Garry Kasparov Resigns from Aspen Institute Commission, Compares it to Soviet Committee.
On April 22, 2021, the Aspen Institute — an influential civil society group that draws funding from several federal agencies and in recent years has become an odd hodge-podge of boutique-left ideas and hardcore security-state rhetoric — announced that a “Commission on Information Disorder” would be preparing a major report, one that: Aims to identify and prioritize the most critical sources and causes of information disorder and deliver a set of short-term actions and longer-term goals to help government, the private sector, and civil society respond to this modern-day crisis of faith in key institutions.

To restore faith in our institutions you will need to de-corrupt them by replacing all leadership with new vetted American patriots.
Good luck with that.
We’ve gone from a high trust society to a low trust society fairly quickly because information became more widely available, and it’s largely been shown that the institutions were not worthy of trust, since they don’t share the important values enshrined in our constitutions that is supposed to restrain them.
I’m at no trust.
I was that way long before there were computers.
Gary has 5D TDS.
Kasparov has trust in the kgb. So no point in listening to him.
The kgb used cia economic reports and forecasts for russia and presented them to the ptb in russia as facts.
When did kasprov become a reliable political mouthpiece?
I, too have trust in the KGB. I trust the KGB to always do whatever they believe will maintain the KGB’s power and influence in Russia and, so long as they are successful in that, to promote what they see as Russia’s interests.
(It is not peculiarly Russian that the people who believe they know and want what is best for their country tend to believe that they themselves are what is best for their country.)
Trump’s new fury has been directed at his latest claim that the FBI planted a mole in his campaign, and he ordered the Justice Department to investigate. Last year, he claimed that the Obama administration had ordered the FBI to wiretap meetings in Trump Tower. There is no evidence that happened.
Just curious … when did the Huffington Post finally retract this story with an apology to Trump for calling Trump’s claim … “misinformation”? When did the HuffPo finally admit Trump’s “conspiracy theory” … was TRUTH and FACT?
Kasparov was a big hero when he was slamming Putin, now that he points out that the West is no better, he’s KGB scum.
Kasparov has only been a chess hero, not an intellectual hero, to me. I have always just wished he’d shut up and play the game, rather like many loud-mouthed sportsmen and women.
This is why I follow SDA. I would never have come across this important item but for SDA. Good work Kate and all of you.
The Aspen Institute is in Washington D.C. and Aspen Colorado. So chessmaster/geopolitical commentator lives in the west. Not a surprise.
I might listen to him before de niro, but take with a grain of salt.
I agree that misinformation is a serious problem. I see so much easily refutable nonsense on the web. The question is how do we address that while preserving full freedom of speech. Certainly having the government, press, or social media giants decree what is true or not is a cure worse than the disease, and I think that’s Kasporov’s take as well.
One of the best solutions against misinformation is to get people hearing all sides of the argument. But on the internet, people tend to flock to those views they want to believe, and ignore — or actively try to purge — any rebuttal. They build a hermetically sealed wall around their beliefs, safely surrounded by like-minded people.
Is misinformation a serious problem? How would I know? I am reliably informed that I’m reliably informed. But I have to believe it. I’m in no position to establish certain truth. Often I have to smile and be blind. Fortunately, I’m good at doing both.
