True North- Prosecution budget issues leading to fentanyl trafficking charges getting dropped
Serious criminal charges are getting thrown out because of budget cuts in the federal prosecution service, an Ontario police chief says.
Hamilton, Ont. police chief Frank Bergen voiced frustration and disappointment at a police services board meeting after learning that the Public Prosecution Service of Canada (PPSC) dropped 19 drug trafficking charges laid by Hamilton officers earlier this month.

If the Americans are suddenly that concerned about fentanyl crossing the border, why don’t they do a better job of policing their borders?
That would have been a great question to ask a little over two weeks ago. Because two weeks ago the administration in power in the US did not make any effort to control entry or narcotics transfer across the border. In fact, they encouraged it.
Two weeks later, however, the current administration is not only focusing on stopping illegal border crossings but removing those drug dealers and criminals already in the US due to the previous administration’s neglect. I’d add that the current administration quantified the Drug Cartels in Mexico as terrorists (and their days of operating openly are behind us). Additionally, the tariffs put on China are partly in response to their involvement in fentanyl production and trafficking.
BTW, were you aware that there are two Mexican Drug Cartels set up and operating in Canada out of Montreal, Toronto and Quebec City?

Recently drove from Calgary to Toronto and back, for the second winter drive since “covid.” What one will see are plenty of near ghost towns, abandoned, burnt out motels, repair shops, gas stations and strip malls, AND a cannabis outlet wherever possible, no matter the size of town or hamlet.
The TransCanada, while not yet painted in rainbow colours, is still an underachieved and pathetic attempt at a national highway for a nation that can GIVE billions away to other nations.
There aren’t even highway reflectors in the pavement that I’ve witnessed as routine in the Philippines, apparently, a third world country.
Now, beware and carry a jerry can or two if travelling after midnight on a long haul journey. There are no 24-hour private gas stations anymore since there’s not enough traffic to stay open. You’re fine if you have access to a Card Lock.
It was -26 this past mid-December (we drove thru the Sask snow squalls posted here), but when we were between Winnipeg and Regina, diving west, we almost ran out of gas (highway habit is to top up all the time, but there was no one open!). Luckily a fella had a still working card lock card and he literally gave us 40 litres that got us to Regina … and businesses opened for the day. 42 hours from Toronto -> Calgary towing a smaller enclosed U-haul trailer, no speeding, two drivers, only stopping for gas and apple fritters.
Also saw many rigs in the ditches, rigs broken down. Guess who we saw were driving? Hint: as recently as two or three years ago, they lived their lives in flipflops. Now, they’re driving in winter on the north shores of Superior and not surviving.
They’re too busy blowing the budget prosecuting Freedom Convoy members.
Always follows the same pattern, the police hold a press conference, showing a laundry list of charges that want the crown to prosecute, and then the crown quietly drops or suspends the charges, or gives out a plea deal that is laughable if it wasn’t so serious.
Same pattern lead up to the government changing the gun laws, resulting in massive penalties to the law abiding, but slaps on the wrist for criminals.

Start with this example. Stolen vehicles from Canada hop the Antwerp line as a stop over, and eventually end up in the Middle East or the Congo. CBC did an expose using a Brampton native who had two cars stolen previously. So he put a Apple tracker in his truck…which was stolen. He followed it in real time notifying local police who traveled to the Docks and were promptly told by the Dock Police (a totally separate entity) to go away. The truck eventually ended up in a Used Car lot in Qatar. The Apple tracker still inside and transmitting. When it was at the Docks, the local police officers actually stood next to the cargo container holding this guy’s truck, but could do nothing. Psssssstttt….the criminal organizations control your Dock police department. It’s not rocket science.
They’ll do (did) the same thing to your politicians who issue funding. They likely did the same thing to your prosecutors (especially the contracted ones). What Canada needs if they really want to clean this up is a requirement that all law enforcement, and legal system employees adhere to a forensic financial audit of the “proctology” type. Politicians too, but they’d never allow it.
Hence this is exactly why … Trump is America’s only savior. He is beholden to no one. He doesn’t need to pay-off any donor whatsoever. He is utterly free from corruption. This is exactly why the Left had to falsely make him a “felon”. It’s all FAKE. Except Trump. He’s as REAL as REALITY gets
