The Left and the Right are Simply Not the Same

The usual suspects on the Left will regurgitate the old talking point that “there are bad people on both sides”. While this is technically correct, what is much more accurate is that the rhetoric by Leftist politicians and media figures has emboldened countless people on the Left to think it is perfectly fine to call for the assassination of many more people. This will only stop when the folks shown here are very publicly arrested and prosecuted. Then, in publicly televised trials, the world needs to hear who these cretins were propagandized by. All named in the media then need to be subpoenaed on Capitol Hill and publicly shamed and belittled. Anything short of this and this insanity will never stop.

  1. The right to free speech is very strong on the US. A successful prosecution would likely hinge on whether these posts could be considered “true threats”, or were not meant to be take seriously. So far as I can tell, prosecutional results in similar cases have been mixed.

The threat against Rowling might result in a successful prosecution if the poster is British, although the chances would be improved if the poster also called Rowling a muppet.

    1. Doesn’t matter. The prosecution can still be made, the charges laid, bail denied, the case dragged out onerously and publicly. The process is the punishment.

Kirk’s assassination is the flashpoint that’s waking up a lot of centrists and conservatives to the fact that we need to start using The Chicago Way until people learn that espousing these attitudes is so far outside the Overton Window it’s on the freaking Moon.

      1. If such prosecutions are unsuccessful, the public would quickly come to view this program as a misuse of the justice system to punish political opponents.

Democrats cheering the death of Kirk is a big win for Republicans. Don’t turn that into a loss.

        1. “…a misuse of the justice system to punish political opponents.”

Gee, didn’t we just go through 4 years of them doing that? The process is the punishment, remember? And you shrink from putting them through it as payback?

Clearly you don’t understand how this works. Payback is essential, not optional. They need to be perp-walked. That’s how they know not to do it next time.

Furthermore, publicly calling for the death of any individual is a crime. Do the crime, do the time.

          1. “Payback is essential, not optional.:

No, payback is not essential. If your opponents make a mistake, let them, and trust the voters to figure it out. If you dabble in politics to get back at people you disagree with, you’re in it for the wrong reasons.

“Furthermore, publicly calling for the death of any individual is a crime.”

In the US, it’s no where near that simple. The jurisprudence is complicated. The courts are very protective of free speech.

  2. I suspect there is a domestic terrorism spin that can be applied in some of these cases.

As to KM’s concern about “misuse of the justice system,” we’ve watched liberal Democrats do exactly that for 5 years.
