  1. I suspect that most of what he said went way over the heads of most of the people there.

    A devout socialist, of which there are many of in Canada, would be thinking the whole time, “but we haven’t tried it my way yet.”

    Even after socialist experiments fail, the advocates won’t budge away from their stupid beliefs!

    1. I think it is for one reason only – there are too many “takers and not enough makers”. As a caring developed economy which is Christian, it is important to take care of the elderly, the disabled, the children. But when you add in people who stay unemployed because the “make” more than going to work, people who have too many children by too many different fathers, people who are not willing to help themselves, the government will always run out of money and then either borrow or print more money, causing inflation.

        Where Milei is brilliant here is that he pointed out the things that shows how it can’t work even in their TV expert fantasy world, BEFORE it is ever implemented.

        No centralized authority can ever have all of the information a market does, its information is not only limited it is dated, and even if the centralized authority lucks into a valid insight about the economy a centralized authority can’t use that insight to efficiently scale up the economy based on that insight like the market does.

        1. He is echoing the opinions F. A Hayek in his book, ” The Road to Serfdom” (1944). Hayek published the book and made the exact same points that Milei is using right now. To be fair, Milei is a very good economics teacher and leader because he is able to get the point across.

          I would say the smug looks of his panel members demonstrate that they do not agree or dismiss his points completely. He is fighting an uphill battle on that panel.

          Still, good work for him to be making these points in public. You would be hard pressed to have these comments ever displayed on the CBC.

        Once a settlement gets any bigger than a commune (community, communism), things start to fall apart for the reasons stated. Once that stage occurs, you spend more productivity on the un/non productive than the productive, that becomes the “tipping point” in just about any civilization..

  4. According to Statista, Milei still had a popularity rating of 60% in November after all he has done in Argentina. If accurate, that is testimony to a remarkably efficient and successful communications effort.

    If a basket case such as Argentina can react positively to a leader who has the balls to tell the truth as he sees it, is there hope for Canada?

    Until we get such a leader, we’ll never know. Is Pierre P. capable of rising to the challenge? He’s making some noises that are promising. He’s becoming semi-credible on the ‘defund the CBC’ thing although the definition of ‘defund’ is not as clear as one would like.

    That’s the kind of issue that could unite the majority of Canadians. That, and getting rid of government departments a la Milei.

      Unfortunately, I do not believe so. I hope I’m wrong, but I just don’t see it. The only way he pulls this off is if he’s playing his cards awfully close to his chest. As an establishment politician I find that unlikely.

      We need a politician w/ a bit of fire in him/her. PP has about as much zing as a plate of wet noodles.

        Agreed, DB. Poilievre lost me when he announced his support for the despicable ‘supply management’ of the Quebec dairy cartel that keeps the price of Canadian dairy and poultry products about *three times higher* than the American prices, and for voting to accuse all Canadians of ‘genocide’ because some people 100 years ago decided that native kids should be given an education. He’s Liberal Lite, to me. He talks a good game, for sure…but I just can’t bring myself to trust him now.

        1. Fred, his entire campaign todate seems to be, “I’m not as bad as Trudeau”. While that may be true, there’s not much substance otherwise. He’s talking about defunding MotherCorpse to a point (which may save as much as a billion $$), but we need cuts in the hundreds of billions. I’ve heard nothing else to that end. And, I agree about Supply Management. He’s also not mentioned much, if anything, about the Coof restrictions, lockdowns, bank account seizures or any other part of the protests, including those charged.

A guy who spent his entire adult life in Ottawa working in all the backrooms, and was never really heard from until he shot and released a whole bunch of videos of him asking financial questions, but providing no answers? A guy who brought in Brown and Charest to obscure and hide his real competition, Leslyn Lewis because it was feared she would win? A guy who, despite others saying it not so, was with the WEF like Singh and Trudeau. This guy is going to rise to the challenge?

      This guy was installed, and will be the next controlled PM by the globalists.

