City News- No Canada Day fireworks for Calgary this year
Instead, there will be an “enhanced pyrotechnic show” featuring what they describe as a “visually stunning display of lights and sounds” that will be launched from the main stage at Fort Calgary during the headliner act.
The city says it recognizes the cultural sensitivities around fireworks displays in relation to Truth and Reconciliation.
Franca Gualtieri, manager of arts and culture at the City of Calgary, says it’s a test to address some of the “cultural, community and environmental impacts previously experienced with traditional Canada Day fireworks.”
Maybe they should just light city hall on fire instead, it looks like it’s already a woke dumpster fire.

I seem to recall that Calgary voted down the construction of the new city hall in a plebiscite some years ago, they built it anyways. Long overdue to burn down.
The cityhall parkade flooded in the 2013 flood of the century, taking out the “secret”security center, etc.

There a number of separatists in this group. Not celebrating Canada day will probably appeal to some of them.
That said, though I disagree with the separatists, they are a decent lot. If the West goes its own way I’ll miss them.

I can’t follow lefty logic. Somehow fireworks in a downtown park are ‘racist’ and ‘colonial’ (although there’s no rationale given for this thought) but pyrotechnics at FORT, yes Fort Calgary is not. In leftyland wouldn’t a Fort be more racist and colonial than a park? And explain the diff between ‘fireworks’ and ‘pyrotechnics’. I just can’t keep up with the rules these days and not in the least motivated to try!
