Background: Lil’ Justin has resigned. Parliament is prorogued. A Lieberal leadership campaign will soon commence.

So, my fellow Canadians, what do you predict will happen next?

Here’s my prediction: Mark Carney will run for leader of the Lieberals and win. Given the stupidity of way too many of our fellow Canadians, he’ll either win the next election or keep the Conservatives from achieving a majority.

What say you?!

        1. The Conservatives need to keep reminding Canadians of all that, especially of the WEF connections. They also need to remind Canadians that they have been lied to by the mainstream media for years, and trot out the stuff the media said then and what they are saying now. Voters have short memories and need constant reminding.

  2. I too think Carney is Igantieff 2.0, and that he may not even win the party leadership, never mind a general election.

    Conservative 200+ seat majority sometime by late spring, as whomever the Libs pluck from the wilderness to save them won’t amount to spit, though they may cling to official party status when they get wiped out.

        CPC will carry 40+% easily and push 45%, which in our electoral system will deliver them a landslide.

      3. This. I think Carney takes the leadership, presents the veneer of an adult in charge, ties the Conservatives to Trump’s MAGA and ekes out a minority with the help of the Bloc and NDP again. The NDP is too broke to campaign, the Libs will convince enough of their voters to vote L to keep the Cons out to steal a few seats.

        This isn’t the US. We’re not a MAGA country ruled over by a tiny power elite that hates us. A plurality of Canadians voted for this, wants this, and will vote for it again.

    2. Trudeau was the face of Liberal policies. With him gone, lefty voters will assume that the policies are gone too. Carney, being an outsider, won’t be tarnished by Liberal baggage the way Freeland is. There will be lots of hoopla and celebration over his winning the leadership which will bring back even more Liberal voters to the fold. Mainstream media will sing his praises.

      I don’t see the similarity to Ignatieff other than they were both outsiders. Iggy was his own worst enemy, a doufus who hadn’t lived in Canada for 20 years and only came back to be prime minister. Carney doesn’t carry that baggage either. I agree with Kate, Carney will win, or at least prevent PP from getting a majority.

Our only hope to avoid another Liberal government is if, like in the US, enough people are completely fed up with the climate and woke agendas and tell the media to take a hike. Keeping my fingers crossed, but not optimistic.

  4. CPC is already tee’d up to campaign against Carbon Tax Carney. Not as easy a win as going against Justin but it will be a big CPC majority win nonetheless.

    What does that mean to us, really?
    He’s still Prime Minister; still leading the country even though he’s granted himself and all MP’s a paid holiday until March.
    We still have Trudeau. We don’t have an Election. NOTHING changed.

        I think Justin is hoping the Conservatives, NDP, and Bloc vote non-confidence and force an election.

        Justin will still be leader, and thinks he can emulate his daddy’s win over Clarke.

        The pseudo resignation serves four purposes:
        a) It stops Liberals sniping at Justin
        b) It provides lots of free media coverage, much of it positive, as different candidates campaign for the leadership.
        c) It provides an opportunity for liberals and the media to attack Poilievre and the Conservatives.
        d) It diverts from the very real economic problems created by the Liberal/NDP government.

  7. Carney will be another hubris motivated librano mistake not unlike Dion/Ignatieff. He might be a world class banker but he has zero demonstrated political skills. In the cut and thrust world of federal politics he will be miles out of his comfort zone. Could he even address the nation in a manner Canadians could follow, or want to? Has anyone ever called him names? Yelled at him? Told him to FO?

    Bankers don’t run countries. They are sometimes asked for their opinion on a financial topic that they may have some expertise in. Freeland was supposed to have a depth of financial wizardry.

    1. If you think that bankers don’t run countries, then you haven’t read “The Creature from Jekyll Island” by Edward Griffin about the foundation of the US Federal Reserve and the history of centralized banking. It is a long read, but worth the perspective.

      He’s certainly a world class bureaucratic infighter to get where he got but I’m not sure if this translates into success in elective politics

      I’m tired of hearing about this or that person – i.e., Mark Carney – be reverentially described as being “smart” as this were some sort of magical quality that obviated everything else.

      I’ve attended a few fancy schools with “smart” people, as well as a few less than fancy places and I wish I could say the opposite – because it would justify my expensive education – but I know of no direct correlation – NONE – between one’s being “smart”- defined as an ability to perform well on tests – and one’s having any political – or other – sense whatsoever. Not infrequently, the reverse is true.

