Enbridge: Securing the affordable, reliable energy we need takes an all-of-the-above approach
20 Replies to “Reliable energy?”
That’s a good slogan. And make no mistake, we are in the battle of sloganeering with the anti-civilization nihilist Left. The best slogan WINS … because the average citizen can’t be bothered by the detail and in-depth information.
“You can’t run a full-time economy” that’s the point…
Wind and solar electricity producers should have to provide full time power. These sources nicely combine with hydro. Only companies with reliable backup should be allowed to sell wind or solar power.
Which makes wind and solar horribly expensive. I always laugh when some clown posts some nonsense about how cheap wind and solar are compared to “fossil fuels” but yet everywhere they put that crap in, power rates go through the roof.
Inelastic demand for power with reduced supply due to unreliable wind and solar means rates go up. It’s an unbreakable law of economics that the Left keeps insisting it can do anyway. Results are always the same.
C’mon, you can’t make leftists understand the basic relationship between supply and demand. Trying to explain elasticity to them would make their heads actually explode.
l took economic courses waaaay back when, switched majors to computer science but remembered some key concepts applicable to myself, the notion that once funds are spent they are gone forever. replaced by *other* cash with its very brief lifespan.
another was like you cite *inelasticity* of demand.
supply halves, prices double? nu huh. prices skyrocket 10 times because consumers may need only a ‘little bit’ of ‘X’ but by gawd really need it bad and will sacrifice any other spending to get ‘it’.
my impression is sadly many politicians, higher concetration the further left, havent got even the fundamentals down pat. why in gawds name is it not mandatory for ANY new MP if the have no post secondary economics and no background in finance the MUST attend presentations by economists, concentrating on fundamentals, a 6 month series, scheduled outside time in the House, located close to parliament hill etc.
instead we get the debt doubled overnight.
It does not combine nicely with hydro. Varying water flows through generator turbines in the dams to balance varying wind turbine outputs results in rapidly varying river levels that disrupt fish and their spawning beds and hatching of the fry. It increases riverbank erosion. There is no upside here.
its either nukes topping things up or we go back to living in unheated cabins.
except they will be repurposed traditional homes. oddly enough many of them lack a furnac or water heater of any type having been deemed forever superfluous and sold for scrap.
the former furnace room now 1 more rooming house tenant.
but you better sign up for the private operators running the enforcement of evictions.
you let them know you got a problem child. then at some point they break down your door, attack the problem child in some faux robbery or mistaken identity thing. putting them in the hospital and freeing up the space.
etc.
anyone out there rented rooms in a city orfcops claiming ‘we dont do evictions’ knows what lm talking about.
in my town the rent reciept even trumps the criminal code under the sobriquet “occupancy rights”
and tenants are “entitled” to have guests who
-do drugs
-steal
-threaten my dogs
-threaten me
again, breach the criminal code but “entitled”

Eco-loonie fear mongering. Properly designed hydro-electric installations do no such thing, and even if they did the downsides to wind and solar are ten times worse for the environment.
No mention of nuclear. Hence it’s cowardly BS propaganda from Enbridge. They are afraid of antinuke pickets around their offices.

“Very sensible. Industry cannot take a lead here. That’s the responsibility of government. ”
Simply put.. We cant afford expensive energy everywhere.. Stop pretending we can :).. What’s the point of wind and solar if we have to run a full fledged backup systems to cover the obvious shortcomings.. Magic batteries will never hold the roof up..
Balance the politics and the government funded jobs with the regions ability to pay for it all.. Global warming is a far off slow moving concern, maybe.. That smells suspiciously of BS.. That’s become a business plan, for the sake of the business plan.. A molehill problem measured with a mountain of mitigation..
Why must all things get contaminated with government money?.. Why must we care more for the industry than the people they serve?.. Everything is just so big and politically dirty.. Enough to turn elections.. Its depressing..
Why must all things get contaminated with government money…..easy….it’s called fascism.

Where was Greg a few years ago? Is this the Trump effect allowing even corporate cowards speak up.
“Zero GHG emissions by 2050”? Someone’s had a good slurp of the Anthropogenic Climate Change Kool Aid.
Cut a cheque to the Toronto District School Board of all people for almost half a million and for Earth Day of all things. How nice.
Meanwhile the $18,000,000/year CEO blows smoke up the asses of the Joe Lunchbuckets of the world. Not that I begrudge a man for how much he gets paid but I’d bet there are more than just a few who aren’t at all like me.
And why I don’t think it’s a sin to not root for anyone in particular with respect to Enbridge Energy v. Whitmer.
I’ll be fine…my newly arrived GTA neighbour two doors down, not so much.
Net-zero coal. Get on it.
Exactly right.
I dumped all my Enbridge stock about 6 months ago when they started construction on a billion dollar solar farm on the south side of town. That is the single most expensive form of power generation, and although I know they will be sucking the government subsidy tit, I won’t invest in a company that is such a poor steward of corporate funds.
