Global- What to know as Purolator, UPS freeze shipments amid Canada Post strike
These suspensions on top of the nationwide Canada Post strike are leaving Canadians with fewer and sometime more expensive options during the busy holiday shopping season.
Last week, the U.S. Postal Service also temporarily suspended Canada-bound mail due to the Canada Post strike.

My wife just received a text message from ‘Canada Post’ apologizing for the inconvenience for the strike followed by an offer of $25 as a gesture of goodwill. “To safely deposit your money click on the link below.”
It doesn’t take long for someone to create a scam to rip off unsuspecting people.
I hate this country… Specifically this country’s current government.
I’m expecting a critical package needed for my move to Alberta, and the package is being held up in transit.
Trump… You can’t send in the troops fast enough.
My 5-year driver’s licence expired in November. I applied for a new one in early November. The Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) agent issued me a temporary licence, and told me the permanent one would be mailed. Then the strike happened.
I NEED the permanent licence because I’m going overseas before the end of December for 6 weeks, and doubt I’ll be able to rent a car at destination with a temp licence.
Called, emailed, and messengered the SGI head office in Regina. Didn’t hear back from them for 3 days. They had no contingency plan to send out issued licences. They told me I could have it couriered for $40.
Why couldn’t they courier the issued licences in bulk to the local SGI office, say once a week, to help people out?
Because that would be sensible
UPS or USPS? There is a difference.
Both fail.
Yes there is. We got a parcel delivered by UPS yesterday. They charged us 60 bucks in ‘brokerage fees’ on a parcel worth about 40 bucks. USPS doesn’t do that. That money is on top of whatever the shipper had to pay.
UPS is still delivering; USPS apparently is not.
Ups is notorious for charging brokerage fees basically these days to scan a barcode. I always tell shippers not to Ups. If they say it’s policy I tell them they just lost a sale.
Runkle of the Bailey fought the brokerage fees and won.

Someone – please! – tell me why, in 2024, the post office still exists and why hasn’t someone (Elon Musk?) put this doddering anachronism out of its misery?
talk to unionboy on that.
’40 for 30′.
ye gawds NEVER going to forget that emblazoned on the auto wrecker’s fence .
it was east of st catharines near south end, thorold up on top of the escarpment.
late 70s/early 80s iirc.
it was a call for ’40 hours pay for 30 hours work’ during pit bull jean claude parrot’s time as union boss.
and told me everything l needed to know about CUPW.
CUP W, would that be a bra size? You know for big…….
The courier companies are being overwhelmed due to having successful business models. Nice problem to have.
Was in Staples yesterday for an Amazon return, and the shipping lines were busy. 2 Purolator trucks and 2 UPS trucks in their parking lot tells a story.
Here’s to a downsized, if not non-existent post office. Too many deadbeats getting paid far, far too much. The union overplayed its hand. Keep them out until next summer or longer to teach them a permanent lesson.
We. Don’t. Need. Them.
Canada Post owns majority shares in Purolator,
91% in fact..
Let’s hope Canada Post gets working again ahead of Kwanza 2024 … Dec. 26 … or at least by Ramadan, Mar. 1, 2025
Just leave Canada Post workers out until they beg to return for only a 10 % pay reduction. I get very little mail and can do without any.
FedEx is getting almost double the cargo they normally get in Calgary.
Casual workers are getting full time hours.
