“Shockingly”.
Not to anyone w/ two brain cells to rub together.
EV’s a dead end branch on the automotive evolutionary tree.
Tried before and failed.
Get politicians out of energy and manufacturing.
Green energy is a fraud that is collapsing.
I don’t think the climate change Maoists (cultists) and associated grifters pushing this EV fiasco among other things, will go quietly into the night. If they can’t entice you voluntarily through bribing you with your own money, they will do it by force.
Expect new legislation in major urban centres to ban ICE vehicles in the near future. It will start in select targeted urban areas at first serviced by public transit, and if no significant pushback (elections throwing them all out) then it will expand slowly outwards to encompass everywhere.
And from what I’ve seen of the free stuff army, this trajectory we are on is unlikely to change soon.
I agree with force being applied. Directly as well as passively. Although, I’m of the mindset that the goal isn’t to get a majority of people in EV’s. I think the ultimate goal is to get people OUT of vehicles regardless of their engine type.
Fuel for ICE’s will be artificially inflated (and already is) to reflect costs approaching the purchase and operation of an EV. Fewer people can afford ICE vehicles…demand requires the industry to lower production, vehicles cost more, and more, and more. How can you interpret the full court press to limit drilling in the west any other way? When a democrat administration purposefully turns its back on a sure way to lower gas prices, stimulate the economy and assure re-election; there can only be ulterior motives at play, and it has nothing to do with climate change. Our power grid cannot handle a sudden massive increase in EV’s and yet the common theme of politicians and media is “sure it can.” The reason they are taking this approach is because increasing the capacity of the grid is a long term project that should have already started, and yet it hasn’t. So, switching everyone over to EV”s is not the plan…it is the excuse and the catalyst to destroy the ICE industry. Then you end up with non-mobile societies.
Then, there are the corporations which own over half of the farming lands across the US…(increasing significantly every day). Eventually, they will own the vast majority of the country’s food supply which they will give precedence to urban areas…forcing rural residents (who no longer have the convenience of personal transportation) to move to the urban areas.
And PRESTO!!!! Control of the rubes.
^^^ Bullseye! ^^^
They don’t want us mobile. All of this is part of the master plan to shut down our freedom.
It’s kind of like kettling. They corner us into a certain market by their messaging… to abandon what works, into something that doesn’t, so when they do decide to pull the plug, we all get screwed.
They’ve already admitted that private car ownership is “not sustainable” even after the switch to EV’s. That’s because of the resources needed to build the vehicles. The materials required are much limited in supply.
I think you’re all bang on the nail.
The 15 minute city is here.
Cameras everywhere.
Gates & scans. of Social Credit Cards.
Cashless society.
Limited energy.
Limited food.
Subsistence UBI.
A car, no matter how its powered, will be something the upper class and rich will have.
Here is where I ask again … in the greatest tradition of Socialist sloganeering … “Who killed the electric car?” Was it those evil Big Oil Robber Barons, as postulated by the “progressive” left? Hahahahahaha ha ha … NO. The electric car committed suicide … from day one.
The electric car is the well dressed, scrawny poindexter that nobody ever picks for their baseball team … because he can’t hit, catch, or even make it around the bases. So he sits in the garage of the dugout with nothing to do but get into the game when the league rules DEMAND he must play.
There’s only one solution: massive taxpayer subsidies!
Gm is probably using this as a way to get the stupid governments ( Biden/Trudeau ) to fire up the subsidy machine again, after all it’s only taxpayer’s money.
Every one will have their own museum subsidized to show how green the government wanted to be and its the peoples fault for not buying the pieces of crap.
Of course Government Motors is looking for handouts from the government, they learned that they are “too big to fail” during the Obama bailouts, and are willing to do the bidding of governments in order to get more taxpayer lucre
When you base your business strategy on a lie, reality will remind you of your failure. There is no climate change crisis that humanity can change – the system has too many variables and too many of the variables are beyond our control. And government subsidies are about to run their course so if you only profit because of government input, you are certain to fail over time, particularly in a collapsing worldwide market. Finally, you can’t push an inferior product forever – word gets out that it is inferior and demand drops off because it is too expensive for no measurable gain.
There is a very historical reason why the first cars, which were electric, were replaced by combustion engines. That reason has not changed, and until the energy density exceeds ICE, and the cost undercuts ICE, the demand for the technology will sputter, being limited to early adopters and those that can afford it without personal financial risk. No government mandates will change market common sense. Put another way, selling less effective bovine excrement with subsidies is a leftist pipe dream.
