Dan Knight: Julien Newman is a former NDP staffer. He worked alongside Jack Layton. He knows how the party used to function — when it still stood for something — and he’s not afraid to say what we all know to be true: the NDP is collapsing, and it’s collapsing fast.
Nobody knows why.
Québec, Canada 🇨🇦 Listen for yourself: An NDP canvasser is caught on video saying, "I totally understand why the Arabs would want Israel to disappear", and blames Israel for "creat[ing] chaos in the region."
Is this the official platform of @NDP candidate Pascale Matecki, who… pic.twitter.com/K2FNewNtaZ

“Arab’s tried to create a Pan- Arab state”
Does he equate the Ayatollah Khomeini’s Islamic revolution just “Arab’s trying to create a Pan Arab state”?
Ayatollah Khomeini was Iranian, and Iranians aren’t Arabs.
Iranians are Persians to be exact.
I know.
If you’re disagreeing, please answer.
What other event, other than the Islamic revolution is he describing when he said “Arabs tried to make a pan-arab state”
I’m neither pro- nor -anti Israel. But perhaps he is referring to several movements around pan-Arabism like the Arab League alliance or Ba’athism.
Regardless, I would simply like our tax dollars to stop being spent on both Muslims/Jews in the middle east.
Perhaps he is referring to the United Arab Republic, which was a short-lived union of Egypt and Syria. Long time ago: 1958-1961.
Never trust any man, er, ‘male-identified person’ named Pascale!
Well, that may be the case with the Dips, but, it’s not like the Lieberals are besties with Israel either. They’ve been quite vocal and demonstrative with their support of the terrorists/Gaza.
No, the Dips are fading because of 2 reasons.
The coalition. Policies are intermingled as to be the same.
Captain Carney of the Mounted.
The fools are fooled!
The Dips are disintegrating not because their mindless supporters are smartening up, rather it’s because the party has become so stupid and pointless that even their dull-witted voters noticed and have had enough.
The NDP have become an arm of the liberal party … nothing more.
“The NDP have become an arm of the liberal party … nothing more.”
My first thought when I read that was it should say ‘The NDP have become THE RADICAL arm of the liberal party … nothing more.’
But on closer thought concerning the last 9 years, I think it’s the Liberals were the radical arm of the NDP!
Good, well deserved. I’m seeing a lot of panic with improved poll numbers for Carney. I put it to two things, he’s not Justin and NDP votes are flocking to him. Nothing is a lock but the political left is bleeding out, they are not gaining anywhere. Trump turning down the rhetoric is a slow tire leak for them.
We don’t HATE the Joos … so long as they are scattered to the winds. But we HATE Israel! We want to push the Joos, err Israel into the sea. But we’re not Neo-Natzi anti-semites … noooo … Allah says the Joos are pigs that eat noble, brave, loving, Muslims … but we keep our pigs safe in their pens.
Free, Free, Palestine … whatever make believe land that is …
I believe it used to be called Judea…
It is part of a land that used to be known as Syria.
It is also a place that we’ve been taught relatively recently was the historical location of the events of a collection of books known as “the Bible”.
Though this inhospitable desert doesn’t remotely fit the geography of the land described in the various books today lumped into what we’re taught to call the “Old Testament”, and the only place names and nations that occur in those books were recently given those names.
The “New Testament” books, written in a different language centuries after the fact, and corroborated by characters in books and artifacts only recently found (under questionable circumstances) lend about the only corroboration to millions of people and animals once somehow living in this barren wasteland with virtually no drinkable water.
We’re also taught that a group of unrelated people groups collectively known as “Jews” are supposed to somehow be related to one of 12 tribes of the children of a man named Jacob or Israel. Despite neither their written or spoken language even being related to the language of the various “Old Testament” books, which they coin “Paleo-Hebrew”.
The same Jews who overwhelmingly choose to live anywhere other than Israel when given a choice. Most of them only staying due to a lack of options and massive subsidies, largely from western nations.
Fck the NDP and all their infantile voters.
The fact that they’re too stupid and ignorant to vote for the Cons shows you they hate Canada as much as Liberals.
“I will be Jack Layton resurrected”
You heading down to Dundas Street, Dan?
“Nobody knows why.”
We all know why. Canada has three socialist parties. There’s only room for one or at most two. So the weakest of them, the one that stands for nothing, is collapsing. Its voter base is shrinking, its institutional contribors and funders have largely disappeared. It has nothing that separates it from the Libs or Greens.
He saw the mezuzah.
2/3rds of Canadians are leftists.. That bounce around between the liberals and the NDP.. The other 1/3rd pay the bills.. If .. The big if.. The conservatives ever win they have to run as do nothing liberals.. U know its true..
See skin tag Doug Ford to drive that point home..
Is it because the leader is the wrong kind of Sikh, driving away hindus, union members, and other Sikhs? Is it because he’s an obvious and flamboyant champagne socialist, who never mastered the skill of Layton in hiding it? Is it because they spent way too much time propping up Trudeau, so that there isn’t any sort of distance between the 2 parties?
Or is it because had the “leader” got us into an election in the late fall, he would have likely been re-elected with a bigger party share in the house, but instead he selfishly hung on to get his pension, no matter the cost to the party?
National socialists haven’t changed much over the past century…
Such historical literacy is a wonder to behold.
I, too, “totally understand why the Arabs would want Israel to disappear.” And understanding that is one of the reasons I’m cheering for Israel.
I’m optimistic the NDP will follow the path of the Alberta Liberal Party:
… founded in 1905
… formed governments after elections of 1905, 1909, 1913, 1917,
after which Albertans got wise:
… did not form governments after elections of 1926, 1930, 1935, 1940, 1944, 1948, 1952, 1955, 1959, 1963, 1967, 1971, 1975, 1982, 1986, 1993, 1997, 2001, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2015, 2019, 2023, (ie, never again)
2012 election was notable as they dropped from 8 seats in the legislature to 5.
2015 election was notable as they dropped from 5 seats to 1.
2019 election was notable as they dropped from 1 seat to 0, where they stand to this day.
2022 was notable when no Earthling could be found to accept nomination for party leadership so they appointed some loser.
2023 election was notable as they (inconceivably) underperformed yet again, 4800 of 1.7 million votes.
2025 is notable because they can’t take a hint.
