@cbcwatcher – Anand is asked about getting to NATO targets, she rambles for 3 minutes and then says “it would be imprudent for me to opine on Canada’s position prior to the conversation that the leaders of the NATO countries are going to have over the next two days.”
It’s imprudent for Anand to opine about anything. This is true for most, if not all, of the government ministers!
She’s waiting for the PMO to tell her what to say.
“I’m waiting for the more “muscular” members of NATO push back on that mean, warmongering, bad Orangemanbad”.
Inotherwords … Canada being Canada. A pipsqueak nation of squishy Islamo-sympathizers.
Kenji
There’s only one nation capable of invading Canada. No amount of Canadian military spending could prevent that, unless we spent it on nukes. If we developed nukes, the US would go apoplectic.
Currently we’re copying what the US did in WW1 and WW2; staying out of it until directly attacked.
The US decided it wanted to play global policeman. What has that achieved?
When the US was attacked on 9 11, Canada participated in the U.S. war in Afghanistan. What did that get us? A bunch of dead soldiers.
The last war the US really tried to win, was WW2. Since that time the US has engaged in endless conflicts with the aim of not losing.
Now Trump wants 5% military spending. Why? To feed the US military-industrial complex?
Who is actually going to invade the US? The US citizenry has more guns and ammo than any country on earth. No one is capable of militarily invading the US.
What!? You don’t understand the existential threat Putin poses to the LGBTQueer world order!? You wouldn’t want to live in a world where rainbow flags were banned!? You don’t want to speak Chinese!? (Well … perhaps most of Chinada does?).
Well … we haven’t had another 9-11 … since we occupied Afghanistan for a while … and we only lost another 13 soldiers and $50B in military hardware … and we were warned that not even the fearsome Russian army could defeat the Taliban … but, but, but … Bush, Obama, Biden/Obama weren’t “fighting” a war against the Taliban … they were “winning the hearts and the minds of the Muslim street”. Well, that didn’t go so well … so Biden/Obama just left.
The “Muslim street” wants their women uneducated, and breeding more terrorists who are dedicated to killing all us infidels. So, we now import those people due to our white guilt and Christian weakness into our own countries. We are building the Trojan Horse within the walls of our own countries. And we are paying those enemies of our culture to outbreed and conquer us. They will all come spilling out of that Trojan Horse within the next decade.
So … we need a giant ponderous bureaucratic Soviet Union of Capitalist nations with the fearsome power to bomb the shit out of “bad people” like Yugoslavians … Serbs … and Libyans. So $$$ pay up all you peaceniks in Canada … or we’ll deport all of Dearborn, MI across your border!
The US lost a lot more than 13 soldiers in Afghanistan.
“There’s only one nation capable of invading Canada.”
Geez, I don’t know about that. If faces and dialects are any indication, I’d say we’ve already been pretty well crushed by waves of invasions from multiple sources.
The barbarians never had to wait at any gates.
LibCons removed the gates and built a human conveyor belt.
And then eliminated any semblance of quality control.
Child soldiers, vest clackers, criminals, deviants, mental defectives, worthless ancients, racists – all are rubber-stamped Canadian Canadians.
More defence spending wouldn’t stop Liberal immigration policies.
Bait and switch.
TORONTO, June 9 (Reuters) – Canada, under pressure to spend more on its military, vowed on Monday to boost funding for the armed forces and hit NATO’s 2% military spending target this fiscal year, five years earlier than promised.

Carney has no intention of doing this. In fact, the historical evaluation shows Canada promising to do this, and then not spending the money. Or, claiming to appropriate the funds and then pulling back and not following through. It’s why the Australian missile early detection system was purchased just this year with funds designated nearly a decade ago.
Why would you ask the flea about what the dog should do?
That’ll have most Canadians scratching their heads.

Not mentioned earlier… Coast guard budget and control potentially moving to DND. Coast Guard to be considered NATO assets, able to (not) defend themselves or (not) provide surveillance since they don’t have Sonar, Air/Surface Search, IFF or weapons (aka Fire Control) radars. Nor do they have data link capabilities, although that could be the most easily added.
A bait-and-switch methodology to artificially increase military spending.
Kanada will make history with the first unionised military branch. Soon on deck conversations will sound like the following.
Captain: “Crewpersons! Listen up. The orders issued state that we are to intercept a human smuggling operation off the coast at 0245 hours.”
Response: “Not happening. Our CBA specifically prohibits starting any earlier than 0830 hours!”
(Okay, not original. I saw something similar in a Mad Magazine about unionising the US Army.)
I was perusing material on the Canadian Coast Guard rather recently. It was discussing the limitations they have up in the Northwest Passage (which will become a hotbed of activity as various nations attempt to get their foot in the door on Arctic resources ….IOW, China).
Besides their lack of updated equipment and their presence in the region on a seasonal basis rather than year round, the Federal govt. has negotiated treaties with Inuit not to transgress certain areas up there because it “would disturb the environment.”
Canada recently did a joint exercise with the US Coast Guard, and my understanding is the US was not impressed with capabilities.
Anand turned DND into a feminist social program. She can’t say what Canada’s position is? A minister either has no idea what Canada’s position is or won’t even share it with the media?
After the kerfuffle over Israel and Iran continuing to attack each other when their “12 Day War” ended, the actual leader of NATO seemed not very happy, he’s quoted in one of the posts below this…
I wouldn’t be telling him I was going to spend 3% and lying to him by only spending 1.5%
No, I don’t care how they arrive at that expenditure, any of the countries could start by re-assessing what they’re currently wasting $ billions on and gauge the results they’ve promised and then failed to deliver.
As for our tier 2 PM, probably best to get anything he says in writing first, he seems to speak like a used EV car salesman
The 20% raise for Canada’s military is being nuanced into something else.