Coder
WRONG, the Panama canal is drying up because of rising water levels!!!!!
Obviously y’all just need to be educated harder. — Your friendly neighborhood central controller
18 Silverados. That will cover the number of people allowed to own their own pick-up in the near future.
It doesn’t matter that there’s no demand. It’s not “over”. Left-wing governments (even if Trump and Polievre win the next ones) will be back at some point and they’ll do the same loony “let’s force the automakers to make EVs no matter if the public can afford them, want them, or the grid can support them”.
The genie is out of the bottle on EVs. It’s a done deal, whether we like it or not. The only thing we can do is fight to reign it in when we get the chance.
Unfortunately you’re correct.
Yes
Wrong. Remember Beta Tapes? They were just like VHS, only smaller and people rejected them. This is like Obamacare in the US. Crappy idea that NOBODY wants, and the Glorious Government keeps trying. I want all these woke Corporations to go broke.
As it was, people did not buy it.
No government subsidies involved.
Nobody cared.
People didn’t want Obamacare, but the people got it anyway.
I don’t remember the government inserting themselves in the Beta/VHS debate.
9 States are adopting California’s ban/phase out of ICE vehicles by 2035 and likely more to follow. When edicts from above tell you they want zero tail pipe emissions by 2035 that’s code for ICE be gone and hello EV.
Too expensive? Oh well…less strain on the grid.
“Wrong. Remember Beta Tapes? They were just like VHS, only smaller and people rejected them”
I remember. Ironically, they were actually the better format of the two (mechanically speaking). It was just a matter of how many people and how much money was backing VHS that made them the winner.
True. Look at all the no-talent “stars”. It would be a different world if WORTH ruled over HYPE.
Meh.
Put a chick in it and make her gay. Oh wait . . . that doesn’t work either.
Attempting to separate Canadians from their trucks might be the straw that finally breaks things……..dare to hope?
And trying to separated Americans from their trucks could be fatal.
That’s why gun control (i.e. banning guns) is the objective. Once accomplished, banning of trucks and ICE cars will be a piece of cake the PTB has wet dreams over.
Once the goberment got involved it was the kiss of death, do you remember in the 80s they made us move our oil tanks outside? Then ten years later the insurance industry ordered us to move it inside, then ten years later it’s back to the outside again. With enough money and lobbying big industry gets it’s own way and we’re the ones left paying the bills.
Once the politicians tell the population they are there to help, as a wise man once said, be afraid.
There is a track record of governments helping to mess things up without fail.
If there is one politician that point’s that out, he is obviously Hitler and needs to be shut up.
There is one that outrageously is keeping at it and the political/media, military/industrial complexes have a unprecedented massive campaign to shut him up.
So far, they enjoy the show, makes the donations from assorted oligarchs coming in.
And the big 3 just went through a large strike where one of the main negotiating points was getting electric vehicle production under the collective bargaining umbrella. Good strategy there UAW.
Good thing the brains of Canada gave 20 billion for an ev battery plant to Volkswagen.
https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/volkswagen-canada-battery-plant-targets-90-gwh-capacity-its-biggest-yet-2023-04-21
Maybe he’ll buy everyone in Atlantic Canada a new ev.
All western Canadians had to do was wait for the federal #Libranos to strike a deal with VW to massively subsidise their battery factory.
The #Libranos are the “Shit-Midas” of the world, everything they touch…
In not so unrelated news, I saw Toyota promoting a new utility looking truck priced at $10k called the Toyota IMV 0
It’s no frills, flat windows, flatbed with no sides, no airbags, crank windows and super basic interior
2.0 litre gas, 2.4 litre diesel, but only for the ASEAN markets from 2025
They’d sell a couple hundred thousand of these here… if it wasn’t for gov’t regulations
Next Generation Environmentally Friendly Vehicle:
wood fired steam automobiles.
Wood is a renewable resource!
We’re nice and warm tonight burning wood from fig/olive/almond/grape in rhe fireplace. Rural Spain is amazing. Freshest avocados ever, oranges, figs, inexpensive vino, jamon.
This is the dumbest company in the world, and should have gone away in 2008.
What’s shocking is that there were only 18 stupid virtue-signaling people out there somewhere. I thought that there would be a lot more braindead gullible people than that.
A bit of good news, I guess. Take it when you can get it.
