National Bankruptcy

I personally know some people who would choose to be a care-giver to their XBox if the math of Universal Basic Income worked out for them. In all likelihood, it would do so in many cases. At least enough to send us over the cliff into default and an inflationary currency collapse.

Sen. Kim Pate and NDP MP Leah Gazan introduced bills S-233 and C-223, respectively, in a bid to create the first national framework to provide all people over age 17 across Canada, including temporary workers, permanent residents and refugee claimants, a guaranteed livable basic income.

Based on Ontario’s basic income pilot project, the Parliamentary Budget Officer estimated that the basic gross cost of guaranteed basic income(opens in a new tab) nationally would range between $30.5 billion and $71.4 billion from November 2020 to March 2021…

  1. There is a small problem. The guy who gets up at 2:47 am to scrape the poop off the intake valve of your city-wide clogged sewage system is the first person who will apply for UBI. And he will master the Xbox. But the toilets…

    1. Honestly, for your average working stiff, when it gets to the point where the government scrapes away basically everything you earn over and above your monthly handout, why would you even bother?

  2. Move the water line.. The idea that government can deliver contentment is absurd.. We will come for the scht we don’t have .. Bank on it..

  3. not a shred of incentive even to be judicious with what little money they have subsistence is the name of the game and theyre better at it then us.

  4. SO the government plans to give the indolent money for nothing, and expects a different outcome to what already happens on various reserves in canada where they give out money for nothing, and the results are drug and alcohol addiction, and poverty.

  5. Your right there is no end to kids that expect something for nothing and never learn life isn’t about just showing up, you’d be wise to do some work and give it some meaning.
But that’s the last thing the left wants to teach a child.
    And it’s starting to show.
They want to do something give hard working young people a chance at something they can afford to buy and payoff.
That would be a start. But would require to much thinking.

    1. “your” should be “you’re”. “to much” should be “too much”. Did you actually get through Grade 2 ?

  6. This is all about giving permanent pogey or unemployment insurance to the slackers, of whom there are many.
And doing so on the backs of the motivated who want to make their way, who face taxes and barriers at every turn.
Case in point. I just hired some motivated young dudes to renovate my kitchen. They were all, to a man, hard working dudes who are investing in tools, insurance, tool trailers, kids, and nice trucks, and they all were fine young guys.
I paid one of them “under the table” so as to save some taxes, and he opined that the taxes would get him despite that idea.
My hatred of the current government, grew yet again. I felt sorry for the young tradesmen who deal with this shite. Oh, and we talked about stuff, and these guys know and feel like freedom truckers.
    FOOK the WACKO.
    Have a nice day.

    1. Well, here we go. i’ve been waiting for this. And they get the full on commies to introduce it.. Every mooch on the planet will come knocking and vote for this. Trying to get 16 year olds the vote didn’t fly, but this will.

  7. I’ll stop working the minute they pay me not to work. I like my job and make good money, but if they are going to tax even more of it away to give to people who don’t work, I’ll be one of those who doesn’t work. Either that or I’ll leave Canada.

    1. Rusty, the law of diminishing returns makes it pointless to continue attempting fill the government trough.

      1. You can be sure that the huge funds of the Canada Pension Plan and UIC will be rolled into the funding that will support the leeches that want to avail themselves of government freebies financed by OPM/other peoples money

  8. Basically, yet another Liberal scheme to take $$$ from solvent tax-payers to pay for unneeded immigrants and all their family reunification cousins, fake refugees and criminals who snuck across our borders.

My housekeeper has 90 cousins here, legally. At least the ones I know are fluent in English.

  9. I’m coming up to 70 years old have never ever relied on the government to support me.
    Am i wrong?
