  1. If there is a next election and the Cons win a majority, I’m not holding my breath waiting for PP to give financial MAID to the CBC.

  2. Re CBC to promote EVs, and the headline from the linked article:

“CBC praises EVs as “best vehicle” as Alberta deals with extreme cold”

There is no one, best vehicle. Full stop.

Name any vehicle and proclaim it the “best” and I’ll give you a “Yah but” and point to another vehicle that does what that Best Vehicle can’t do very well or at all. If you want to have the best vehicle, you’re gonna need a bigger garage for the six or seven or more different vehicles that are best for particular circumstances.

Idle question just popped into my mind. When the next Carrington-type event occurs, and there will be one at some point, how will EVs fare? Without going and searching, my WAG would be “Not very well”. Model Ts, with crank start would probably be largely unaffected. *sigh* Yet another “best” vehicle for that ever-expanding garage.

    1. Well, I can tell ya’ electric vehicles are NOT the best vehicle in severe cold – but of course it’s the CBC saying it, so you all know to do the exact opposite of what they recommend, eh!

Denninger explains how they (don’t) work. Lithium batteries won’t let you charge them below 0°C – at least, the big ones won’t; the small ones will, and it costs them most of their power capacity on-the-spot (says the voice of experience…) The battery shuffles ions back-and-forth between the anode and the cathode, depending on whether it’s charging or being used; all rechargeable batteries do this. But lithiums below zero, shuffle actual lithium metal back to the anode, and it plates it with metal and fills-in the pores, blocking them – and then the anode can’t produce nearly as much electricity from then on; the effect is permanent, it’s not reversible.

“But WAIT – there’s MORE!” A lot of the big lithium batteries are flat, thin foil-wrapped packets; only the little ones look like big AA’s. When the lithium metal plates the anode, it grows dendrites – tiny, wickedly sharp spikes. If these reach the foil wrapping, they pierce it and air gets into the wrapping, and the lithium catches fire. If they reach through the wrapping to the neighbouring cell, they short the two cells out and the whole battery catches fire. Wanna’ charge something like that in your garage? – I sure as @%#$@%! don’t!

So car batteries use electricity to keep themselves warm – and in the dead of a prairie winter, they use a LOT of electricity for it. When you plug-in your electricar, it first has to warm-up the battery above 0°C before it will allow itself to start charging – it does this for your protection, as fiery explosions in your daily driver are MURDER for brand-recognition (and other stuff). And if there’s no charger available where you’re parked – or the charger fails – or the grid is overdrawn and browns-out – or you’re on the I-95 during a big storm and the traffic just stops and you’re stuck there for a couple of days, your car will heat its battery with its remaining power until it runs out of juice, and then you’ve got a brick. Hopefully a rollback can get to it and hopefully they can resuscitate your battery, or you could be featured in one of those “$60,000 for a new battery” headlines.

Now tell me again, CBC, what makes an EV “the best car” for prairie winters? “Well there’s lots of heat” – suuUUuure there is, as long as you’re plugged-in and have nowhere to go.

      What a load of tripe!

      1. If EV’s were the “best vehicle”…?

One wonders why Trudeau’s Massive Cavalcade is still utilizing ICE technology..?? I’m betting its the 2000 lbs of ablative reactive armour used per vehicle to protect that pissante.

Where they EV’s, their daily range in Summer with all that armour would likely be less than 80km.

        EV’s = Pure Garbage.
Until they can further miniaturize a nuke plant to fit under my hood…I’ll stick with fossil fuels.

      2. If EV were so wonderful why didn’t the Turd take EVs to the James Smith reserve a couple of winters ago?
        Asking for a friend

    2. Carrington event: the biggest recorded magnetic storm on the sun in 1850s.
there was a ‘mini’ one when USA popped off a nuke in space which knocked out communications in the south pacific including new zealand.
the EMP pulse is real and very little protections exist if we gat another PLUS since so much is digital now it will be crushing and very lethal.

  3. Just keep remembering it’s “The warmest year ever recorded according to the LEFT! Ha Minus -49 degree Celsius this morning windchill——–Bullshit even freezes at this temperature!

  4. My local Ford dealer told me they’re barely getting 150 kms from their new electric Mustang designed to go at least 400 km on a charge. ‘A work in progress’ they laughingly told me. BTW I spent my Climate Graft cheque on an oil change.

  5. Expiring copyrights? I’m waiting for the release of a new movie, Anne Does Green Gables. That would be a Canadian classic.

The Sp!ked article may appear to give credence to the Slippery Slope Argument however, please be assured that this is not the case. We always been at the bottom.

  7. The Mickey Mouse club swatted the LGBTQueerdom hard but good. Don’t fkcu with the Mouse you deviants.

  8. Re: Machiavellian Anarchists Interesting, so we have a cadre of professional protestors who can transfer from cause to cause depending on how it benefits them. So, no reason to make concessions that don’t make sense in the real world, they will still whine and protest.
Has anyone done a comparable study on our professional politicians? That would be a study worth reading.
