  1. The desire for Narrative Control is rooted deep, deep, deep into Canadians’ – or at least a certain type of Canadians’ – DNA:

    1. The francophone cultural & technobureaucratic establishment has always believed that the francophone masses need Narrative Control, else they will become anglophone.

    2. Likewise, the anglophone cultural & technobureaucratic establishment has always believed that the anglophone masses need Narrative Control, else they will become American.

I wonder – and this is not discussed – how much of the impetus behind these laws is coming from the former versus the latter.

This is one of the key reasons why the CBC was created. This elitist dream, however, is running up against avowedly-populist ‘free-for-all’ nature of the internet and can rightfully be seen as semi-comic – although ultimately futile – rearguard action against modernity. Martin Gurri’s great book “The Revolt of Public” puts this sort of thing in perspective.

    1. Here’s our answer! “Bill C-11 – and its predecessor Bill C-10 – have long been driven by the government’s view that the bill was a winner in Quebec.” FYI: Quebec only objected to the federal regulation of internet content, podcasts, etc., BECAUSE QUEBEC ITSELF wanted to regulate internet content, podcasts, etc.

Again, this constant assumed need for Narrative Control…..

    2. Naaawwww. It’s happening for one reason: the average Canadian is a sheep. And turdo, blubber douggie, et al know it.

      1. As if the same thing isn’t happening everywhere. Not to excuse it but it’s not just Canada.

        1. They have -way- more traction here, Thomas. Fertile soil, as it were. Ever SOB and his brother in this country has a list of everybody that absolutely must shut up and go to jail.

Once people get the idea that they can use government to push their neighbors around, things get ugly very quick. As you can tell by reading the news.

          1. Thomas, show me an internet censorship regime like the one Canada is proposing. I think you’re trying to normalize the tyrannical.

  2. Its interesting that he went to the Barbie movie where men are useless and females run the world. Kate McKinnon would make a perfect Perogie Thigh Nazi Fraulein Freeland in the upcoming sequel.

  3. Good points, Eric!
I would add that I doubt anyone takes Civics anymore.
Actually its probably illegal to do so.
The fraud of Group Rights are taken very seriously in Frozenturdistan
And the Individual is so shat upon in Canada by Canadians I’m surprised they’re not barcoding wrists of offenders.

  4. And to think the Canadian people chose that feckless narcissistic boy tyrant Trudeau over Harper.
And now look what we have.
Sure, Harper had his issues, but nothing like that turd.
    It’s your own fault Canada.
It’s too bad that the ones who saw in coming have to suffer right along with the brain dead Canadians who put that freak in power.

      1. I’ll tell you what. When you look at all the stuff Harper actually -did- it looks like the slower, more cautious version of what Shiny Pony is doing now.

Did we get our rights to self defense and to own property back? No. Did our taxes go up? Yes. Did businesses continue to flee the nation just the same as they did under Chretien? Yes. Did the federal government grow in power and headcount? Yes.

Conservative Party of Canada: same as the Liberals, but timid and without the courage of their convictions.

  5. Anyone care to ask why our resident Nazi still gladly licks Dear Leader’s sphincter clean on the issue of THE Ukraine?

No, just go ahead and continually tolerate his racist rants in the name of “free speech” until he wields the weapon pointed at your head and decides to pull the trigger because you’re guilty of “wrongthink” on his precious pet issue.

  6. Always that urge to regulate the culture ( all the unwritten rules we live by ) so that they can try and make everyone as obsequious and liberal as possible.

Had a family member going on about what people needed to watch and not watching enough stuff that was Canadian culture and there should be more of it. I finally shut it down by stating that nobody needed to watch anything, the country was here before radio and TV and got along just fine, and that if Canadians were not interested in watching that clearly it was not Canadian culture.

    1. Yes, absolutely.

If you want to see -actual- American and Canadian culture in video form, you have to watch YouTube. NOTHING on streaming, cable or broadcast is sprung from the culture of the nation. Everything on big media is propaganda. All of it.

Name a big media show that isn’t. That makes it easier.
