Zerohedge- “Millions” Wasted On Electric School Busses As Maryland Pivots Back To Diesel

Since entering into a $168 million contract for the buses, MCPS has faced significant delays, WTOP reports. Dozens of buses scheduled for fiscal year 2022 arrived only after Christmas, instead of at the start of the school year as required.

The report also highlighted mechanical and charging failures, which rendered many buses inoperable for extended periods. From February 2022 to March 2024, buses failed to complete routes 280 times, with repairs taking an average of 13 days, and more than half exceeding five working days, according to WTOP.

    An electric school bus costs about $400k (and the manufacturer seems to have lost money on each one)

    1. The county council has 11 seats, all filled by Democrats. So, maybe all of them, or maybe none of them. The last time a Republican was on the council was in 2006. (And the last time a Republican was County Executive was 1978.)

    1. I hope it has a diesel engine on board to run the pumps for 10-12 hours at a warehouse fire.

      On the bright side, fire engines usually don’t travel far so even in cold weather they probably have enough range. But if they are also depending on the batteries for all the power fire engines need related to a fire, that probably won’t work so well.

      And then there’s that ‘uptime’ issue that plagued the school buses in the article. Why would fire engines be any different? And isn’t being ready to put out a fire a little bit more critical than a few kids being late for school while they wait for a working backup bus to come ’round?

      But… handshakes, bonuses, little plaques all around. Everyone can feel good. That E-fire engine will prevent at a minimum, 0.0000000000000000000000000000037°C of Global Warming so long as China and India stop building coal-fired power plants. Otherwise, it’s just an expensive fart in a hurricane.

  4. Unfortunately once you’re elected you can be shit-stupid, corrupt and even criminal without repercussions. Once upon a time you’d be recalled or get the boot in the next election, but now people vote along strict party lines. Party politics is killing democracy.

  5. Toronto’s getting electric ferries for Toronto Island! Why not just run wires from the pier to the island and convert some streetcars to floaters??

    1. My bet is, for the money that will go down the toilet on electric ferries, they could build a bridge or causeway to the island for half the cost.

        Any bridge or causeway the kleptocrats build will cost 8 times more than budgeted and be 4 years late if it’s ever completed and if they ever stop throwing money at it.

        *sigh* Go ahead and blow the money on electric ferries, Toronto. The complete waste will cost the taxpayers less in the long run.

      2. Yes, they could build a bridge but the “squatters” who live on the islands don’t want to let mainlanders have easier access to the islands. They also want to limit access to Billy Bishop Airport and better yet, in their minds, eliminate it

    “We’ll Do it better and make it work”

    Which seems to be the scenario no matter where in North America one lives.
    School buses, Garbage Trucks, Fire Trucks (that one blew my mind…) for the past 4-5 yrs have ALL Been colossal FAILURES.

    I think I said it 10+ yrs ago. EV’s = JUNK.
    To date Nothing has changed my outlook on this “Climate Change” Derived BS.

    And it damned well needs to STOP.

    We all know Its got SFA to do with Climate Per se, & everything to do with a select group of Genocidal NAZI filth Centered in Davos, Geneva, Eu Parliament & and wherever that Insane Asylum inmate, B. Gates is who wish to eliminate 95+% of the planets population of mostly Euro Centric folk in the Western Hemisphere.

    They ALL should be Designated as ENEMIES of HUMANITY, hunted down and Liquidated.

  9. Again.. Transit is a up front (green) bad idea.. Its failure is in your face measurable.. I could own a EV and keep quiet about its shortcomings for a number of reasons.. But 300 children or 5000 commuters left stranded is impossible to hide no matter your politics.. = Fail..
