Balls In Your Court Governor Carney

Donald J. TrumpIf the European Union works with Canada in order to do economic harm to the USA, large scale Tariffs, far larger than currently planned, will be placed on them both in order to protect the best friend that each of those two countries has ever had!

Globe and Mail- Trump threatens Canada and EU with larger tariffs if they work together against U.S.

Toronto Star- Canada will defend against Trump’s latest threat to punish co-operation with the EU, finance minister says

  1. Yup, that’s what I thought. A new CETA is likely in the works which explains Canada and the EU matching up their carbon regulations the other week. One of the major hurdles previously was that CETA took a decade to pass due to non-mirrored regulations.

It looks like the White House anticipated this “pile on the rabbit” strategy and is firing a warning shot. I think the EU is suicidal. It would not surprise me to see them (and Canada) turn to China for their oil refinery needs to cut out the US. That would be a mistake of voluminous proportions.

  2. Let us do what we need to do to turn our economy around.

We need to do that as opposed to beat our chest, make rude gestures and call names. It is time for our leaders to grow up and do what is right for our country as opposed to saying things that anger the belligerent. Wrestling the pig only gets you both dirty while making the pig happy.

  3. Any trade initiative with the EU will instantly founder on the supply mismanagement issue. The Quebec dairy lobby will see to that

  4. Canada has 100% control over this tariff issue. All Canada needs to do is drop their outrageous obnoxious world leading tariffs it has applied to the US for generations. Albeit very hard to do in a nation with an artificial manufacturing sector.

  5. Don’t worry. Trump will blink. Or such at least will be the reliable report of the usual subjects, to who Trump blinks like a prisoner of war in a bad North Korean propaganda clip.

    1. The American economy is about to go to shit. If input costs rise by 25% they are going to export nothing. They are going to eliminate imports and give up exports while raising prices 25%. Manufacturing moved out of the US because costs in the US were too high to compete. How is raising prices going to help anything? The last time they did this the Great Depression followed. Before this is over Republican senators and congressmen are going to be begging the Democrats to impeach Trump.

      1. I agree with you. The problem is that there’s no one still living who remembers the disaster of the Smoot-Hawley Act of 1930.

“How is raising prices going to help anything? ”

Again, I agree entirely. The Trump administration is ignorant of the fact that governments do not pay tarifs, only the end consumer pays. A tariff functions the same way a sales tax does: on the consumer only. The US is about to get a hard lesson in why FDR’s economic policies in the 1930s were such a fiasco. Trump seems to want to replicate them.

        1. scarp and cghCOLON
2 fools who can’t figure out the dynamic of that war over there, are proving they are stump stupid as to the trade war on this side of the pond.

        2. It’s fun reading screeds from people totally ignorant about basic economics. You know – liberals.

      2. Input costs won’t rise by 25%. Canadian imports represent a total of 2% of the US GDP. 25% of 2% is 0.5%. So maybe input costs rise by 0.5%. More likely, Canadian companies will cut prices as much as possible to offset the tariff hit and keep their product selling. The only thing worse than low margin is no margin.

        1. At 60 or 70 cents in the US dollar.
          So 0.5 x 0.7 best case.
Wonder how that works out at 40 cents US to our dollar?
A cost increase, for the American purchaser of 0.2 to 0.35..%
Oh boy, that is going to get their attention.

        2. Trump is declaring a trade war with the entire world (except russia maybe), so you can expect prices to rise pretty much in everything. Autarchy with inflation, shocking, who would have thought.

      3. Maybe a global depression was coming anyway. Better to be at the top of that heap than somewhere in the midst of it.

  6. As far as the Canadian leadership is concerned, anything that happens is a great pretext to stick it to the Canadian people harder and faster, and it doesn’t matter which stuffed shirt is in office.
While everybody was busy quoting Orwell, Machiavelli was completely ignored.

