And that’s why I’m stockpiling antibiotics and ammunition.
Last month, I received a tip from a nursing student at University of Alberta who’d been required to take a course called Indigenous Health in Canada. It’s a “worthwhile subject,” my correspondent (correctly) noted, “but it won’t surprise you to learn [that the course consists of] four months of self-flagellation led by a white woman. One of our assignments, worth 30 percent, is a land acknowledgement, and instructions include to ‘commit to concrete actions to disrupt settler colonialism’… This feels like a religious ritual to me.”
Canadian universities are now full of courses like this—which are supposed to teach students about Indigenous issues, but instead consist of little more than ideologically programmed call-and-response sessions. As I wrote on social media, this University of Alberta course offers a particularly appalling specimen of the genre, especially in regard to the instructor’s use of repetitive academic jargon, and the explicit blurring of boundaries between legitimate academic instruction and cultish struggle session.

Last month, I received a tip from a nursing student at University of Alberta who’d been required to take a course called
5 words:
Soda
KFC
Obesity
Diabetes
Substances
I left the exam early..
^^ LOL ^^
You clearly misunderstood the assignment. It’s SELF flagellation… not blame-shaming.
Oh, crap, I told the truth when I was supposed to lie, there goes my chances!
I was working at a hangar in Saskatchewan once, they were loading a plane to head up north to one of the remote communities, it was pallets of diapers, coca-cola, potato chips and other sundries. I watched as the cabin crew were loading insulated bags of hot food and when I asked, they told me it was buckets of KFC.
They had to get the goods up north asap, so the men didn’t get ornery and start beating up their wives!
Ooops, I did it again!
After watching several seasons of Arctic Air and Air Alaska, the one thing I came away thinking was “why in the hell are we paying people to live in these places?”
Also, there is a metabolic issue; the indigenous population’s digestive system is geared to a high protein, low carb diet and the “farmer” diet of fairly high carbs wreaks havoc. This is finally being recognized; Indians from the west coast are returning to the native diet insofar as they can with good results.
All bodies are not created equal; theirs cannot properly digest a high carbohydrate (think grain-based) diet, even if the “health” pyramid said the grain-based carbs should form a large portion of one’s food.
Ahhh, those magical conservatives called Albertans.
I’ll happily chip in for the bus tickets for most of them to go back East.
Well, Albertans have known for a long time that “universities” in the province are filled with idiot leftists. Which is why we need to defund certain faculties and put the money into trade schools.
Not lost on anyone with a functioning brain that those that prattle on about “decolonization” are the same as those that espouse unlimited immigration.
My daughter had this shit shoved down her throat in nursing school. Any wonder her cohort looks at Canada as nothing more than where she currently resides? And is looking forward to leaving.
And the lights are going OUT in the Universities! The destruction of our Democracy!
Funding for universities should be cut drastically to get rid of some of the useless faculties and the funds redirected to trade schools.
Yet one more reason why I’m no longer donating money to my alma mater.
Here in Old Peopleville, the local nursing homes are bringing in foreign workers as LPNs to do two weeks on two weeks off. I was gobbed smacked to hear that they are now bringing in workers with no to low skills to take care of the elderly. Mostly male workers to boot. Nothing surprises me in this Socialist Nation anymore, nothing.
Here’s what I wrote and I got an A.
I reserve the right given to me from our land to express myself using our sacred song.
Hi ya hiya hiya hiya
Hi ya hiya hiya hiya
Hi ya hiya hiya hiya
Yes, and people want this diseased and institutionally racist country to survive. Why ?
Because it still has a few shiny bells and whistles left, that deliver the illusion of contentment .
Settler colonizers.
All so called First Nations are settler colonizers. They came from east Asia; i.e. China, Korea, Siberia.
Perhaps they should decolonize and return to their ancestral homes.
Now that I’m thinking about things, maybe it’s for the best we export most of our medical students and instead hire from places where they might actually study medicine. Might not be cutting edge medicine, but they seem to take it a lot more seriously elsewhere.
