All I can add to this, is that in the past few weeks, Grok has been generating really stupid mistakes on basic questions, for example – identifying the location of a Charlie Kirk vigil video as a “G8 protest”.

“mistake”, lol
Sabine knows what she’s talking about, IMHO. Yes, LLMs are hitting the Wall of Diminishing Returns pretty hard right now. No, they are not “intelligent” and no, they never will be.
And also they suffer from the “garbage in – garbage out” problem because of the DEI-hire idiots who pick the training data for Wokeness, not accuracy. They famously supply drawings of black people and/or females when asked for “draw me a German soldier from 1942.” Because that’s how they’re programmed.
If you’ve got money in tech depending on AI to come through, maybe consider selling now before the bubble bursts. Just my opinion.
precisely.
steeped in digital technology l challenge this ‘intuitiveness’ thing about AI.
aka given the exact same executable code, and the precisely same inputs at the exact same time down to a planck moment, will grok or whatever come up with the highly predictable outcome? if Y where’s the intuition, if N wheres the reliability and predictability?
conclusion AI is just another IT buzzword.
I would add #6. Most (All?) companies teaching the AI LLM have been violating Copyright laws .. so far with impunity as the US gov is ignoring the deliberate theft.
“Sabine knows what she’s talking about, IMHO.”
Except when it comes to climate science; then she’s all in with the consensus nonsense.
And when Residential ratepayers finally wake up to the fact that THEY are funding the energy expansion and use of these automated “brains” … they may finally revolt.
“…when Residential ratepayers finally wake up…”
Dude. They are Normies. They slept through a plague. They will only wake up when the kitchen light doesn’t go on anymore. If then, honestly. All a socialist has to do is pinky-promise to turn the lights back on and they’ll vote for more of the same.
Elbows up!
They can always demand the government provide then with free candles.
It never inflated, for me..
My apprentice uses it to get data and specifications, it is nearly always wrong, compared to official data.
It is basically a web crawler that can parse data faster than you can, which was the whole idea behind computers in the first place, but it is very poor at coming to the correct consensus, humans are still required for that.
yep. and now it occurs to me they will NEVER get it ‘right’ ie pass the turing test.
the hoomahn brain, like waaaaaay to complex to duplicate with countless bits.
0s and 1s. perhaps we ‘pick up on’ the ‘vibe’ around us subconsciously for ‘cues’, how does that work and how to duplicate it with AI? which at the molecular level is 0s and 1s.
Of course it’s automated plagiarism, but putting that aside, AI can collect and comb through the collected wisdom and stupidity of humanity and dump it all at your feet in a second or two — or three minutes, actually, for a deep search.
I use my ‘bots many times a day for repair work I’m doing, searching up materials and ideas, and especially commentary by other people doing similar projects. And, I wasn’t born yesterday so I don’t believe everything it tells me and I’m sure to challenge anything that sounds at all sketchy. Often as not it apologizes and corrects itself. How much do I miss? I don’t know. The glue it recommended the other day didn’t set up nearly as quickly as what it had read online.
Occasionally I engage it in philosophical debate but I find it is extremely wishy washy and ‘brain’washed, It’s more fun than debating a lot of people because it doesn’t get angry. Its obsequiousness gets annoying sometimes however.
I don’t find debating AI any worse than trying to reason with the average person.
In research AI can turn up some pretty obscure things if you insist however it’s necessary to use critical thinking to pick out the gems.
I find that it accelerates my research greatly but I have to be very much aware of its deficiencies and prejudices.
I think we have to keep in mind that we’re not getting the high powered stuff but there is AI that can fly jets better than human pilots can and I hear that nthe next version of Tesla self-driving will eliminate more of the few remaining flaws. I suspect however though at this point in spite of the flak they get that the self driving cars are probably safer drivers than many of the people on the road. We hear about their mistakes but we don’t hear to many many miles put on without incident.
All in all, I would say that consumer AI is a fun toy and can be a useful tool as well.
I’m not really sure what developers expect to get out of this and I’m not sure they know themselves.
There’s gotta be more to ai than just a social media search engine…
The future is in AI powered lawnmowers and forklifts and pallet movers.
Cars and trucks, eventually.
They don’t need to think deep thoughts, just work around minor problems while following a program.
Good point.
I think dummy robots will be doing a lot of stuff.
The Chicoms will push that angle so the few who remain have greater power and less headaches without peasants around to keep fed and enthralled.
As no SW knows what a G8 is, one has to wonder at peoples’ gullibility.
Well Duh!.
Arrogant Incompetence is the real meaning of “A.I”
Machine learning is barely a thing.
Artificial Intelligence has a problem..
We need to define our terms,to avoid these meaningless discussions.
There is no evidence of natural intelligence from us,the creators of “Artificial Intelligence”.
Maybe a computer can pass the “Turing Test” ..in the eyes of idiots.
So the first definition that truly is lacking..What is “Intelligence”?
Pick a subject that you know a fair bit about.
Then ask Grok or another AI about it.
I was quite surprised at how bad it is at finding basic information.
Given the fact that AIs generate their answers from what’s available on the Google controlled internet, they’re just second generation “Garbage in, garbage out.”