      Characterizing someone as “smart” may play well with some of the cheap seats (and diehards who would vote Liberal even as they were being led to the gas chamber – more than a few Canadians), but the closer you get to actual centers of power and leadership, the more you realize that frilly educational credentials barely matter, and that the higher up the ladder you go, the more removed you are from the actual Real World and the more you live in a bubble, surrounded by sycophants, yes-men and other assorted lackeys. Carney disappeared up his own fundament years ago.

      I’m not in the prediction business but I would not at all be shocked if Carbon Tax Carney tuend into Ignatieff 2.0

I am worried you are correct, but despite Carney’s support of the WEF, Modern Monetary Theory, the UN and the global warming fraud, may realize that if he runs right now he will be the next Ignatieff or Kim Campbell and may wait it out for the Liberals to lose this years election before considering any political ambitions.

          My guess is they’ll provide enough info to make Carney waver and reconsider his aspirations.

Trudeau has not finished presiding over the ruination of this Country. Trudeau cannot be trusted to do the right and honorable resignation for an immediate election, nor should people trust those Canadians who voted for the Liberal Party THREE times in the the obvious face of deeping fiscal crisis to do the right thing for once when we finally do get an election.

  13. It never fails to amaze me the astounding pessimism of the Canadian Conservatives. Now there have been cases in the past where we’ve been let down but it the end, it shouldn’t matter in the larger picture. We will get sullen if our chosen rep doesn’t meet exactly, every ideological point we believe and then stay home and not vote. We tend to lose, because the socialists will vote for an axe murdering pedophile if they claim to support abortion.

  14. I did the same sad calculation as Robert did: too many fellow Canadians will see Carney as a viable leader and sweep all the Liberal dirt under the rug. He will distance himself from the scandals while the dirt in his past and present will be hidden. The outcome: at best, a minority Conservative government (and don’t trust Singh’s emergence of a backbone). The writing is on the wall – literally. In OctoberI toured the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau and in the panels on the 2008 market crash, the hero who saved Canada from a worse outcome was… Mark Carney, then BoC governor. Not a word about the exceptional work of the pm at the time Steven Harper. The deck is already stacked.

  17. I imagine the question for Carney is whether or not he is willing to take the chance of sitting it out for 4 years on the opposition bench in that Romper room known as question period should his Party be defeated. I’m inclined to think not.

    However, if the ‘fix’ is in and he’s guaranteed a win then perhaps.

    One shouldn’t lose sight of the fact that Canada is the holy grail of natural resources that is the envy of many a foreign power …. being discounted by a naive and foolish population too witless to appreciate what they have and what could be.

    As to Trudeau leaving … well I wouldn’t bet the farm on it just yet.

The majority of Canadians would most certainly qualify as “low education voters”; indeed it’s hard to see how they could be anything else. It’s difficult to imagine why but a leadership race between Freeland and Carney seems most likely. The CBC, despite their best efforts , manages to show Joly as incompetant every time foreign affairs is reported on, so her candidacy is questionable.

  18. Carney is young enough to wait a few years to take over the Libs and lead them out of the wilderness, let someone else suffer from Trudeau (and all libs) failures. He’ll make lots of noise, but sit this one out.

    Will Jaggie and the Blocheads (60’s band name?) actually vote no confidence in the mini-budget in March and cause an election? Don’t know but don’t think so. Multiple prorogues until fall, it will be an October election.

    Will the Libs actually move a fast leadership race? Will the caucus meeting Wednesday change anything? Doubt it, they’ll try to hang on as long as possible to try to improve their ratings. Anyone leading this party is dog meat.

    So for now, Trudeau keeps being able to use the company jet for party politics (vacations, thinking school spring break in the Bahamas). MSM keeps trying to pump up the Libs. Jaggie goes on a tearing rant but doesn’t do anything useful. The Bloc keeps stealing as much as they can. Ontario early election dies.

    What Order in Council hell will we deal with in the meantime? Libs hate for Trump will affect us bigly.

    Guilbeault losses it completely without being able to move his agenda forward.

I expect miraculously they will find common ground with the new Liberals. Would not surprise me if the October election date is postponed. Who can have an election in a crisis?(negotiations with Trump) . And he has not resigned.

    2. Mark Carney will be 60 this spring, meaning he’ll be 64 for the 2029 electoral cycle. That’s only young by American political standards. Both Martin & Chretien were out of office before they were 70. You have to go clear back to Pearson to find a PM who was in office past 70.