        It’s looking that way, for sure. I particularly despise the way we are continually scolded that any alternative is “far-right” or “extreme-right” while also being coerced by the tired old, “You don’t want Trudeau to get back in, do you? Voting for Poilievre is the ONLY way to defeat him!” ” Any other vote is a wasted vote!” “The perfect is the enemy of the good!” (etc, etc…)

        Not falling for it, sorry.

  7. Re-reading Frederic Bastiat’s “The Law,” written in 1850 but applicable now; he says the same, humans playing God.
    Succeeding themselves, while society fails, with no other result possible, content to rule over the ashes.
    The problem is when they, inevitably, become the state themselves, so they become amoral, like the state itself.

  9. The truth is the truth. If we could figure out why the human condition still allows us to desire to be led rather than letting our own personal agency set the course, we’d be in a better place.

    1. Laziness and stupidity as in when someone offers to give you something for nothing, you want to believe it in two ways. You get something and you don’t have to do anything to get it. And you don’t think any further ahead. Socialism is the redistribution of wealth from the people who earned it to the people who convince the rest of us that the wealth created actually belongs to us.

  10. It’s no accident Canada is unable to provide the talent necessary to clean the Augean stable; the pool of political candidates is small, therefore so will be the outcome. The Left stacks the deck against all but their political party, which means much heavier effort and involvement is required. The answer is yes, we’ll “get such a leader” but only when a large portion of our population seeks public office for little to no pay while staring down extreme resistance. Waiting for a leader to appear is not a plan.

  13. GUARANTEED he has read his Hayek and Mises. And more than once.
    You almost never — well, never — hear a pol today discussing the extremely wide dispersal of information that is not available to any one person, no matter how high the IQ, or a committee, even a large one, of certified geniuses. This is perhaps the root cause of so much resentment and disgruntlement in academia.

    AND his extreme enthusiasm suggests that his epiphany is relatively recent. I’ve been steeped in Hayek and Mises for about 3 decades but my enthisiasm flagged bigly as I concluded that I’d never see it in my lifetime. I gave Milei zero chance. Thrilled I was wrong.

    Let us see.

    Number one, it is evil, antihuman, totalitarian dicktatorship (sic) in disguise of being generous.
    Remember the immortal words of the lady, it is generous until it runs out of other people’s money.
    The economy is centrally planned, it degenerates without fail. Every socialist run country failed. Miserably.
    Current socialist run countries have been and are going from, bad to worse.
    It is mind boggling that after socialism of some 40+ years the Cuban people still live in relative poverty.
    How so?
    Venezuela is another project by the socialists, going from bad to worse over 20 years, if the did not have oil they would be eating rocks.
    How so?
    How do I know? Grew up into adulthood in socialism, did not starve, though was hungry many, many a time.
    To get out of the morass that Argentina got into over may years, it will take time to create wealth where nobody is used to work. Heh, Canadian bureaucracy comes to mind.
    Milei is energetic and enthusiastic to get his program working, though as you can imagine, there are sinister powers and individuals with connections that are working every day, seems that those characters get to work when the gravy train comes to the end station, to put roadblock on the road.
    One wishes him all the best in his endeavor. With great effort, energy, work, struggle and unfortunately hardship, it can be done.
    Perhaps, just to show the socialist minded people in the ‘free’ world how it’s done.
    Hey, if life was easy, everybody would be a bureaucrat on the easy street.
    You gotta struggle to enjoy the sweet taste of success.

  16. Milei can say this in Argentina and get away with it because that country has seen first-hand the ravages of socialism and every kind of bleeding edge central planning trying to keep it afloat. Once you have had to use a wheelbarrow to take your money to the grocery store because of long term runaway inflation I expect you get a bit skeptical about smart-ass leftists claiming this time their interference in the economy will work.

    Milei can point to peoples’ lived experiences with the failures of socialism and planning in a discussion in Argentina in a way that isn’t as widely felt or believed in Canada, yet. But we’re getting there.
