  1. When you’re all regarded as foreign socialists, you don’t get taken seriously, especially when your appointments are with the Demarxists.
What a sad state of affairs this country is in.
What the Americans should do, is take Eby into a meeting, and lecture him about his permissive drug attitude, about the disaster his free hard drug policy is, show him the document evidence of all his Dillies being trafficked in the US, and the evidence of surveillance of Vancouver ports.
These sad sacks have no idea how over their heads they are. It’s just another travel excuse for luxury meals.

    1. Sam Cooper knows him well apparently and has told him all, but Eby has to toe the line I guess.

  2. It won’t be the efforts of a Canadian delegation that stop the tariffs it will be internal pressure from Governors, US business and markets that are affected. Trump will be forced to react.

Yesterday KY Gov Beshear suggested he is alarmed that KY bourbon is taken off the shelf in Ontario. He said the last time this happened it significantly damaged their market. He pointed out that KY overwhelmingly supported DJT in the November elections.

KY also has 2 GOP Senators Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul. You think the KY distillers aren’t all over those guys?

Coca-Cola just announced they won’t have enough aluminum to meet market demand. Coke is sited as a major polluter in the US because of their use of plastics. They don’t want to use more plastic but are now forced to.

    Things will shift rapidly.

    1. Let me tell you a little something, bro.

The USA doesn’t have much in the way of aluminum smelting. That’s -bad- for them. They need to build that up. Coke can’t get cans? Imagine Boeing. That’s bad.

The USA doesn’t have much in the way of steel plants. They have OLD steel plants. Really old. The newest, most state-of-the-art steel plant in North America is Stelco at Nanticoke in Ontario. I remember when it was built, that was when I was a kid. It’s 50 years old, give or take. They make all the automotive-grade steel for North America. That’s -bad- for the USA. They need to build that up.

The Chicoms can ship okay quality mild steel to Vancouver cheaper than Stelco can make it. That’s why Stelco specializes, and that’s why nobody is building new steel plants in America/Canada/Mexico.

You can’t build a business when the competition can land product on your customer’s loading dock cheaper than you can make it. That’s what is going on here.

You can pretend this is all about Trump, but anybody who knows anything is laughing. This is not about Trump.

      1. I hear you bro, but in the US we do have Nucor Steel. I don’t know to what extent they provide the US with steel, but in the South East US, they’re a pretty good steel company.

      2. Then the correct answer is to just keep importing ChiCom steel and Canadian aluminum.

        “This is not about Trump.”

Yeah, it’s about a superpower destroying itself. We are witnessing The End in real time.

  3. The last time I saw this much anti-American hysteria was the 1980s, remember the whole “Yanky go home” theme? We have the Quebec dairy and egg cartel, we have very little movement of our goods via provinces but they can’t fix those issues so they travel to the US.

  4. In the long run … Canada needs US more than we need them. And in the long run, it serves our national interest to restore modern, productive steel and aluminum plants in America … and not outsource vital strategic industries to hostile, communist, nations that literally BOO America.

And if I have to cut-back my seriously Trumpesque level Diet Coke habit or buy more plastic liter jugs of Coke … so be it. Meh. And if CocaCola jacks up their costs? It won’t be the first cold-turkey boycott of my life.

And if the people of a Pink State who have elected a RINO like McConnell for decades and decades lose a share of their Bourbon market? Let them explore new markets in Russia as a new rapprochement is established between our nations.

    1. Kenji

Go easy buddy. When was the last time CA sent a Republican Senator to DC? Just sayin’.

Canada has it’s deficiencies. They are on full display for all to see. I don’t mind you pointing out our shortcomings but be kind. We’re not the enemy. We have shared our resources with America and in turn have benefited greatly from US generosity. We fought together in wars. We have been a good neighbour – so good in fact that fences weren’t required.

Is it time for a reset? It is. I’m glad Trump is moving the goalposts. Hopefully things in Canada will change for the positive. They need to. The world has changed and Canada sat on the sidelines, watching.

We have the resources the US want and need. We can both profit from new trade agreements. All this talk of
51 State and governor trudeau was briefly funny but unhelpful. We need to tone down the rhetoric and move forward to a common goal that we all benefit from.

      1. First and foremost, we need to clean up our own governments’ corruption (note, that’s – GOVERNMENTS’ — plural!).
Then we need to re-establish what it means to be free in our society, and not just sheep dogs for these corrupt governments (not to mention their minions in the media).

Then we can negotiate a free AND FAIR trade agreement with the US.

      2. ab … you should already know how much I love Canada and Canadians … and that my SIL is Canadian … and my two grandsons just got Canadian citizenship (dual US/Canadian citizens). I even gave my grandsons a detailed map of the US AND Canada for Christmas … so they can SEE their two countries every day

However I stand by this statement … and not outsource vital strategic industries to hostile, communist, nations that literally BOO America

Sorry, but both Trump and I see the handwriting on the wall … your traditional capitalist Canadians have been REPLACED by communist sympathizers. Your nation is teetering on the brink. A “tipping point” … and it’s pretty obvious which way you’re falling.

