  1. Moe has morphed into a centrist, i.e. a leader with no principles, seeking only a decent press. Slightly less massive government will no longer do, radical reform is in as citizens suffer continued decline in living standards due to idiotic energy policy, etc. etc. etc. Canada is waiting for and needs Javier Milie style reform, if only someone shows up with the balls to do it.

      I’m fine with supporting the Sask United party. The Sask Party’s best years are in the rear view mirror. They are focusing on maintaining themselves and not on taking a stand on the right side of tough issues. Not collecting the carbon tax is one thing they have right.

  3. Listening to Poilievre talking about free markets and reducing the bureaucracy isn’t just a breath of fresh air. I actually feel hope for this country of ours. Had to laugh when he spoke well of Scheer.

    I do not remember a time when Canadian politicians actually spoke well of free market principles. Harper did his best, but the media was too powerful back then.

        That reminds me of Christmas 1986 in Toronto. My kitchen was under renovation, but our mother was hellbent on having the family from Ottawa in my house for Christmas. I resolved it by making reservations at The Winter Palace at the top of the Sheraton Hotel. Beautiful atmosphere, excellent service but the dinner was “nouvelle cuisine”. I remind you of that disasterous chapter in dining. The meal was consomme soup, one thin slice of turkey with gravy artfully dribbled on it, a small scoop of duchess potatoes and 3 green beans per plate. Dessert was creme brulee! This was supposed to be Christmas dinner, it cost me a small fortune (thankfully Dad picked up the drinks and the tip). Afterwards, we all had to find a McDonalds to have hamburgers. That meal lives in infamy in all of our memories!

He wants to maintain supply management, block foreign investment, and put tariffs on BYD cars and other valuable Chinese imports. He’s mostly useful as an instrument to inflict on the Liberals a shock so harsh that they might do something interesting. Maybe they’ll actually become liberal! Or at least choose a leader that’s a non-embarrassing adult who can comprehend a spreadsheet.

      4. The fact that I hear the leader of a major canadian party quote Sowell and Milton Friedman… just seems unprecedented. And while I doubt the cpc itself has changed much, maybe they are just reading the weather vane properly.

        I too remain skeptical … but I feel the days of Scheer and OToole are long gone. Its like the party woke up and realized they no longer are called the “Progressive Conservatives”, so no need to pretend anymore.

        The Liberal Party is good at adapting to the zeitgeist. They just need to realize the zeitgeist is no longer dictated by the cbc. But I am not holding my breath.

Okay, fair enough I guess, but I am sure it’s a bad idea to expect much beyond 1) ending the worst (il)Liberal bills n’ stuff (including bad gun regulations) and 2) greatly alleviating the housing crisis. I think he can and probably will do that but probably some dumb stuff like nationalist tub-thumping over foreign investment. Poilievre is not a sophisticate, his talking points in QP usually come down to “You have to [VERB] the [NOUN].” Not good.

          Should also be prepared for a very short honeymoon for Pierre. Contrary to the impression the polls may give, he’s not popular. All the federal leaders are deeply net negative on favorability scores and Trudeau is easily the worst but Pierre had the worst net movement over 2024 (I think this was from Angus). A smart political right would prepare to infiltrate and steer the Liberals.

  4. Every problem Poilievre listed has been caused or aggravated severely by mass immigration. Canada has had mass dissimilar immigration for decades. When Trudeau said Canada was “post-national” he said it ten years ago, before he had started speed running it all, and he was mostly correct. That’s what decades of that stuff will do. Poilievre needs to get it on this. Enough.

  10. People’s Party is a much better choice than the CONservatives. Polievre gave the jackboot to Christine Anderson and the MP’s that met with her. He is better than Trudeau and probably better than OToole. That’s a very low standard.
    Polievre has not backed down on any part of his anti-freedom, compliance at all costs agenda. His Venezuelan born wife is also on record as anti freedom/ compliant. With them there is no hope for lessening the power of the nanny state other than a bit more money left in our pockets for bauble and trinkets.

    A vote for the Conservatives is a wasted vote.

    And he also knew that many of the negative issues facing Saskatchewan are the result of federal policy. Interesting that this is the direction this thread has taken!

  14. I thought the comments on this post were to be about the SK Party and it’s leadership?
    I heard of a sitting SK Party MLA getting a campaign team ready. If people want to make changes to a party buy a membership get involved and let the games begin. That’s what they did in the US and it worked.

      I believe if it had been linked this discussion would have appeared then.
      I appreciated the interview but I was also disappointed that the plandemic issues were not discussed.

    2. Carol, that doesn’t work anymore in Canada. I was a card carrying, financial supporting member of the old conservative party and things are no longer as they used to be. The party left me and they are far from conservative these days.

        Max is not who you believe he is!
        The only way you can change any organization is get involved and work until you change it, it works in any organization and any country.
