    1. Only 49,676 indeed! That was exactly my first thought

      And how many tens of thousands more are “semi-compliant” – i.e., they ‘attend’ classes from time just to show up and tick the relevant box but spend more time working for some ‘security’ company, or driving UberEats scooters or just milling around EVERYWHERE looking into their cell phones?

      There must be some vast international network of well-paid middlemen, consultants, etc., who are responsible for matching all these ‘students’ with all these ‘colleges’ that someone should really look into. These middlemen are probably linked to some pretty shady elements. Why haven’t I heard a peep about this in the media?

    2. The scarier thing is that those 50,000, plus another 23,000 represent a miniscule 3.3 percent of “international” AKA foreign students,

      1. ALL of these colleges – from the fairly legitimate ones (many of whom have been rapidly expanding their empires during this recent foreign student boom), to all the suspect, fly-by-night “career colleges” that one observes popping in every suburban strip mall – HAVE TO BE complicit or at least willfully blind to this obvious scam (the term “human trafficking” has been used by some foreign observers), not to mention a large group of employers, indeed, virtually entire industries, who seem to recruit almost all of their hires out of this ‘student’ pool, and don’t forget the entire government/bureaucratic ecosystem surrounding the Temporary Foreign Worker Program which I suspect is connected or at least ‘adjacent’ to all of this.

        I highly suspect that there is a massive journalistic bombshell to be uncovered here if any journalist had the inclination or wherewithal to dig, and – of course – I would not at all be surprised if some part of this obvious stench led back to the Liberal Party of Canada.*

        For now at least, this shall remain just my strong suspicion. Any real journalists out there want to take this up?

        *although to be fair, likely not the only political party with dirty hands here – salutations Premier Dougie!

  5. Our greedy, morally bankrupt “education system” ripoff students, and taxpayers twice, first from the billions stuffed into them by government and then when these “international students” end up in our welfare/healthcare/prison systems.

    Kindergarten to PhD the budgets need to be slashed in half because half of the slobs working in these schools spend all their time dedicated to supporting evil leftist politicians and attacking adults.

    1. The international students aren’t ending up in welfare/healthcare/prison at any significant rate and they are the ones paying our way, not the other way around.

      Great idea to ameliorate the coming Trumpcession: infinite international student visas. Let the money pour in.
