Down The Primrose Path

Grab a coffee.

The man behind a massive leak of U.S. government secrets that has exposed spying on allies, revealed the grim prospects for Ukraine’s war with Russia and ignited diplomatic fires for the White House is a young, charismatic gun enthusiast who shared highly classified documents with a group of far-flung acquaintances searching for companionship amid the isolation of the pandemic.

United by their mutual love of guns, military gear and God, the group of roughly two dozen — mostly men and boys — formed an invitation-only clubhouse in 2020 on Discord, an online platform popular with gamers. But they paid little attention last year when the man some call “OG” posted a message laden with strange acronyms and jargon. The words were unfamiliar, and few people read the long note, one of the members explained. But he revered OG, the elder leader of their tiny tribe, who claimed to know secrets that the government withheld from ordinary people.

The young member read OG’s message closely, and the hundreds more that he said followed on a regular basis for months. They were, he recalled, what appeared to be near-verbatim transcripts of classified intelligence documents that OG indicated he had brought home from his job on a “military base,” which the member declined to identify. OG claimed he spent at least some of his day inside a secure facility that prohibited cellphones and other electronic devices, which could be used to document the secret information housed on government computer networks or spooling out from printers. He annotated some of the hand-typed documents, the member said, translating arcane intel-speak for the uninitiated, such as explaining that “NOFORN” meant the information in the document was so sensitive it must not be shared with foreign nationals.

OG told the group he toiled for hours writing up the classified documents to share with his companions in the Discord server he controlled. The gathering spot had been a pandemic refuge, particularly for teen gamers locked in their houses and cut off from their real-world friends. The members swapped memes, offensive jokes and idle chitchat. They watched movies together, joked around and prayed. But OG also lectured them about world affairs and secretive government operations. He wanted to “keep us in the loop,” the member said, and seemed to think that his insider knowledge would offer the others protection from the troubled world around them.

“He’s a smart person. He knew what he was doing when he posted these documents, of course. These weren’t accidental leaks of any kind,” the member said.

The original leaks

A member of the Discord group where classified intelligence documents were posted shares information on the man behind the leak, who some call “OG.”

The transcribed documents OG posted traversed a range of sensitive subjects that only people who had undergone months-long background checks would be authorized to see. There were top-secret reports about the whereabouts and movements of high-ranking political leaders and tactical updates on military forces, the member said. Geopolitical analysis. Insights into foreign governments’ efforts to interfere with elections. “If you could think it, it was in those documents.”

In those initial posts, OG had given his fellow members a small sip of the torrent of secrets that was to come. When rendering hundreds of classified files by hand proved too tiresome, he began posting hundreds of photos of documents themselves, an astonishing cache of secrets that has been steadily spilling into public view over the past week, disrupting U.S. foreign policy and aggravating America’s allies.

This account of how detailed intelligence documents intended for an exclusive circle of military leaders and government decision-makers found their way into and then out of OG’s closed community is based in part on several lengthy interviews with the Discord group member, who spoke to The Washington Post on the condition of anonymity. He is under 18 and was a young teenager when he met OG. The Post obtained consent from the member’s mother to speak to him and to record his remarks on video. He asked that his voice not be obscured.

Dozens of highly classified documents have been leaked online, revealing sensitive information intended for senior military and intelligence leaders. In an exclusive investigation, The Post also reviewed scores of additional secret documents, most of which have not been made public.

Where did they come from?

The top-secret documents appear to be — at least partly — from the Pentagon and many seem to have been prepared for senior military officials. Post reporting revealed that a man in his early to mid-20s allegedly shared them with members of an invitation-only Discord group.

What do the leaked documents reveal about Ukraine?

The documents reveal profound concerns about the war’s trajectory and Kyiv’s capacity to wage a successful offensive against Russian forces. According to a Defense Intelligence Agency assessment among the leaked documents, “Negotiations to end the conflict are unlikely during 2023.”

  1. I don’t buy it. This leaker could easily be tracked. Unless he knew he had only months to live, a rational person would not have leaked for the reasons given. At most, this person is being used as a scapegoat, and, perhaps, at most, posted one extremely low-level document. Sounds like deep state misinformation.

Plus, the byline is a “ national security writer “of the Washington Post; the hallmark of deep-state approval and origin.

      1. I love you too, my conspiratorial friend. 🙂
It’s obvious you post on Discord …

        1. I want no discord here. This is a “deep state” con and the only problem with Kenji is that he appears to live in San Fran.

      2. You’ll be thrilled, GYM, to know that we’ve captured the leaker …

One member of the original channel told the New York Times the leaker “was a Christian, anti-war, just wanted to inform some of his friends about what’s going on,”

        https://nypost.com/2023/04/13/national-guardsman-jack-teixeira-arrested-in-us-intel-leaks/

But … seriously? … how does an Air National Guard grunt get access to highly sensitive War strategy documents? Who the hell is in charge of our country?

    1. Yup … kinda like the folded and awkwardly photographed images which suggest the leaker physically took documents out … deliberate obfuscation to lay a false trail , which appears what OG is doing.

    2. Also, the group member behind glass was to confident in his message, his words; he said his lines well. How old was this kid meant to be? He brought in anti-government, right-wing, Waco, etc.

    3. They may just be looking for a way out of the war and need something to facilitate it. A kind of ‘everyone knows but no-one has to take responsibility’ type of situation.

Maybe it’s a tactic to embarrass all the ‘flag in bio’ people into staying quiet and letting them do it.

  2. Just like Climategate, the leaks tell us what those who thought critically about it, and who sought out alternatives to the state controlled Western press, already knew. At a high level.

