Wokemart

Robbie Starbuck strikes again; Walmart is ending their woke policies. I can now exclusively tell you what’s changing and how it happened.

  1. The Lotus Eaters were discussing this today on their podcast. Their consensus was that Walmart may be changing their rhetoric, but that wokeness at Walmart and other companies isn’t going away without a longer fight.

I couldn’t help but think that the government and infuential companies always engage in a public peformance in which companies sing whatever political song is being sung. When the song changes, companies dutifully sing the new tune.

I remember being told as a new hire at Walmart 12 years ago that Walmart was committed to relying 100% on renewable energy resources by 2022. I almost laughed in the face of the person telling me this because it was around that same time that Germany had announced it was giving up on big wind and solar projects because they never produced as much energy as they promised. If Germany couldn’t make renewable resources work, how could a company, even one as big as Walmart, make them work? Absurd.

Fast forward to today. Walmart, after arriving later to the woke party than many other companies, announces it is shifting its stance as the political winds have changed. The real question is what precisely compels companies to sing the political tunes. Is there coercion being exerted by the financial sector? Are the denizens of the commanding heights just virtue signalling? Is there an information bubble that corporate decision makers live in that is disconected from that of corporate customers?

  3. Before I retired, my company started the DEI mandatory bologna. Very painful. I was so thankful I could retire, which I did. Years later now, seeing this might be over, I can’t imagine how thankful the people are who still have to be “trained” on this garbage. What a waste of company time and expenses promoting the nonsense.
