The Democrats and the Legacy Media are clearly hoping that Trump will fail in terms of bringing an end to the Ukrainian War. They might reflexively deny this, but that’s precisely what they’ve been saying. Here’s a fascinating discussion on the subject.
Can it end? Yes, but only if Zelensky goes…he is the major obstacle standing in the way of a peace treaty at this point. If he stays, Russia will just continue to advance one village at a time until they have the entire Donbas region under their control. After that, who knows?
Oh, it would end pretty quickly if Pootin went poof.
Jamie
You are not that stupid, the hard liners, who would replace him, would flatin Kyiv in 24 hours.
The power struggle that might well happen in Putin’s wake could cripple Russia’s war effort.
Sure.
NME666 is correct. Even if Putin were gone, no one in Russian politics would ever consider giving back the Donbass or Crimea. They’re part of Russia now and will be for the foreseeable future. Nothing can change that.
And as Fred from BC points out, Ukraine (and NATO) need to make a deal now. If they don’t, they’ll eventually be forced into a deal that will be much worse.
It’s difficult to predict what the succession of Putin will be like.
Maybe an even bigger and hard-nosed tyrant than Putin seizes control, or a moderate seemlessly slides into power, or there’s an extended period where no one is in charge and no critical decisions are made, or even outright civil war.
I’m sure many have an opinion on it, but “not sure” is the best answer right now.
There is no need to “predict” anything about succession. In Russia, if the President is unable to fulfill his duties, the Prime Minister becomes the acting President with limited powers until new elections can be held within three months, according to the Russian constitution. Have you even heard if Mr. Myshustin, the current PM?
Almost every country has peaceful rules of succession.
But given the current state of democracy in Russia — i.e., essentially a tyranny — I would not depend on its seemless functioning in Russia. They have become accustomed to the exercise of raw power.
KM – “essentially a tyranny” well describes political life in N America. The passing whims of the leader are instantly imposed on the country as a whole. If you really followed politics in Russia you would see what a long, laborious process it often is.
Yes, yes. yes. Russia is JUST LIKE North America.
Sorry, not that dumb.
No, no, no. Russia is vastly better than N America in so many ways. Would you like to visit?
“Oh, it would end pretty quickly if Pootin went poof.”
Greater minds than mine have warned that there are even worse people waiting to take over.
Fred
You spelt CIA/MI6/Mossad wrong.
“Fred
You spelt CIA/MI6/Mossad wrong.”
Yes, just trying not to confuse the issue further. I also left out the military-industrial complex (and the billions of dollars in profit they are making) for the same reason. Get rid of Zelensky (the front man) and it all ends.
And if you could get rid of Lindsey Graham as well, that would accelerate the process.
“And if you could get rid of Lindsey Graham as well, that would accelerate the process.”
It absolutely would.
The one bright light here is that the Russian economy is fast going in the toilet: rising inflation and interest rates, slow GDP growth, labor shortages, international sanctions, and their oil industry is getting destroyed. And much of the country’s industrial capacity has been diverted to the war effort, leaving the consumer with a smaller piece of the pie.
I don’t think the welfare of the Russian people has ever been a big priority for Putin, but it will squeeze military production.
Yeah, yeah … and just WAIT till the next Spring/Summer surge. Unh huh … Zelensky is gonna SMASH Pootin’s pretend army and TAKE BACK the Donbas! That war criminal is gonna get smashed … cause the Ukraine economy is soaring! As is the economy in ALL the NATO countries! Hell … they’re so flush with cash that they can import half of the ME and Africa into their nations. Woo hoo! Good times ahead for NATO (and a slumping, de-industrializing Canada).
Here’s an idea! Start sending NATO troops to fight for Ukraine!? Or at least start with repatriating the million+ Ukrainians who fled at the start of the war. THEN we’ll see how tough Pootin is!
Or … we will get to see whose Nuclear Arsenal and targeting systems work best. Because if you can’t NUKE a “War Criminal” … what can you do to him?
None of that has anything to do with my post, but it was fine rant.
Keep trying. The Ukraine economy is being propped up by Euro and US $$€€ … the country is getting decimated by Russia. Russia is WINNING the war. They have little incentive to stop. So go ahead Slava Ukrainian’s!! Fight to your last human death for the CIA and all the illicit operations the US has been running through your country. Thanks for fighting our proxy war to keep the world safe for mutant Queers. It’s just like the Stonewall RIOTS … or something … yeayyyyyy gayyyyssss!