  7. But there is no business case for Europe. Why FAwithfailures? Like it or not, we are economically linked with the US, something McCarnage should point out, US businesses make lots of money in Canada.

  8. I fully expect Marx Carney to want to have the next word on this, that as an Oxford PhD he’ll never accept an American telling him how things are going to be. For Carney to state that Canada will retaliate with higher tariffs on this or that, and for Trump to hike the auto tariffs to 100%
Which will push Ontario and Quebec over the edge, and hopefully emboldening the west to push forward on the separation talk which is gaining by the day.

Trump doesn’t need to blink until the election is finished and the dust starts to settle. The players jockeying for placements are in the stretch and both sides talking a good game.

    1. In short, we see history keep repeating itself, with each new Trump opponent making the same classic mistake. They really don’t learn.
      1. They take Trump literally, but not seriously. In actuality, the opposite is true.
      2. The correlation, they completely underestimate him, assuming “Trump is STUPID, DUH!”

Oppose him at your peril. This isn’t 2017. Want to make a deal, the door is open. He’s proved that. Want to double cross him?
      Woe Unto You.

This will turn out very badly for this country in the short run, which may be the next 4 years. But blame an arrogant and out of touch Liberal regime, and their stupid silly conceited out of touch voters. I’m on Trump’s side, crushing Laurentien Canada is AOK with me. Dairy Cartel, auto industry, politically and Quebec, they are all enemies of the west.
Covid and the Convoy set my direction for the rest of my life, and that’s not aligned with this abomination of a dominion in its current form!

      MAGA TRUMP!

      1. Totally agree! I’m in Ontario. This election should be about the Liberal’s horrible 9 year track record!

      2. As I’ve stated before, arrogance is its own form of stupidity, likely the worst if we’re being honest.
And these people are very, very stupid.

    2. “…and hopefully emboldening the west to push forward on the separation talk which is gaining by the day…”

Yawn it has been gaining and gaining and gaining, every election is had been gaining, lockdowns it has been gaining, crackdown on Freedom Convoy it has been gaining and? Meanwhile Potato has settled enough of his imports in Redmonton and Nenshittown that it will not happen.

Besides, Trump in his delusions is talking about annexing all of Bananada and not letting you have your own state.

    1. Yes, looks like 2/3 to 3/4 of the country is in a Covid like hypnosis again. That includes plenty of so-called conservatives as well.

It’s RETARDED and childish, the level of infantile behaviour is incomprehensible. That includes the lack of inquisitiveness in the same people to DO THEIR DETAILED RESEARCH. That doesn’t mean seeing what CBC or CNN said, that means what did Trump actually say and why. The LONG version, not the 10 second sound bite.

Canadians are lazy and let the corrupt MSM and their socialist politicians decide for them.

      SHEEP. BAA BAA BAA BAA.

On another note, Greetings from Waikiki! No Derangement Here! Just a lot of walking and breathing corpses (the locals, Oh brother!)

      1. Congrats on your HI vacation, Mahalo Dan!
Everytime I go to Waikiki I feel like the character, Aqualung …

        Sitting on a park bench
Eyeing little girls with bad intent

        Drying in the cold sun
Watching as the frilly panties run
        Hey, Aqualung

Babes in Bikinis … warming an old man’s heart … and bulging his eyes. Hey! Eyes. What did you think was bulging?

Tell your wife to have an extra Mai Tai for me 🙂

    2. It’s a stupid slogan designed by the propagandists of the Liberal Party to try and inspire Canadians into uniting in opposition against Trump. It’s pathetic. International politics is not a hockey game, and Canada isn’t in the same league economically as the US. If you want to stick with the hockey analogy, Canada is in the Tyke league and the US is in the NHL.

  9. Trump doesn’t really want to obtain any part of Canada but he does want it to be a good neighbour that deals in good faith, mends its fence, and keeps the malcontents and malefactors out of our back yard and not allow them to use Canada as a safe haven.
If it takes threats and tariffs to do what he wants then he offers that or the option of just joining the US
Which considering the costs is the easiest fastest way to get the job done.

