  1. I live in an area where ALL crime is indigenous crime. Stabbings, vehicle theft, break ins, assaults etc. In the last few years it’s become common to see burned out vehicles by the side of the road, a phenomenon I refer to as indigenous combustion.

    1. Spontaneous indigenous combustion. Nice.

I wonder if the official Canadian government narrative that white colonialists are pure evil, and that the Christians running residential schools were/are mass murderers had anything to do with those things? I wonder if legalized pot and other drugs of choice had anything to do with those stats? I wonder if the toppling of colonialist statues has anything to do with it. I wonder if any of the “truths” of indigenous history can be reconciled by those stats?

Perhaps the natives should have stayed in those residential schools and learned how to get on in the rapidly changing world. Perhaps someone should have told them there was no business case for their culture remaining in the 6th century?

  2. In the immortal words of Colten Boushie’s family, “He was turning his life around.™”

    1. They’re always turning their lives around. And it’s never their fault, residential schools made them do it.

    2. The lawyer has to keep reminding them who it is they are referring to. All they know is that they get to “ching, ching, ching cash in on this tragedy!”

    1. Let me repeat the mantra …

“There are too many black and brown men incarcerated in Western, capitalist nations prisons”

Please make a note of it while you’re being mugged by one of those misunderstood black or brown men

  3. “Despite”?

Try “Because of” and it all makes perfect sense.

Trudeau was the worst thing to ever happen to First Nations in Canada. Lavishing insane amounts of money on these people with zero accountability or transparency. The vast majority see none of it and are left to the ravages of poverty and substance abuse. A small fraction of powerful natives have some very fat offshore bank accounts.

    1. Exactly! When there is little or no punishment for minor crime, and it’s taught that they’re victims and nothing they do is their own fault, what the government is doing is de facto promoting and encouraging more crime. So naturally the crimes get more serious and cannot be ignored. Prison becomes inevitable.

  4. It almost seems as though people need to have a purpose in life and a little ambition such as working to feed oneself, praying for something, taking care of family etc.

Liberal racists have eliminated all purpose from their pets, they even burned down their churches.

    Money laundering requires great sacrifices…

  5. In 1999 the SCOC decided the situation wasn’t good. It’s been 25 years since then, and it’s gotten worse.
Is the new or next federal gov’t going to continue with what hasn’t worked in the past 25 years, or are they going to return to the previous +130 years of what didn’t work, or are they going to try something new, which isn’t likely to work but what the heck let’s try all the options until we’re back to square one?

What is the role of incarceration? Is it to reform poor or bad behavoir? Is it to direct anger at those who violate the norms of society? Is it to simply protect mostly normal society against further violations?
Does it matter? In 25 years to the future, if in year 2050 the indigenous incarceration rate is 50% will they abandon what won’t work in the next 25 years? Is the rate the problem? Or is it that for all the gov’t solutions people continue to notice that we’re getting worse results? Is having worse results the problem? or is it that we’re noticing that the more resources we put into this system, the worse the results are?
Is anyone keeping track of how gov’t grows worse results at every turn?

What if, WHAT IF… these poor results are all because of pent up anger and possibly chemical changes wrought onto one’s body from poor quality water on reserves and nothing can be done after initial exposure to these toxins? If one could look into the future, to year 2125 and see how this all shakes out, would the incarceration percent approach 75% or will it be the same, or much lower? What if, those tasked with deciding the outcomes were punished individually for their own failures on this?

Instead of collecting gov’t pensions for eternity? What if pensions were given for results, instead of “for trying” … or for “trying real hard”?

    1. Pent up anger? That comes from being indoctrinated into believing you’re a victim and nothing is your fault, no matter what you do.

Poor quality water on reserves? Most have good water, and how would that affect those who live in cities, not the Rez? I know an older indigenous gent whose son moved his family off the Rez and into town because he says, the Rez is such a bad place.

Don’t make excuses for them, that, to a large extent, is what got them into this situation in the first place.

      1. It’s clear in my commentary that I’m not “making excuses” nor sticking with the narrative that it’s all white people’s fault. I mentioned poor quality water, as it’s been shown cause problems for all sorts of people in many locations.