Outstanding letter from Jonathan Kay. Really, really, well-written.
Yet something puzzles me about our Leftist betters. Why are they so concerned about native peoples living in remote, inaccessible North American places? Funny thing … these people (white liberals) want to throw money and the white mans cultural implements at Canadian natives … but they tell us to stay-away from the natives of the Brazilian rainforest. They literally want “no-contact” with these peoples. Star Trek even developed a “prime directive” to not interfere in any way with primitive peoples of primitive planets.
What’s the difference? Brazilian development has steamrolled over native habitats and lands. Brazilian native peoples have been pushed onto remote “reservations” in the rainforest. So why isn’t the Brazilian government throwing money and modernity at these peoples living too? Soda, KFC, and diabetes? Where are the Brazilian land acknowledgments?
That’s a real curiosity to me …
So because 1 or 2 or 10 of their ancestors walked all over *less than* 1/100,000th of the area of this country they think that this was ALL THEIR LAND????
Up yours !!
I wonder if refusing to treat “indigenous peoples” with modern medicine would be construed as striking a blow against “settler colonialism” and all its awful, dastardly works.
The Best and The Brightest Are Not Welcome Here.
All of this has trickled up to create a nation less competitive, on the international stage, than it might otherwise be.
Reminds me of the conversation Hillary Clinton is rumored to have had with Mother Teresa.
“Why do you think we have never had a female president?” (Hillary)
“You probably aborted her.” (Mother Teresa)
They are/were not native to this land. They were nomads. Following the caribou/buffalo herds. Now they follow the gravy train.
They lost me at “articulate your positionality” .
Trump should change his conditions on the tariffs to something like;
“Due to Canada’s know history of colonialism and genocide, and in the spirit of reconciliation, the US will impose a 100% tariff on Canadian goods until such time as all of the indigenous children that are buried at the residential schools are exhumed and reburied in a national memorial cemetery.”
“Conservatives typically didn’t care about these communities. ” – Good that Mr. Kay beats that particular strawman.
There is a difference between “don’t care” and “provide practical solutions that could work, only to be told that it’s racist/sexist/NotSeeIsm” because it doesn’t fete their stone age cultures. Eventually, that results in ” we offered, but we can’t save you from yourself”
Is Mr Kay wilfully Stupid? this passage: “But by the time anyone (including me) discovered this, it was too late: The idea that 215 little bodies had been lifted from the earth had become a sort of national martyrs myth—and has become so central to progressive political dogma in this country that Trudeau’s government has even mulled legislation that would criminalize “denialists” (such as me, I guess) who dispute the mythology of 2021.” points to yes. Many of us pointed out that what they were saying didn’t make sense at the time, but we were drowned out by the “experts” and the press, of which Kay is a member.
Kay is not conservative. He’s on our side when it comes to transgenderism and some of the indigenous issues, but beyond that he’s just another mushy middle Canadian who’d really rather not vote Conservative unless the Liberals just give him no choice.
There are serious limitations within many of Canada’s pundits in that they may be able to recognize one or two issues that are completely rotten in this country, but anything other than those issues are assumed to still be hunky dory as if they are stuck in the 1980s or so. Add TDS and stir.
the u.n./nwo is doing the same thing to the auzzies
Engineering students at the U of Saskatchewan are also required to write a land acknowledgement for one of their required first year courses.
Did this idiot course supervisor ever think to look at the history of how white medical practitioners sought to save the lives of Indians, particularly against the scourge of TB? Obviously this ignoramus has no idea of the government building and staffing “preventoria” (each one was called a “preventorium”) at which young Indian children showing early signs of TB were treated with the hope their immune systems would be able to fight off TB. There was one down in the lower mainland of BC, and another up the West Coast. Young Indians would be brought to these institutions in the hope that fresh air and regular nutrition (all that was available in the 1930s) would strengthen their immune systems so they would fight off TB and become immune.
