The Part I Like Best

About “safer supply” is how it reduces consumption and gets addicts into treatment.

A significant amount of safer supply opioids are obviously being diverted to the black market, but some influential voices are vehemently downplaying this problem.

They often claim that there are simply too few safer supply clients for diversion to be a real issue. But this argument is misleading because it glosses over the fact that these clients receive truly staggering amounts of narcotics relative to everyone else. […]

Just five years ago, the street price of an eight-mg hydromorphone tablet was around $20 in major Canadian cities – now they often go for as little as $1. But advocates repeatedly emphasize that, even if such diversion is occurring, it must be a minor issue because there are only a few thousand safer supply clients in Canada.

They believe that it is simply impossible for such a small population to have a meaningful impact on the overall black market for diverted pharmaceuticals, and that the sudden collapse of hydromorphone prices must have been caused by other factors.

Nothing is ever their fault.

  1. We need to (1) reduce the number of addicts, and (2) reduce the harm that any one addict does to themselves and others.

To achieve that, we must follow the evidence wherever it leads, free of political predispositions. But I have no faith that’s going to happen. There are too many ideologues committed to a cause on this issue, and they’re likely to only make matters worse.

  2. Thank God for Naloxone, otherwise we’d run out of redistributors and the network would collapse.

  3. It’s getting out of hand! These days we’re seeing opioids at Ron Howard lookalike contests!

  4. If you follow the money, you get your answers.

It’s not about the well being of anybody, it is about the keeping the free money supply.
    Period.
You may not agree with that, though it is a fact.
Many, as in large numbers, those that supply the drugs or the alternatives have to account that if they did any good, they would lose the money supply.
    Rather simple reality.

  5. Free dope ghettos for societies’ screw-ups does for drug rehabilitation what Indian Reserves and entitlements do for their work ethic.

  6. 4450 “safer supply” clients, times 14 pills a day equals 62,300 pills per day being dumped onto the street in exchange for better (i.e. illegal) drugs.

Only take 33 days to put out the same number of pills as the last “big drug bust” in vancouver, but this one runs 365 days a year.

  7. If people wanted to reduce the number of addicts and the subsequent harm they do to themselves and others, they’d destroy the drug trade and execute those involved.

    The results would be immediate.

If one instead wanted to profit from addicts while weakening society and stealing from the productive at the same time, they’d set-up needles-for-junkies programs and lie about them being helpful.

  8. The failed BC experiment, is solely based on Hopium, mollycoddling and dysfunctional mothering.
Co-dependency. This is a well known condition of those who think that more assistance to coverup the addicts foibles, and remove negative circumstances will magically cure the addict.
There is a group out here, the Mothers of dead addicts, that has a heavy influence on policy. They should not be listened to for any advice, as they are the worst co-dependents.
Only an addict can decide to change, not a smothering mommy, not a virtue signalling socialist bureaucracy. Rock bottom is required, that is prevented by this obscene drug assistance strategy in BC. The deaths will only continue and grow with this boneheaded, bleeding heart nonsense. The worst offender being that emotional cripple, Bonnie Mengele!

Have you ever seen any of their TV ads?

They should a normal middle aged guy sitting at a table or desk, and start showing captions (one at time):

      Husband.
      Father.
      Accountant.
      Little League coach.
      Drug addict.

In other words, a TOTALLY NORMAL guy, according to them. A disgusting attempt to normalize drugs and drug addiction, according to me. That’s how they try to manipulate public opinion.

      1. Fred, my moniker says BC, so yes, I’m well aware of the nauseating socialist propaganda pushed incessantly on the book tube. The only thing I want from the ENDP is their termination.
” Life is expensive, how can Muh government help?”
“I need a new job, how can muh government retrain me?”
        Nannystate lemmings….propaganda.

          You and me both, brother….

      2. “They should a normal middle aged guy”

No, they They SHOWED a normal middle aged guy.

(my fault…I type too fast and rely on the spell checker to correct stuff too much)

  9. Normal stuff:
Liberals: Let the gov’t provide it all.
Conservatives: Let the free market provide it all.
Libertarians: Let the free market provide it all.
Libs reaction to libertarians: You want kids to starve!
    Cons reaction to libertarians: OK.

    Guns:
    Liberals: Ban them all.
    Conservatives: “Common sense” gun control.
Libertarians: Let the free market provide it all.
Cons and Libs reaction to libertarians: You must love school shootings!

    Drugs:
Liberals: Let the gov’t provide it all.
    Conservatives: Ban them all.
Libertarians: Let the free market provide it all.
Cons and libs reaction to libertarians: You want kids to take drugs!

Proof positive that Conservatives are just Liberal light.

  10. The anti humanist policies imposed by corrupt far leftist politicians and their bureaucrats is having exactly the result that they hoped for, failure to most is success to these anti human parasites.
They want to enable drug addicts, not help them… they want them dead… so… success.
Anyone who thinks that by giving drugs to drug addicts will help them is either a fool or a psychopath.
    Pretty simple.
These are the same corrupt Governments that just imposed an experimental and deadly medical procedure on a perfectly healthy populace.
The drug enabling program is psychopathic anti humanism.

  11. the reason this and any utopian solution has always and will always fail, for anything whatsoever to occur invariably enormous numbers of things have to be true. many by coincidence, many by design, many outcomes random many outcomes traceable to the mandarins.
but the schema FAIL because the proponents FAIL to control at least the vital aspects.

  12. Something not mentioned is the ‘dosage’ being provided. My wife died of cancer 2 years ago and hydromorphone was the drug of choice for controlling her pain.

Her prescribed dosage was 2 mg, four times daily. Meanwhile, we’re providing at taxpayer cost , 8 mg tablets with multiples of her quantity.

I mean what’s the use of ‘ safer supply’ unless it allows you to zombify your existence?

  13. ..it’s all about reducing welfare costs by letting the useless eaters kill themselves off…