I doubt saying they need to take responsibility for the gamut of problems is the reason they’re sick in the head. There’s too many mitigating factors though I think tossing the entirety of The Indian Act in the garbage may be the most helpful, “race based law” seems to block all solutions, and worse, block all attempts at asking why this is so…

        1. The potable water problem is pure bullshit. A lot of reserves have $30 to 50 million budgets and don’t fix their water systems because they would have to shut the bleep up. In a lot of situations Metis villages next to the reserves have good water despite having a budget that is a tiny fraction of the reserve. Potable water isn’t magic and it is a local government issue, not federal.

  6. The idea that OUR natives belong to us or are in need of fixing is the first problem..

  7. Dirty water?..

I wonder how many non natives areas have dirty water and nobody gives a flying fig about it :).. I also wonder what testing itself.. Time of year, equipment used.. Acceptable PPM levels.. Every house, one house, every other street..

Activist driven clean water is like climate science.. 100% sure you could game Toronto’s water supply results to fail every time..

Build a big tank and throw a chlorine puck into it every other day.. Boy, us white people sure have it good..

    1. I read about one reserve a few years ago that got state-of-the-art water treatment system installed by government. But they were still on boil water advisory because they couldn’t find anyone to look after it. I guess they expected the feds to do that too.

    2. One reserve quit chlorinating because chlorine was giving everyone scabies. Somebody missed residential school. I don’t see how filtered water that is chlorinated could be anything but potable.

      1. It depends on the Ph of the water, the concentration of the chlorine, what’s in the water that makes it non potable, it isn’t “single issue” and neither are the issues affecting them. You know the saying from Tolstoy (Anna Karenina) “happy families are all alike, every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way”

All the reserves in Canada except one (I think it’s in BC and they willingly left the big umbrella of the Indian Act) are under the jurisdiction of the federal gov’t. None are “local government issues” … it’s like having a car accident at an airport and having to call the RCMP.

I’m not advocating for anything other than… everything the gov’t has done in the past +150 years has been unhelpful or has gotten poor results for massive dollars. I think everything else should be looked at, and the Indian Reserves all seem to have bad water, that’s kind of basic, and easy to repair, maybe start there.

Clearly, having the criminal justice system inundated with 1 class or race of people is not helpful, it makes the country look collectively stupid, for not being able to address such a simple problem. For having such intelligent people be unable to address the problems of people who are largely viewed as being unintelligent, makes me question the intelligence of the so called intelligent people. If those people are above question, then you’ll just have to live with the problem, as it’s not going to be addressed, ever.

  8. About 12 years ago there was a reserve in northern Ontario which was moved as their water problems seemed to be insurmountable. The discharge – sewage pipe entered the river upstream from the water intake to the water treatment plant. I don’t know who the idiot was who planned or built it. The reserve relied on a chlorine injection system which needed to be regularly maintained, and for extended periods of time none of the 4 social workers on site knew how to repair the problem, and they all let it slide, and it isn’t a social worker type of problem. The “duckbill” valve which fed chlorine into the system was corroded (it’s a very common problem with these, the cost is under $100 for one). None of the residents on this reserve knew how to diagnose this, nor had basic plumbing experience. It seems to me whoever wanted to take on the job and knew what they’re doing would be treated well considering the alternative…

Eventually it was decided to move the entire reserve, nobody wanted the job, the 4 social workers couldn’t help.
I’m not saying, the problem is “in the water” …. but for all the solutions the gov’t has offered, the $ billions of handouts, the soft touch and soft expectations of generations of these people, and yet the problem increases year by year.
Try something new, one of the reserves north of Thunder Bay Ont. has been on boil water advisory for +29 years.
Maybe they have “pent up anger” issues after 29 years?
Maybe tier 2 Canada should toss out the entire Indian Act and fire everyone who’s helping? It’s getting worse with every gov’t initiative and people are saying we should have a program for this…

I wish it was Toronto on boil water advisory, or better yet Ottawa – Hull. That’d be even sweeter…

  9. I believe (?) Barry O’Bama and Eric Holder invented the bogus concept of disproportionate impact.
We’re not seeing much about this yet but the Govt of Canada is initiating a separate Black Justice system based on this and have invented another phobia: afrophobia. Man, the culture warriors and the islamists have garnered a lot of mileage outta that eh!

  10. You can add to the list the Chief of Carry the Kettle reserve in Sask for money laundering, theft, fraud, and breach of trust.

How flipping bad does it have to be for the RCMP to arrest the chief? I’m fairly certain most reserves have the same issues..

But we can’t investigate the books because…racism or something
