Senior members of the SNP are braced for Nicola Sturgeon’s imminent arrest in the wake of detectives interviewing her husband and the party treasurer amid an investigation into party finances.
Senior MPs and MSPs claim it is “inevitable” that the former first minister will be interviewed under caution or as a witness in the coming weeks.
Sturgeon is the only senior SNP official named on the party’s most recent financial accounts who has not been arrested. The former first minister appears on accounts for the 2021-22 financial year as one of three registered officers, alongside Peter Murrell, the former chief executive, and Colin Beattie, the treasurer. It is understood she has not been spoken to by police but has previously said she would “fully co-operate”…
Sturgeon is hilarious. First this, “According to the reports, it claimed she rejected a suggestion from senior SNP officials to hire a fundraising manager who would have scrutiny and oversight of money being donated to the party.”
Dodging anything resembling accountability with the finances is the first step down the road to becoming a new Enron. So it leaves open the question of whether or not SNP is just a new form of grift disguised as an independence movement.
Then this “We’ve got to be careful we don’t reap what we sow, if we have leaks from this body it limits the ability for open free and frank discussion.”
What Sturgeon means of course is that a free and frank discussion in public is to be avoided at all costs. And nothing must ever be allowed to taint Scottish grifting, I mean, the sacred brand of Scottish nationalism. This is a new low in nationalist independence movements. Even Jacques Parizeau was NOT in it for the money, nor was Rene Levesque.
I hope that was just political rhetoric. Anyone who “full co-operates” with the police during their own criminal investigation is insane. It’s only likely to help convict you.
More likely it means that she will rat on the others accused in return for some form of plea bargain.
Progressives sometimes get so convinced of the righteousness of their cause that they get sloppy about ethical codes and the law. And why shouldn’t they, when the press does so much to run interference for them?
When do we see similar headlines about Trudeau and LPC? Yeah…never.