    Anyone else ever considered that?

  10. Stupid Americans.

    Wrong freaking border!

    AZ Intel @AZ_Intel_ 1h
The Trump administration has directed two intelligence agencies to train their satellite surveillance capabilities on the U.S.-Mexico border region as part of a sweeping crackdown on illegal immigration and drug cartels.

  11. There are no policy errors by Canadas political leaders. Libs want to destroy the country (and will escalate this to do so) and conservatives have tried to outdo Libs on anti Trump rhetoric rather than let the Libs own it.

A quick “solution” that will “help” is massive money printing, and further devaluation of the Canadian peso, by 25% – to around 52 cents, to “help” canadian industry be more competetive. And the destruction of a lifetime of savings will ensue.

You will have nothing and like it.

  12. Trumpy should welcome tariffs on American exports.

If American firms cannot export due to high tariffs, then those formerly exported goods will be available for Americans to buy.

    1. What makes you think that he doesn’t? Weaning the American consumer off of foreign goods could have quite a few upsides for years to come.

  13. At par trade with the USA means the end of Canada. We always knew that and so did they. Rumor is Turd even told Trump that. If Trump announces an end to all tariffs and all restrictions on Canadian immigration EU style, Canada is done.

  14. Marx Carnage thinks that now would be an appropriate time for him to talk to Trump. OK but you got one small problem Marx. Trump won’t take your phone call.

    1. If you were born that feeble-minded, you would have died in infancy from sheer confusion, ergo you must have worked at being that much of an idiot.

      1. It is almost weekend, I bet you can’t wait to get hammered, maybe start earlier this time.

  15. Trump continues his efforts to get Carnage elected. Trumpets, Maxipads and morons (but I repeat myself, twice) are clapping like trained seals.

Remember Trumpets, if you don’t understand something that he does, it surely means that what Trump does is what you think he should be doing. Always.

  16. You know what C , you worry about too many countries.
McGuinty and Wynne got elected in Ontario for how many years? And Trudeau ?
Trump didn’t have anything to do with that, and really if Canadians can be that easily swayed by Trump being Trump well the problem isn’t with him, it’s us.
Yeah it’s shit-y , but it’s the reason I could never see eye to eye with you about Russia, even though thirty years ago I could have.
    This country has bigger problems.
And I’m sure not going to bit– about Trump going to town, because that’s what this country needs, along with
something on paper that brings government , and the countries institutions to heel.
Yeah it’s a pipe dream, and a waste anyways in these shallow modern times.
But you and I know we aren’t going to exist much longer with these four year little breaks with Red Tories repainting the walls, again.

    1. Too many things at the same time to address them all.

We had it in the bag until Trump started his pointless attacks at Potato thus mobilizing the anti-American boomer brigade who have been conditioned by decades of watching CBC to hate America. And it wasn’t deep strategy on Trump’s part, not some 5D chess, it was reckless gum flapping. Look at the timeline of Trump’s outbursts and at the changes in the pools next few days. (Don’t look at all Pollsters at the same time. Take any popular pollster one at a time). The correlation is very visible. It does not matter if the polls are wrong on point estimates, the trends rarely lie. So yes, what Trump is doing in unforgivable.

The reason I support Pierre is because he is not only our last chance but he is the best Conservative leader in decades, in living memory. Losing this chance would be a tragedy that would doom this country. If Pierre loses Ford will be the next Conservative leader. And then we’re royally f@#$ed. If we had another Dairy Queen Sheer or Sample O’Stool I would see it differently. I would still reluctantly support them to get rid of Libranos, but it would not be a comparable tragedy if they lost. Pierre is different, he is much more valuable. Canadian conservatism lives or dies with this election.

As for too many countries. My loyalty is to Occident.
