  4. Unfortunately, this is true only in the United States. Canada is doubling down on diversity. I’ve been looking very closely at who’s hiring, and it’s overwhelmingly government, FinTech, and NGO’s, with mission statements like “we reduce energy poverty, increase decarbonization and improve access to technology in underserved and racialized communities”, or “Improving the visibility and security of personhood for the trans community and those at risk in the 2SLGBTQQIA++ community”, or “Addressing systemic colonialism and lack of opportunity for racialized persons and those oppressed by Israel’s genocidal Gaza policy”.

    I’m paraphrasing, but these are all real organizations hiring right now. Even if I could stomach working for one of these organizations, I think they’d be pretty unlikely to hire someone like me.

    Our HR industry is dominated by young women – mostly newcomers- who are incentivized to hire on the basis of diversity and “culture”, which means excluding the majority of white male candidates, especially older ones.

    There are almost no jobs available at companies that produce tangible goods or resources, and that should be a warning to Canadians about what will happen to our economy over the next 2 years.
