The strength of the inditements is meaningless when the courts are corrupt.
Judge Engoron in New York has already declared Trump guilty of fraud even before the trial started in the civil suit brought by NY AG Letitia James. Before the first witness, before any arguments were made, before any facts were presented.
Guilty! Verdict First! Trial Later!
They finished closing arguments last week in the penalty phase of the Trump trial, which was for $250 million dollars in damages when the trial began, which then suddenly became $371 million dollars in damages last week. (Biden Inflation is worse than we thought!)
I fully expect the judge to announce the verdict either early today, before the Iowa Caucuses start tonight; or tomorrow, Tuesday in an attempt to quash the victory Donald Trump will win in Iowa tonight.
That way? The big Donald Trump story in the news will be the $200-$300 Million Dollars in damages awarded to New York State, and the revocation of the business licenses for Trump Enterprises and other NY based Trump companies.
I have no doubt this will happen.
Quietly, and unreported by the media will be two stories. The first story will be the sentence is immediately stayed by the NY Court of Appeals, which has already stayed the guilty verdict by Judge Engoron, pending appeal.
The second story will take longer to develop. Multiple New York based companies and corporations will begin quietly investigating how to move themselves and their assets out of New York State. If they can no longer count on fair treatment of their businesses by the State and the Courts of New York, why should they remain in one of the highest tax states, with some of highest costs of doing business in the nation? Low tax Florida and Texas will welcome them and their BILLIONS of Dollars with open arms!
Even if the Guilty Verdicts and the Civil Penalties are upheld by the NY Court of Appeals? They will be appealed to the NY highest court, whatever they call it (since the lowest NY Court is “The Supreme Court of New York”); and if necessary to the US Supreme Court.
If for some reasons the NY Appeals Courts don’t overturn the verdicts against Trump and Trump Enterprises? Watch the number of corporations fleeing NY become a flood. Watch the tax receipts for New York State and New York City collapse even faster as all their corporate and executive tax sources disappear. NYS and NYC will be bankrupted, just like in the 1970’s.

We need a BDS movement for NY state. It is very foolish for Normies to invest in anything NY, given the level of corruption and anti business activity. A list of corporate HQs in NY would be helpful and a list of corporations that have fled NY.

If Trump did over-value his properties in NYC; and if property taxes are based on the value of the property; once the real value is determined, wouldn’t NYC owe him $$$ for overpayment of taxes?
No, this has nothing to do with appraisal for taxes, he is being charged with fraudulently obtaining bank loans by overvaluing his properties.
The joke is, the loans were paid in time so there was nobody defrauded, and a person from the bank testified that Trump’s valuations weren’t unreasonable and it didn’t matter anyway because nobody issues a loan based on the buyer’s opinion, the lender does their own valuation (and did with Trump’s properties before issuing the loans)
There is the assessed value (tax purposes) and the actual market value.
NY AG Letitia Jones said Mar A Lago was worth $75 million. Judge Engoron said the value of Mar A Lago was $18- 27 million, because that was about the assessment value. Trump said it was worth $736 million. Never mind Donald Trump bought it many years ago in 1985, when Florida real estate was comparatively cheap, and no one really wanted the property. He paid $8 million and another $2 million for some oceanfront property in front of it. It was huge, a 126-room, 62,500 sq ft (5,810 m2) mansion (on 17 acres of land). How many people would buy that in 1985? He paid $8 million plus $2 million for the oceanfront property in front of it.
Florida has laws that only allow real estate to be increased in assessed value by a few percent per year. This prevents senior citizens and people on fixed incomes from being driven out of their retirement homes by exorbitant increases in property taxes. California has something similar with Proposition 13(?). Therefore the assessed value of Mar A Lago is very low 35 years later.
When you sell your property, then the assessed value gets reset to the current market value, based on an actual sale.
A Tech Mega Billionaire has been buying up properties in Palm Beach recently, and has spent almost a billion dollars, about 900+ million dollars creating a similar 20 acre property as Mar A Lago out of small nearby properties. His conglomeration has no where near the history or cachet of Marjorie Post’s Mar A Lago estate, but it still cost almost a billion to create it. Does anyone think MAL is only worth 18 million, or 36 million or 75 million; or even 180 million in comparison?
By the way, DJT turned it into a private club in 1995 when he was having financial difficulties, and he needed cash flow. Southern Florida was very Democrat, but his private club at Mar A Lago was the first in Palm Beach to accept Blacks and Jews as members. Everything else was old line Democrat and Whites only.
And further … when a new project (the reason for Trump’s bank loans) goes thru the building permit process … a “valuation” is placed on the finished value of the property. That “valuation” is based on the building dept. jurisdiction’s policies. That “valuation” is FAR LESS than the true value of the property. If it wasn’t … building permits would be even LESS affordable than they already are.
The average Building Permit FEE here in N.CA for a 3,500 sq.ft. single family home is in the range of $30k – $40k including; city fees, and local school district developer fees. It’s utterly outrageous … and just part of why there is a housing shortage. Why? It’s called math. It’s unprofitable to build in anywhere but the wealthiest of areas in CA. And … then you need all the cheap, illegal, Mexican labor you can find at your local Home Depot parking lot.

Maybe that’s the whole point. While Trump wins in a Biden/Trump match-up, polls show that the voting public does not want either Trump or Biden. When either candidate is matched up against any unidentified candidate of the opposing party, they lose.
If I were a Democrat strategist I would do everything in my power to make sure that Trump wins the Republican primaries and switch Biden out at the last minute with almost any alternative candidate (i.e. any fence post with hair) will do.
I fear that Republicans have taken the bait.
