What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

Blacklock’s – Army Drops Standard IQ Test

“We are aiming towards being a representation of all Canadians within our forces,” General Carignan told reporters. “It means we need to recruit enough diversity.”

Update, from Kate: The Canadian military is gearing up to take on those Yanks.

  1. It means Canadians aren’t having enough children.
Every military in the world is, or will be, facing this problem. There aren’t enough warm bodies to fill positions. War may come to an end because there aren’t enough qualified people left to fight.

    1. Foreigners serving in an army is more common than people think. In WW2 many foreigners served in British, Canadian, and American militaries.

Even today non-citizens can serve in the US military provided they have a U.S. permanent residence card (green card).

And the Russian army currently has many foreigners.

      1. And the US will happily fast track a green card for willing and able applicants. Especially those that fit the bill for certain positions.

UK will take anyone but prefers I think three years as a landed resident?

  2. “We are aiming towards being a representation of all Canadians within our forces. …….. It means we need to recruit enough diversity.”

Wow. The jokes will write themselves over that quote.

  3. This means that the diverse applicants are too stupid to pass IQ tests, which shouldn’t be surprising when they come from countries with average IQs in the high 70s low 80s. US armed forces can’t recruit people with an IQ below 85 because they are too stupid to be trainable and useful. Half the world is too stupid to be soldiers by that standard, and these people are the New Canadians who are going to make us a global economic super power in the future.

  4. I’m fine with foreigners signing up, and the French Foreign Legion has quite a storied past which may go to supporting that, as any other military which allows foreigners to sign up.

I doubt that allowing those with diminished mental capacity is a good idea. If the Canadian military wanted more recruits they could do something about the shoddy way they treat those currently signed up, and those who have retired. Those are the people they should be asking for insight into what’s the problem.

Everyone thinking about signing up knows the Canadian military shortchanges their military spending by more than $16 billion each year, and grotesquely misses the mark on equipment expenditures.

    Start there…

  5. Lets see, they sign up but the process takes too long so they quit. Do they stay in Just long enough to learn how to handle a gun ? The results could be interesting.

  6. I just read Max Hastings account of the Dambusters raid. Most of the airmen were under 25, superbly trained and able to execute a feat that no one had thought possible: pushing a fully loaded Lancaster flying 250 mph with a 5 ton bomb, 60 feet above the water and hitting the target precisely. These were boys, six Canadians, who said thing like, “Wizard navigating!” and several crew did not make it back.
What a despicable betrayal of these amazing young men.
P.S. The commander of unit 617 had a dog named Ni**er. Different times.

    1. Laurie: I have a copy of John Sweetman’s book on the Dambusters. According to his crew listing there were 28 RCAF members, including three pilots (one of whom was actually an American). There were also 11 Australians (3 pilots) and two New Zealanders (one pilot).

I have a copy of the 1955 movie about the raid. Excellent movie, and it included some of Barnes Wallis’ actual test equipment plus documentary filming of actual tests. As you point out, the name of Guy Gibson’s dog is very non-PC these days, and to add to the problem, the dog’s name was used as a code word during the raid to signify the breaching of the Mohne Dam, which was included in the movie.

I have also visited the Mohne, Eder and Sorpe dams just to get a feel for the task.

  7. Lots of FAS males coming into the cities from outside nations within our nation that would qualify, as you would have to be suffering from FAS to consider join our joke military as well as defending a country led by this Liberal government.

  8. Diversity hire promotes diversity. What a surprise.

“In 2021, she was promoted to lieutenant-general, and became CAF’s first chief for Professional Conduct and Culture.”