        1. Well Kenji I hardly think Canada is a hostile communist nation but if that’s how you feel – fill your boots.

Hopefully Trump will be around long enough to exact some meaningful change on both sides of the border.

      3. abtrapper – Canada is beyond “ having deficiencies “. It is a threat to US national security, and it shows no signs of self-regulation or improvement. The political system is in fact North Korean-scale deficient and Stalinist.

If Canada refuses to sign on Trump’s dotted line, why not collapse the house of cards? The US can not tolerate a China-controlled narco-state as a “ partner”. There must be regime change.

        1. Canada is in no way a threat to US national security. Tulsi Gabbard is. You can take your dotted line and shove it.

      4. There are many more Republicans in CA than most people imagine. Though not in LA. There’s pretty good evidence the Dems have been stealing Rep seats for a long time, and did very definitely in this last election.

    2. Trump is more vulnerable than he appears.

If Trump causes a severe trade war with Canada, he will put hundreds of thousands, and possibly millions, of Americans out of work. And they can expect inflation in things like food, as the prices of fuel and fertilizer increase for farmers. And he might even trigger a recession.

And that will have Americans asking when the “great” part begins, because losing your job doesn’t feel that great. Trump’s support will melt like butter in a microwave, and the rest of his presidency will be spent recovering from that.

And yes, a trade war will be far harder on Canadians, but if they are resolute it will likely be Trump who backs down from this game of chicken.

      1. You’re forgetting that Trump used tariffs strategically in his first administration and the economy boomed while he was President.

      2. Sorry, but arrogant ponces like you, are disregarded with any opinion you have.
The Americans will look after themselves quite well, thank you very much. They don’t need a stupid, grifting Canadian, like you, telling the, what’s good or not, for them. But that seems to be the strategy of Liberal Leftist Canadians, who are consistently smug and annoying.
        Ok KAREN?

    3. When Mitch McConnell voted against Tulsi Gabbard today, I thought “the king of the swamp creatures is the Alligator”. But then it occurred to me that in DC, it’s far too cold for alligators. So in DC, the king of the swamp is the common snapping turtle, A.K.A. Mitch McConnell.

    4. “it serves our national interest to restore modern, productive steel and aluminum plants in America”

No it doesn’t. If it did, the free market would build it. ‘Muh manufacturing’ is for poor peasant backwaters, which is what America is trending towards at this rate.

  5. “Warn” is already setting the wrong tone – Provincial Premiers don’t wield any power in foreign affairs so this attitude is laughable. Talking to law makers instead of Trump is also pathetic. What next? Try to win Melania over to our side and have her pressure her husband?

If the Premiers go over to try and win favor then they should be very conciliatory and begging for a few extra months of leeway until Canadians have a chance to eject Trudeau and the Liberal/NDP government.

    1. The way things are going, Dan, I am not sure we will have a snap election. Lieb’s strategy seems to suggest they are doing everything they can to postpone the election as far as possible, possibly as far as 2026, and (I’m sorry to say) the tariffs aren’t going to help the prospects of an election sooner rather than later.
I can see how the liebs are going to try to spin this into another election victory. Crossing my fingers and praying that it won’t work, but my faith in the Canuckistanian electorate is fleeting.

      1. Carney’s need to become fluent in french probably means no snap election. It’s doubtful that he’ll improve that quickly, however.

    2. They should have Jagmeet tagging along.
He says he ‘put Trump on notice’.
Good thing the Turd didn’t go.

    3. “Warn” doesn’t necessarily mean the premiers will act. What they are likely warning about is the inevitible consequences of tariffs or trade wars, even if the premiers do nothing at all.

  6. The hidebound commitment to supply mismanagement inevitably turns all of these trade missions into a car crash.

    1. Well, if the 9 other premiers, turdo, jag, and pee-pee had their way, she’d damned well be crucified.

  7. Some may disagree but Trump is thinking strategically. Look at Panama and Greenland. Steel and Aluminium are strategic materials and the decrepitude of the US in that department is to be corrected. Dumping cheap steel on the US economy was probably done with the purpose of destroying its industry. It might hurt for a while, but it is better than being at the mercy of China. Having a lawless Chinese-controlled narco-state/money laundry and outpost on their northern border is not going well with Trump either. The matter of expanding control of Canadian politics and economy by a hostile state. They can ban all the bourbon they want and have all the other childish tantrums. It’s not going to make a dent until adults face the reality of what this country has become.

    1. More fact-free BS. The US produces plenty of steel and is better off with cheap imports.

As is Canada. With America mutilating itself with tariffs, time for Canada to do the opposite and open up even more especially to China. This is an opening for (presumptive) PM Carney-start by just terminating those horrible tariffs on BYD cars and other imports imposed at the same time. Then start talks with China and ASEAN for trade deals.

      1. Chyna produces about 10 times more steel than the US. It’s easy to check. 787 million tons versus 79 for the US. The importance of strategic materials is not about economy.

  8. Note that “Team Canada” does not include Trudeau. That is a great leap forward. Leblanc is one of few Liberals with any credibility in the States.
24 days until Trudeau’s replacement is announced (ok, so its Carney but I don’t want to give the secret away) so he is the lamest of lame ducks, The premiers and us are better off without him especially as he is Trump’s target.