This guy is going to jail, when they find him, unless he was incredibly careful, and, like Scott Ritter said, he should, for revealing sources and methods, but this is the best shot at ending the war since the US and UK killed the talks back in March of last year. He will be one more casualty, like the ethnic Russian child who picked up a cluster munition launched by Kiev’s army, in Donetsk City.

The other leak that just came out was that it really was the Ukrainians who were shelling that nuclear power plant, and they used American supplied HIMARS missiles to attack Russian positions around it. It seems like commenters here did a lot of claiming that the Russians were shelling an NPP that they themselves controlled, just like they blew up their own pipeline, etc, etc.

Ukrainians need a new minister of propaganda, because their tropes are getting played out.

    1. I say old news The other leak that just came out was that it really was the Ukrainians who were shelling that nuclear power plant, as it was obvious to me at the time; but I missed this item you speak of, can you provide a leak, I mean link?

  3. I found Americans can’t hit jack shit with a weapon…
Hence the need for multiple rounds or big area’s damage weapons.
Just my opinion by someone who can hit a target with one shot.
Aiming for the neck of a bird with a single shot round works well for me.

    1. Through experience…
I was given someone else’s rifle that I wasn’t allowed to adjust its sights.
Targeted it in, I had to aim at the bottom corner of the next target to hit mine in the center.
It had given me a even better aiming point when I was able to do that and consistently hit mine dead center.

    2. Try it with something that shoots back next time and get back to us.

      If you live long enough.

    1. … and don’t forget that little tidbit where the story claimed they “pray” along with telling “offensive” jokes. Yeah … the whole thing reads like an FBI memo about “Catholics”

People who pray and share raunchy jokes are a threat to our Ukraine-styled “Democracy” … unhh huhh … um yeahhhhh … sure they are.

  4. Sounds like ‘Operation Mincemeat’ to me. This could have been launched by either side.

    1. Or both sides, I’m beginning to be very uncharitable with Western governments. They seem capable of killing people in job lots to prop up the banks.

Literally -everything- about the Ukraine war seems hinky. What Russian starts a war in February? Maximum five weeks before a tank can’t leave the road because of the mud. Vlad the Lad would certainly know that.

    1. Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!
Transparent only to those not too blind to see. Now it seems the Ukraine war will be LOST on social media too … eh Joe?

  5. “The Post obtained consent from the member’s mother to speak to him and to record his remarks on video. He asked that his voice not be obscured.”

Well that’s kind of a strange request from someone who thinks at some point the FBI will find him and rain hell.
You trust WAPO with your identity? Oh dear.

Something isn’t quite right about this whole story.

    1. I read that we have pictures and video of OG … and it’s just a matter of time before he is spotted with facial recognition software somewhere …

  6. Wapo has been the CIA clearinghouse for disinfo, this we know.

This story has all the hallmarks of a propaganda piece, trying to frame America’s deadliest enemy within, the radicalized, gun totin’ , God fearing and praying Christians.

All those words were used in the article, so it must be true. How does someone smuggle in a phone to take pics when it is a phone free zone? We have scanning devices in use up in the oilsands for phones. You’re going to tell me that the Feds don’t have such devices for their employees to pass thru and scan for mobile devices? I have ocean view property in Sask for sale if you believe this story.

    1. My thoughts as well. I took “Arty”s advice by reading the comments. Yup…he’s a Trump loving, God worshipping, MAGA right winger.

  7. WaPo is a known leak outlet for foreign intelligence actors; think CIA and their ilk. NYT is domestic intelligence such as FBI while CNN is for the State Department. Sundance has noted these three outlets many times and the motives for leaks as they happen; you can even witness dueling narratives taking place from time to time when the various agencies are bickering.

So given the source, this story is almost certainly a CIA plant. Trying to smoke out the real source of the leak, perhaps, by fabricating / using a teenager as the front.

  8. The article seems to be written in an odd style, almost as if it’s done by AI.

As for the content, Bellingcat was way ahead on all of this. As usual.

  9. I’m going on my memory here but just before obama left office he opened up to more people in government the kind of documents/intel that only a select few had access too at that point. Is this access part of the wider range of who got access to this type of info.

    1. But why waste so much energy on faking? Look where the fakery is not pointing, and there are the fakers.

  10. A very long interview between two ex-intel guys with some fascinating insights regarding the US Defense leaks , China-Russia and the decline of the USA influence .

Ex-CIA analyst , McGovern suggests the leak mirrors the leak during the Vietnam war when Westmoreland was secretly asking Johnson for 206,000 more troops in an effort to expand the war to Laos , Cambodia , North Vietnam and beyond . Once this broke , Westmoreland was recalled and Johnson eventually stepped out of politics.

Also during the discussion McGovern reminded everyone that and Russia or China have precipitated few wars , whereas the US has been the primary provocateur with a long list.

They both are puzzled why the MSM carried the story as they could have suppressed it like they have with so many other “conspiracy theories” which turned out to be true.

    Well worth listening.

  11. Well that was quick. NYTs claim to know the identity of the leaker…21 year old Nat Guard airman Jack Teixeira.
    Supreme Court leaker? Nah.
Amazing how they can find you when you piss off the deep state or their Dem allies.

      1. Ok, we can all breath now, he has a Portuguese name.

I do not think this is real; he is a patsey, a pastie, a fool or a tool, or just a volunteer actor.

  12. How many of those people in that “community” are working as agents or CHS of the FBI?

If it’s anything like the “Proud Boys” it’s greater than 50%

  13. This Story is complete Bullshit. Why can’t they find the Pipe Bomber at the DNC on Jan6?
    or the Supreme Court Leaker?
This story gives that POS Biden, an out to change course in their fake War.

Not 1 FILTHY News Outlet is shocked that we are at war with Russia? They instead attack the Leaker.

He is no Leaker. Fake News. Fake Country.
