Taxpayers have been billed almost $500 million just to run the Trudeau government’s Canada Dental Care Plan, with most of the money going to administration instead of patients.
Cabinet admitted in a Commons filing that as of March 31, 2025, the program’s overhead costs totaled $472.9 million, including payments to third-party administrators.
Blacklock’s Reporter said the disclosure came only after Conservative MP Dan Mazier (Riding Mountain, Man.) pressed for answers on what the program has actually cost since its inception.

Why didn’t they just fund the provinces to do dental procedures. Every province has an medical administration system in place. Most of the federal money just went to create a bureaucracy. Fillings and extractions should have always been covered under provincial health care as they can have serious and possibly fatal consequences if neglected.
The only fillings taking place are the cash deposits filling bureaucrats bank accounts
My partner and I qualify for dental, with CPP & OAS as income, plus my RIF . Our kids don’t yet, even though they have less income, as singles.

Setting up a new group of insureds under a new plan costs a lot in the first year. Ongoing admin fees will likely move back to the 5% range. I have insurance experience if that matters.
P.S. I’m not defending the government by any means, as I think there’s way too much government in general plus excessive overreach at all levels of government.
