  1. OMG. Is the battery plant commitment $30 billion? I knew it was high. I nearly fell off my chair when I saw that figure. What were these people thinking?

    2. The Turd gave Volkswagen $13.8 billion to build their battery plant here which VW immediately cashed then they slashed their EV production by 50%. Stellantis (Chrysler) had Ontario and the feds on the hook for $10 billion, $5B from each, then started crying about the feds VW deal and demanded the same so the Turd ponied up and $5B. $28.5 Billion for 2 plants only 1 of which is currently under construction.

      What were they thinking? Well, the Turd has been in office for 9 years now and has promised many, many times that he’s going to build a “Green” economy and like his tree planting pledge he hasn’t produced a single “Green” job so he decided to buy them instead. Money no object mainly because he doesn’t have to pay for it himself.

  3. Ford took the money from Ford to retool the plant, but there is nothing to build for that plant, because no one is buying the existing electric vehicles, and there isn’t a market for a 3 row electric SUV, and as usual the Unitards are up in arms, because their members are getting screwed.

    It does show that Ford Motor is learning, I’m not sure we can say the same about the other Ford.

    Translation: The delay will give the government more time to regulate ICE vehicles out of existence, regulate oil refineries out of existence…and coordinate a pricing on EV’s that match that of existing ICE vehicles (not by lowering EV prices, but by massively increasing ICE vehicle prices).

    1. It’s not necessary for the government to regulate ICE vehicles. All they have do is get the factories closed resulting in fewer ICE vehicles being built. As a result, the proportion of EVs will appear to increase allowing them to say how successful the change is. Another feature is that the total number cars (fewer ICE and minimal EVs) will result in less cars on the road fullfiling another wet dream of hindering personal mobility. This is not a simple plan. The goal is to keep people under control in their 15 minute ghettos.

      Translation: Ford has recognized that there is no EV market or functional EV designs, and the three year delay will allow the government to be defeated, EV dictates to be scaled down (read turfed), and allow Ford to renegotiate the subsidy to support their ICE divisions that people will buy and that Ford can make money on. Good development.

    3. I wonder when or if there will be intelligent people who just plain to refuse to do what idiots in government tell them to do? The government says close your refinery and you say no. The government says no more i c e vehicles and you say no. The government borrows money to give to others and you have to pay, you say no. I realize that is a simplistic way of looking at things but hey, if more say no than don’t the result is freedom and prosperity.

  11. There are plenty of good used ICE cars for sale. The cheapest EV for sale is the Chevy Bolt for $41,000. You can buy a used Honda/Toyota/Mercedes in excellent condition for half that and spend the $21,000 you saved on maintenance to keep it running forever.
    I predict waiting lists at auto repair shops in the future as people avoid going electric and that used ICE cars will increase in value if new ones are banned.

    Canada can kiss auto assembly, auto parts, auto partial assembly, and manufacturing goodbye. Mexico is the new Canada (as it has been for over 15 years) in the automotive industry.

    You just have to remember that the pipeline was supposed to cost under ten billion, six or seven, well, look where we are now. The only good part in the whole scheme is that it may pay for itself in few hundred years, if ever.
    The billions for the car batteries is just a start, watch for billions and billions, as Sagan would say, that the car companies will suck like gorillas sucking on their mothers milk.

  18. EVs, the next big thing for the last 150 years. Government / politicians picking winners and throwing borrowed money at them – always a disaster. Combine the two and you have wealth destruction on an industrial scale. Nothing viable will come of any of it.

  19. Don’t feel too sorry for the workers. The wife of a friend of mine works at that plant and she along with her coworkers have all been placed on leave…at 60% of their salary.
    So, they aren’t working but they are still collecting more than half of their salary.
    My friend decided to retire early and now he and his wife spend much of their time travelling.
    My friend says that Ford is hoping that Trudeau will be replaced and the mandate for EVs is dropped.
