Obligation To Serve

Six Things to Know About Your Electric Utility

Many years ago, a comedy group posted a video featuring actors as average Americans in a slick faux commercial satirizing coal energy. Turns out the coincident target of this mockery was the rest of us and how little we understand about what powers our lives.

“What if the power to sustain your world was right inside a mountain?” asks the narrator. He continues, “What if you could power an entire city for a hundred dollars?” A man in a hard hat says, “Cheap power is clean power. The future is later.” A woman looks soberly at the camera, “Electricity comes from the walls in my home where I live.”

“The average wind farm has 150 turbines. Each wind turbine requires 80 gallons of oil for lubrication, and this isn’t vegetable oil; this is a PAO synthetic oil based on crude… 12,000 gallons. Once a year, that oil must be replenished. Green new deal, huh?”

  2. I remember a video posted a few years ago with a woman at a gas station trying to
figure how to pump the gas into her EV!

    1. I was looking at a couple of new cars while having my vehicle serviced. One was gas, the other electric. The gas one was 41 thousand dollars, the electric 80 thousand dollars. The gas one had a sticker where the door opened to fuel the vehicle, the sticker simply said GAS. The electric had a lightening bolt indicating you plugged it in at that point. Looks like people really are getting dumber.
