Today Gord Magill interviews Humboldt Saskatchewan trucker and Canadian trucking legend, Kim Wylie. Kim became known for this viral video he made after the Humboldt tragedy.
Voice Of GO(r)D is honored to bring you Mr Kim Wylie, a veteran trucker from Humboldt, Saskatchewan (yes, that Humboldt) who, like myself, is doing what he can to raise alarm bells about the state of the industry, and offer policy solutions to improve life for all of us out on the road. Working with friend and former guest of the show, Trent Lalonde, Kim is highlighting issues with training and licensure of truckers, and despite difficulty in getting policy makers in Saskatchewan to listen, seem to be making headway next door in Alberta, where discussions of recognizing truckers with trade certification are happening in earnest.

I think it’s a terrific idea to have the truck driving trade brought into the apprenticeship trade group.
Make it a mandatory trade like the pipe fitting trades, electricians and hairdressers, the others are regulated by their trade groups but anyone can sign up and say they’re a first year whatever and never be compelled to go to school, something they’ll kick you out of the trades for if you’re working for years without going to school.

I would have no problem living in that.
