  1. I used to think Hunger Games was some kind of girly flic. Over the years since it’s release I’ve come to realize how prophetic it was.

    1. When the first Hunger Games movie came out, my sister and I both commented that the Coastal elites who lived in large urban centers “hated” the various peoples of the interior – the farmers, the miners, the forestry. Even the televised proceedings of the Hunger Games and the bizarre costumes and make-up of the “elites” is true to form in both Canada and the United States. The contrast is now even more pronounced.

      1. It’s kind of become a modern-day 1984. I think the problem is that the elites were framed as being more right than left, but that might just be my takeaway from the movies. The fact that the right can pick up on it kind of lends it to a more universal message than the author/creators may have intended.