Every mutant keyboardist on Reddit says “you go girls! Smash Putin!”
I didn’t even mention the Ukraine economy. I only mentioned Russia’s.
So keep trying.
Nothing any of you warmongers have said about Russia is true. It’s just anti-Putin, anti-Russia … pro-proxy War against heteronormative Putin. Pro-proxy Warmongering US-Euro NATO saber-rattling.
You should all go to the front and have at it.
Kenji:
You are defending a dictator who has started numerous conflicts, the first two as Prime Minister, the last as President:
o Second Chechen war
o Russo-Georgian war
o Ukraine war, including the annexation of Crimea.
But apparently we’re the war mongerers.
“Started conflicts”? … seriously?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beslan_school_siege
If I am a leader of a country that had children terrorized, held hostage, then SLAUGHTERED in their school … I’d “start” a war too. I’d exact total disproportionate revenge.
Just for the record, which war are you blaming on the Beslan school siege? The Second Chechen war began five years before the siege. That leaves the Russo-Georgian war, which was about Georgia trying to break free from Russian domination.
That sounds like war mongering to me.
“The one bright light here is that the Russian economy is fast going in the toilet:”
You sound just like the people who engineered this war.
“You sound just like the people who engineered this war.”
I think he works for them, honestly.
There do seem to be a lot of “people” eager to fight Russia to the last Ukrainian. Stunted and shriveled examples of Humanity I must say.
I am by no means an expert on any of this, but if I were trying to end this war I’d identify every single dude making money off it, and have a quiet word with them. Maybe convince them that profiting from the death of innocents is not a good business to be in, know what I mean?
I must say that of all the world leaders, #OrangeManBad seems to be the one trying to follow this path.
You mean like this guy?

Or this?

You could almost slip Canada in, in place of Russia and Crocked Carney managed a win.
Otherwise don’t sell the stupid of voters short.
I admire your optimism. But as usual, I think there’s been an incredible amount of misinformation/disinformation put out by all sides. In this situation, discerning what is true and what is BS may not be possible. I believe Putin & the Russian economy are more resilient than we’ve all been lead to believe.
Ever consider visiting Russia? You will have a great time and every preconception in your mind about the country will be blown away.
I heard the people are great.
But they have difficulty with the concept of “liberal democracy.”
There is a lot more diversity of opinion and democracy in the Russian Duma than there is in the Canadian Parliament. Follow the Duma for a while and then tell me if you disagree.
Well… we started it. I can imagine what it looked like, Nuland, handing out cookies.
The whole thing is as farcical as it is tragic. It is time to find all the Pinky & The Brain crew and remove them in a manner consistent with Nuremberg.
That being said the series attached here shows that we have a pretty good idea where the cultural divide within the Ukrain is.
https://www.kitklarenberg.com/p/declassified-cias-covert-ukraine
It’s all we need to give them, and, at the same time, it is what we should give them. The Ukrainians can have Hunter and Victoria and Samantha. They will look good in the public square.
It’s a proxy war against that horrible, terrible, heteronormative Putin. That absolute TOOL, Jake Sullivan engineered this war … doing the bidding of the CIA. I’ve never been so ashamed of my country since Afghan abandonment. Oh wait. That was the Biden autopen too …
“It’s a proxy war against that horrible, terrible, heteronormative Putin. ”
Absolutely, right from the start. They barely even tried to hide their real motivations.
Ukraine still has a few million women, children and seniors left to put on the front lines, to be funnelled into the meat grinder.
After all, that little Nazi Z still has a few more Billion to extort out of the west before escaping to Switzerland.
Meanwhile, the Argue Vermin loves sending millions of Ukes to their deaths. Perverse old bastard.
It can’t end yet.
We still have some living Ukrainians.
And WAR is such a wonderful distraction, for use when our peons see the theft as too damn high.
Got to admit, the “Elbows Up!,Chicken Dance” crowd are so confused..
Orange man bad!.
Putin Evil! Soviet Thug..
Ukraine Good..
Sorry it is too incoherent..
Next the official line will shift from “Victorious Ukrainian Army advances Westward” to..
“Corrupt Ukrainian Government to blame for provoking Russia”.
