The Libranos: Entitled To Her Entitlements

National Post;

The Governor General’s four-day visit to Iceland last fall racked up over $71,000 in limousine costs, according to receipts from the trip.

Obtained via access to information requests by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, expense reports from Gov. Gen. Mary Simon’s October 2022 working visit to Iceland list five separate line items for Icelimo Luxury Travel, a limousine and transportation firm based outside of Reykjavík. […]

“You know the feds spared no expense when the Governor General could have bought a brand new BMW, drove it around the island and then left it outside the airport with the keys inside and still saved money,” Terrazzano said.

“It seems like Simon and her band of bureaucrats go out of their way to spend as much money as possible.”

The Governor General and her entourage were in Iceland to attend last year’s Arctic Circle Assembly — described by Rideau Hall as a means to “…demonstrate Canadian leadership in the Arctic, and reinforce other priority issues for Canada in the north, including climate change, reconciliation, gender equality and youth engagement.”

According to official programs, also obtained via the access to information request, the entirety of the four-day visit took place within Reykjavik — a city of 130,000 people about a quarter of the size of Calgary.

  1. This baloney doesn’t stop until we make it stop -and that isn’t going to happen.

  2. The idea for government was to have an elected body responsible for protecting borders, national defense, regulating trade in a fair manner and protecting citizens from crime by removing/punishing criminals. Somewhere along the way we’ve let it morph into a leviathan designed to scrape as much money out of us to support the lavish lifestyle of people who would otherwise be incapable of feeding themselves.

With so many stupid and corrupt voters in Canada, might be a tough hole to get out of.

    1. Is there really any question about who are the rulers and who are the ruled?

    2. – And especially as, the Governor General DOES NOT GOVERN – she signs legislation on behalf of H.M., she has no say (or rather, she shouldn’t; I notice the last couple have all been ardent proto-commie global warming alarmists, and they and “a certain unnamed prime minister” happily use each other as sounding boards and echo chambers) in the governance of this nation.

She coulda’ stayed at home in her big fat mansion and contributed every bit as much to this affair, at (I betcha’) a savings of a whole lot more than $71,000.

    3. The hole that we Canadians find ourselves in today is far worse than the what happened at the Springhill and Plymouth “holes”. What we are experiencing is not a ‘bump’ or an explosion in our economy. Our economy is imploding in slow motion and there is absolutely nothing that can be done to reverse it. The hole we find ourselves in will eventually be recognized for what it is an unmitigated disaster orchestrated by Trudeau governments I and II, hopefully if there are any survivors they will erect a memorial just as they did in Nova Scotia, when they filled and capped those disasters. RIP Canada.

    1. – clearly with a stiff belt of vodka in it. They soak-back their screwdrivers, we get screwed…

    2. I remember that one of the GGs spent over $1000 for a 1 L pitcher of orange juice, but there was no media outcry for that.

  3. WOW. This one really hit the jackpot when she got appointed GG. Unfortunately, she does not seem to be contributing much to Canada. I thought the role included a social aspect to inspire and unite Canadians.

  4. (Mr Terrazzano’s use of the term band is clearly a racist dogwhistle, thereby justifying Simon’s expenses.)

“…demonstrate Canadian leadership in the Arctic, and reinforce other priority issues for Canada in the north, including climate change, reconciliation, gender equality and youth engagement.”

Holy cow. That means that they discussed NOTHING of actual importance. This was a viceregal PD day. How much did the whole event cost?

  5. “Reykjavik — a city of 130,000 people about a quarter of the size of Calgary.”
    Calgary has 1.3 million people.

      1. Bad writing then. They should use specific terms, like “area” or “population.”

  6. Her salary is enough to cover any travel expenses applicable to her duties. If she doesn’t like it, appoint another to be our living monument from the ranks of the vagina-melanin-gender-pretender demographic.

    1. You can’t ask employees to pay for business traveling expense.

You can, however, ask that they keep costs reasonable.
