Birds everywhere raise a cheer for the end of this avian-frying monstrosity.
Pilots will cheer its demise as well. If you have flown anywhere in that part of the US, you will see the bright glare from it for hundreds of miles. It can be quite blinding to see anything in its direction including other aircraft.
The article says solar energy is so great now that even something from 2014 can’t keep up.
And it implies that the future lies with even better “renewables”.
it didn’t mention how much this power plant produced at night though…
IIRC, it also had natural gas heaters to get the water temperature up so sunshine hours wouldn’t be wasted heating up the tanks to boiling.
One of the ‘burning’ questions was who would get the Kentucky Fried Raptor franchise?
I’m not surprised at its closing – but it was interesting to drive by at dusk and see the collectors in the towers glowing red. Good news for the birds though.
I have to admit, it seemed like a cool idea. But it didn’t work out as expected.
