Greenland certainly has been making news recently.
President/President-elect Donald Trump’s tasked his pick for Ambassador to Denmark with persuading the Danes to sell us the resource-rich Arctic land.
Shortly afterward, a major power outage struck Greenland due to a downed transmission line.The outage left the region dark during a period of with temperatures dropping below -27 degrees Fahrenheit (-33°C).
Now, Greenland’s Prime Minister Mute Egede has called for independence from Denmark in his New Year’s speech, marking a significant shift in the rhetoric surrounding the Arctic island’s future.
About half of Greenland’s budget is subsidized by Denmark. I’m not sure how they would make up for a 50% fall in revenue.

Exactly. As soon as I saw Egede’s statement about “the shackles of colonialism” I realized he’s trying to shake down Denmark for more money. But what’s Greenland’s bargaining chip? That they’ll refuse to take money?
What goods or services can Greenland withhold to put the fear of god into Denmark? Blubber? Vitamin A deficiency?
The threat of agreements with other countries (China?) covering resource development.
A better fit for Greenland would be Canada but we already have too many economically useless self-pitying dependent territories. Add to those four welfare states otherwise known as Atlantic provinces plus Quebec, the biggest underachieving whiners of all. Maybe Greenland can get economic development aid from China.
Quebec’s GDP is higher than Alberta’s and Saskatchewan’s combined.
As is it’s population, Einstein. Quebec 9 million, Alsask 6.5 million.
Yet they still mooch billions on transfer payments because they’re supposedly poor. We’d all be better off if we kicked Quebec to the curve and dissolved the federation.

Why would the US want Greenland?
Don’t say resources. The US has lots of resources it’s not developing.
Military base. Minerals. Control over a northwest passage.

If public land in the US is any indication, that would be the end of any development possibilities for Greenland. I know, Trump is going to fix everything like he did last time / sarc. Agenda 2030 is still alive as long as the US funds the UN. That’s also the strongest argument against Canada joining the US. Our neo-feudal 89% Crown ownership would become a wildlands project and human exclusion zone.
Agreed. Before inviting anyone else to join them, the USA should solve its own problems, of which a twelve-year Obama presidency (2009-2017 and 2021-2025) is but one.

I’m good with the crown land situation. The only reason Canada needs it for humans is if we import more Pakis and Chinks and muslims.

Umm, no. The only current US military base in Greenland is Thule Air Base, and it’s entirely above ground. The underground base in Greenland was Camp Century starting in 1959, and it was closed in 1967. So the notion of “housing the worst of terrorists” is pure BS.

The annexation of Greenland by the USA would be electorally difficult on both the American and Danish ends, as the Danes don’t wanna give it up, and it would be a net burden on American taxpayers.
Militarily, it would be an even bigger waste of money, but on the bright side, an American military annexation of Greenland would pretty much destroy that supra-national globalist organization called NATO.

France sold the Louisiana Territory because it was a drain, they couldn’t defend it and they needed the money. Russia sold Alaska for the same reasons. Greenland is a drain on Denmark. For the right price it might do the same.

It would make sense for Greenland and Quebec to form a new country – Greebec or Queland. That way you would have two “needy” groups relying on each other for money 🙂

The date 2024 might have some significance compared to 1803 and 1867. Greenland isn’t Denmark’s to sell. It’s in free association with Denmark.

In My way of thinking use the clarity act and vote to leave Canada! Saskatchewan and Alberta hopefully would get 50% +1! Manitoba and British Columbia would be invited to do the same! I like the Idea of Buffalo but would also invite the Northern territories!
