  1. Total sales of $33B. There’s that number. You have to be an idiot to get on ozempic or trust the pharma industry.

  2. And one for you and two for me.. It should be of no surprise that free food provides money for more important things.. A program so big, that it can tell any story you want.. That’s when you know government doesn’t belong..

  3. Easy reform, only allow the purchase of base ingredients on the food stamps: flour, beans, rice, ground beef, government cheese, etc.

    Never going to fly though.

    1. I work at a grocery store. Familiar with the different types of aid. you’re absolutely right.
The unlimited debit cards need to change. Currently the only things a person can’t buy with the standard ebt debit card are alcohol and tobacco. Our store tried to block a few things like large quantities of Rogaine, heartburn pills, tooth whitening strips, hair dye, red bull. but legal said no go.

There is a separate WIC “wemin ‘n chilluns”
program for single mothers that only allows very specific items. Milk, eggs, cereal in specific sizes. Everybody hates it. Constant arguments with cashiers over what’s approved.

  4. The soda is a scam that launders food stamps. Recipients buy cases of pop and “return them” / sell them back to the store for cash. Which they then buy drugs with. Usually the same store too.

Some stores in the South have been selling the same cases of pop for years. Also why poor people always have cases of pop stacked up. They don’t drink it.

    1. That’s an easy one to stop. No cash without a receipt that says you paid cash. Store credit gift card if it won’t go back on the original card or no receipt.

I think a lot of stuff ends up on ebay

  5. I’ve told my relatives in Regina (the city which rhymes with fun) that prior to WW2 about 1/3 of new signups in the military were rejected for being too underweight, whereas now, 1/3 of the new signups are rejected for being too overweight and I don’t even know how far off the accuracy I am on this, but it’s a totally believable factoid.

  6. Sadly … there’s no such thing as Food Stamps anymore. Nope. Now there are only EBT cards … that swipe like credit cards … therefore … being on welfare is shameless now.

I don’t want to beat up on people when they’re down … and as a Foster kid who spent time in subsidized homes … I have had some skin in the welfare game … but I’m not certain it is helpful to make welfare shameless. It should bother all otherwise capable adults that they’re being carried by productive citizens who work hard for their livings.

  7. food stamps fall under the US farm bill,
you can bet there is a big lobby to keep soda(water and high fructose CORN syrup) on the menu. Same with ketchup, a listed vege for school programs