  19. First the premise
    The liberals follow certain unwritten rules, one being alternation between a francophone and anglophone leader (other demographics need not apply)
    The LPC is currently working through the dilemma of having a rule that requires the leadership contest to be a minimum of four months. The dilemma being that if they hold to that rule they won’t have a leader in place by March 24 when Parliament resumes. It appears that all opposition parties have clued in (yes even the NDP) and have given notice that when parliament resumes they will be voting no confidence. Due to the fact that the first order of business is a speech from the throne that would mean Trudeau would be the one dictating to the yet determined leader what they will be campaigning on. Or, it could mean that if the government falls before the next leader is chosen the liberals go into the election without a leader, or stop the leadership race and let Justin have another kick at the can.
    Faced with that prospect the LPC is now forced to shoehorn someone of their choosing into the leadership that is ready to campaign on day one.
    That means they can’t risk putting someone in the leadership that has no experience campaigning, so that means Carney is out.
    Then they need a familiar anglophone name on the ballot which means LeBlanc, Champagne and Joly are out as well.
    Then they have to decide to go with a sitting MP or someone that needs to win a seat. This is important because the NDP may resort to propping up the government to avoid an election again which would then keep the new leader from becoming PM until they can win a seat in the House.
    That being the case, this leaves Freeland as the one they will try to convince liberals is the new messiah.

  20. Even if Carney were to win the LPC leadership his skills as a political campaigner are unknown. My suspicion is that he would have trouble relating to the average voter since his career has had him talking only to professional people about macro economics not about the bread and butter issues that concern most of us.

    A dog fight might be brewing. Libranos typically don’t wash the laundry in public but after 10 years of the Bong all bets are off.

  26. Freeland will likely fight hard for the leadership so ita not a sure thing. If Carney wins, the media will be plumping him hard. But the media is no longer listened-to by Millennials and younger (for whom the name “Carney” has no associations anyway). The media may be listened-to, but is not trusted, by Gen-X. So that leaves Boomers, who would have voted Lib anyway, regardless of Leader. So, I don’t think that Carney will be the saviour the Libs are looking for.

  27. One thing long overdue is a big Thank You to the freedom convoy. They truly lit the match that led to this long awaited ousting of Trydeau. The response of the Liberal Party to the truckers was to drop the mask, and all (most) saw the Liberals for who they truly are.

  31. People are tired of the Liberals. Doesn’t matter if is Carney or some other fool leading them. Government falls at the end of March , election in mid April. CPC wins giant majority. It’s not that complicated.

  32. Carney first has to survive the rough and tumble of the Liberal leadership contest, and that is in no way a given. His previous experience doesn’t include fights in the mud, and definitely doesn’t include fights in public. I give him at best a 30% chance of coming out of that on top.

    And the new media – that is, X/Twitter – doesn’t appear to be sold on him, and will absolutely enjoy making his life miserable. Now, the same can be said for the other possible Liberal leadership candidates, but they are more used to it than he is.

    And the demographics are against him, as well: the feminists of a certain age are getting up there in years, and, in voting terms, will be outnumbered by those who see this identity politics fixation as BS.

    Carney will never be Prime Minister.

    And, of course, I still think the Liberals, as a party, are gone for a generation, anyway.

  34. My take for what it is worth.
    US Tariffs coming towards the end of January. Parliament is shuttered until March 24, leaving no one to address the Tariff issues. Two months of tariffs should pretty much destroy what is left of Canada’s economy, not to mention run away sky rocketing inflation. Trudeau and his media will proclaim that Trudeau is the only hope we have to save the Country from Trump. He will be staying on as party leader and a fall election will be all about Trudeau saving democracy from Trump. Looks to me like a Trudeau/Mary Simon, smoke and mirror show to keep the Turd in power.
    Personally, I would like to see Canada become the 51st State or join the Republic of North America.

    Blarney Carney spent 13 years at Goldman Sachs; so by association he’s a tenured thief and con man well equipped to obfuscate all the missing monies and keep the grift going. “Not ready” didn’t succeed so… get to it.

    Observing commercial real estate in Canada is like watching (the movie) “The Big Short” run well over 120 minutes without a conclusion. Best rip off the Band-aid now, or not….

  38. Does Carney have the same mindset that Jim Prentice in Alberta had? Prentice never wanted to be leader of the opposition and his quick exit proved that. The conservatives have such a lead, would Carney risk going through all that only to be left as leader of the opposition?

    Carney has been advising Trudeau for a while. If Carney does go for it Poilievre needs to connect him to the current Liberal cabal and ding up his outsider facade and still plant the idea that he is Just Visiting.
