Manitoba’s NDP government is doing something that’s seemingly out of character: they’ve slashed a spending item by 50%. The opposition Tories are critical of that move, but for the wrong reasons. If they were real conservatives, they would demand to know why the government stopped at a 50% cut.
The provincial government has set funding for park-related capital investments at $6.8 million in its first budget, delivered Tuesday. That’s down from about $12.7 million last year, when the PCs were in power.
“It’s obvious this government doesn’t value parks, the experiences they provide or the tourism dollars they bring to the province,” [Conservative MLA] Nesbitt said during question period.
The MLA for Riding Mountain told reporters later on Thursday that Manitobans and other visitors to the province’s parks will all be disappointed by the funding cuts.

“Plans for a future supervised drug consumption site in Winnipeg are becoming clearer following the release of the Manitoba budget.
The NDP government has set aside $2.5 million for a site in the North Main Street area of Winnipeg.”
This is where some of the savings went to.
Parks aren’t safe enough sites to shoot up so they’ll be replaced by drug consumption sites. Think of the children and think of all the jobs for some NDP supporters
Riding Mtn is a national park.
Best value is the regional-local park for camping. Some are free loading.
There are some really exceptionally nice campgrounds in places like McCreary, Kelwood, Ste Rose du Lac, that are much nicer than the noisy and high traffic campground in Wasagaming proper. You have add an hour of driving to get into the park itself but it’s well worth it. I stayed at the Wasagaming campground once. Traffic all night long and crowds from Winnipeg.
RMNP is Brandonite country, the place is lousy with Wheat Kings license plates.
Stop, you’re making me nostalgic.
“It’s obvious this government doesn’t value parks, the experiences they provide or the tourism dollars they bring to the province,”
It’s Manitoba. The only tourists in Manitoba are lost. There is absolutely nothing worth seeing.
You never get past the perimeter I take it.
Justin, that’s just scar running his mouth as he always does.
Worst 3 years of my life. Winnipeg was likely a nice city before Schreyer became commissar. The old ruins on Main St. are quite impressive. Strange how they nationalized their inferiority complex.
I can’t afford to drive past the perimeter.
Put the money into the highways. They are terrible. In jurisdictions everywhere. Except when getting close to provincial and state capitals.
“Conservatives”. What a farce. This is in the same category as scheer-the-steer pointing out that turdo had neglected the charities when he was shoveling out CERB and related piss-aways.
Do we really need $6 million worth of Yurts?
The Uniparty NDP and Uniparty PC’s are just having a tickle fight to make it look like they are on opposing teams. But their not.
