We got our asses kicked by all but one team (we weren’t quite as elite as the massive LA clubs). The one team we were able to beat up on, came all the way from Abbotsford, BC. The team was predominantly little Indian boys and an Indian coach. All I can say is that they were incredibly gracious in defeat … and invited our families to hang out with them. Huh? I guess they figured we were the upper caste on the day? Pretty much like all the Indian people I’ve met or known … lovely people.
And oh my! There was a local young Indian woman (in her early 20’s) who was a print reporter for a local newspaper. A friend of mine, and I had cause to meet with her regularly. It was all I could do to keep my tongue from hanging out every time we met. She is in the TOP FIVE most beautiful women I’ve ever met. Drop Dead Gorgeous. Sadly, I wasn’t anywhere near her appearance-caste. Oh! yeah, and I was married with kids too … I’m no Democrat.

Very much back in the day, heard a talk by Christian missionaries who had been working at a school in India. The school did seriously NOT discriminate by caste, but the students all knew where each one belonged in the caste system. Not quite said was that skin colour played – and still plays – a large part in that system: the darker the skin, the lower the caste.
The other end in the caste system is apparently just as bad! A friend who’s a former physicist now does tutoring for high school and uni maths and physics, and he’s noticed that the high end Indians here, many of them professionals and expecting the same for their offspring, treat him as a glorified servant to the point of rudeness.
