  1. Have the 1,741 people been notified that their personal information has been breached? I missed any mention of that in the article. If not … why not?

    1. about 2/3 down in the article:

“However, once aware of the breach, the RCMP’s notification to affected individuals and the steps taken to manage the risk of further harm to them were “generally appropriate in the circumstance,” the report says.”

It is however, a federal gov’t agency, the “Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada” which is saying this was appropriate action.

      1. Yes … but what does that gobbledygook actually mean!? I can’t make anything out of it.

        1. In the case of the Kanadian government, I would say a letter was mailed. It probably included “if more information is needed, here is a webpage that will put you into an endless loop or a phone number with many options to choose from that will get you nowhere.”

  2. There is zero reason for the RCMP to be using removable USB devices for any purpose, period. This was an inside job and it’s been covered up.

    1. ^^^ indeed ^^^

Let me guess … they needed the portable data during their COVID “work from home” era … which is still ongoing for government workers, eh?

  3. That’s kind of strange. About 6 years ago (I’m sure it was pre-Covid) at Transport Canada we had to use IronKey encryption if we were saving to a USB to take work home. This was for aircraft maintenance scheduling and modifications so there was no personal info. Why the RCMP would have less data security, I can’t imagine.

    1. Because cops are lazy, and many of them have trouble computering?

I mean, we’re talking about guys who could potentially get shot at but they -never- practice at the range. Once a year for mandatory qualification, and that’s it. 90% of cops can’t hit a barn from the inside.

Ask a cop, they’ll tell you. They think it’s funny.

  4. Freedom Convoy 2022 January 22 – February 23
Feb. 14 invocation of the Emergencies Act

“RCMP told the watchdog about the breach in March 2022”
but only becomes “news” 3+ years later.

“RCMP failed to report… RCMP failed to take appropriate measures… recommended the RCMP adopt strict security measures…”

“Mounties did not commit to implementing strict security measures”

    To paraphrase Tim Walz,
Arse EMP are Gazpacho on brokeback.

  5. Other than avoiding stitches, this is a very good reason never to be a CI for the grid-road cops.

  6. I’m two-thirds of the way through Paul Poaanco’s book “22 Murders”, a book about the Nova Scotia mass murders. The RCMP need big time reform.
