    1. Exactly what I thought. And if it is now zero why didn’t gas prices drop by ,17 cents per liter? In addition to the GST not disappearing steps to reduce spending and increase taxes were taken in spite of campaigning against them.

        1. Meaning, likely right in the middle of the election campaign, so all the Liberal candidates get to pose at the gas pumps with the newly lower price and proclaim how their actions are saving money for Canadians at a critical time, blah blah blah.

          The hypocrisy would be utterly shameless if the Liberals possessed any shame, and if Canadians gave even the tiniest crap about Liberal hypocrisy.

New Leger poll published by the National Post has the Liberals in the outright lead now (42%-39%), with the NDP vote having completely collapsed (9%) as all of those socialists have run back home to big Daddy Liberal. Liberals showing leads everywhere other than the Prairies & Alberta, but even then they’re showing 40% in the Prairies. 40%!!! Liberals are showing leads on almost every major “who do you think would better handle issue ” question too.

    This is really going to happen, isn’t it. This country is really going to show itself to be so virulently anti-Conservative and anti-American that it will vote to enable Liberal hegemony forever. Seriously; the Liberals will have found the ultimate path to staying in power indefinitely. Switch out their leader just as his popularity bottoms out, pull a 180 on their most unpopular policy or two, find something to stir up anti-Americanism (they can always invent something) and voila! Canadian sheep come back to their shepherd.

    I’ve had a sense for 20+ years that typical Canadian sheep only vote Conservative when the stench of omnipresent Liberal corruption simply grows too foul to bear, but it seems it’s grown to be worse than that. The sheep now do not want to have to vote Conservative at all. Especially not Conservatives who act, well, conservative. Conservatives are only permitted to be a baby step to the right of the Liberals, if even that, or else they’re “too extreme”, “too right wing”, blah blah blah. No policy changes permitted. No cultural changes permitted. The Liberals can ratchet the country to the left at will, but the Conservatives aren’t permitted to undo any of it, so any talk of it scares the sheep back to the shepherd. The Conservatives are only allowed to be caretakers while the Liberals get their act back together, then Conservatives go out, Liberals go back in. Except now, in the eyes of the sheep, the Liberals have gotten their act together without the pesky need to have a Conservative interlude.

    Blow this rotten country apart. It’ll never save itself.

      That’s a perfectly on-point summary of the real reasons that Canada will never change. Not until our economy *completely collapses*…and maybe not even then if the people are still too dumb to make the connection.

      1. I suspect we’re on an Argentinean glide path, and I don’t mean under Milei. I mean the decades under the Perons and Kirchners and their ilk. A dysfunctional state concerned with grifting and its own power above all other concerns, where nothing really works that well, and the people end up becoming too concerned with just keeping their heads above water to be able to rally themselves to do much of anything about it.

        1. l suspect this is the case very much; the poorer we get the less inclined to ‘risk’ financial reforms meaning EI reforms, cutting subsidies to the line of work you are it. the ‘solution’ is to keep the ones in power who have precipitated the dilemma.
