Go Woke, Go Broke

Shakeup at the Groomer Kingdom.

Bob Iger has replaced Bob Chapek as Disney’s CEO, a shocking turn of events for the world’s largest media company that has been in turmoil ever since Iger stepped down as CEO in February 2020.

The shakeup that caught the entertainment industry and Wall Street mostly by surprise was confirmed by Disney’s board of directors late Sunday. There had been rumblings of a shakeup in the C-suite but the prospect of Iger returning to the CEO job still seemed far-fetched.

“We thank Bob Chapek for his service to Disney over his long career, including navigating the company through the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic,” said Susan Arnold, chairman of Disney’s board of directors. “The Board has concluded that as Disney embarks on an increasingly complex period of industry transformation, Bob Iger is uniquely situated to lead the Company through this pivotal period.”

Chapek’s ouster comes on the heels of a third-quarter earnings report that spooked Wall Street as spending on content and marketing for Disney’s direct-to-consumer platforms hit its projected peak of $1.5 billion in fiscal 2022. Even though the Disney had previously guided Wall Street to losses of that scale, and even as Disney+ posted subscriber growth for the quarter, the river of red-ink still took a toll on Disney’s stock price. Shares fell well below the $100 mark, to $90, on Nov. 9, the day after Disney’s after-market earnings report.

    1. That, and the death of the “+”, I think.

      CNN+: DOA
Paramount+: Not sure I’m going to pay 10 bucks a month for total crap.

      Etc.

  1. SDA….please don’t go too hard on Chapek. He saw that problems but was not strong enough. Iger installed the woke. Tonight I’m sad. This means Star Wars is total dead. The Indiana Jones will be a woman. (Of the 5 endings)

    1. Bob, thanks for this. I was thinking the same thing. One can hope for Disney flicks continuing to bomb. And for other woke areas of this terrible company to continue to lose money.

We used to get years ago Canada’s Family Channel, as part of our bundled package, where the channel replicated much of the U.S.’s Disney Channel. There was very little for an adult to watch. But I would channel surf on to it on occasion. This was the late 1980s and the 1990s — and even back then, before wokeness seized hold, Disney’s TV shows were crap. Disney never depicted family problems or relationships in any sane way. Children were bright and engaging. Teenagers struggled to be “cool”, disrespecting their parents and ignorant at school. Every scene had to have one non-white; teens wore the latest fashions (Disney product placement was a must on any show); the boy-band pop music was execrable.

I think the Disney Channel helped lure kids into drugs and suicide.

  2. The Devil Mouse has been spewing vomit for decades. Michael Eisner was a major part of that and Disney has been in a death spiral since he started the new trajectory.

The child grooming and abuse has been swept under the rug for so long it has replaced the Matterhorn as the thrill ride of choice…

    1. $91.80 per share.

They had Billion Dollar Intellectual Properties like Star Wars and drove them into the ground.
They picked a fight with the Governor of Florida, and their wonderful special development deal was gutted.

They are failing their fiduciary duties.

  3. Anyone who has gone to the parks recently has seen why he’s gone. I spoke to my cousin yesterday. He went to Epcot last week. He paid $150 for one day admission. Incredibly packed, with super long lines even to buy drinks.

Iger could have dealt with huge crowds in part by having longer operating hours for the parks, but that costs money.

And apparently under Chapek many Disney stories now incorporate high profile characters who are gender benders, and I think parents caught on that the new woke Disney wants their little boys to become little girls, and vice versa.

Hopefully Iger will make it his mission to cleanse management of people who possess a broken moral compass.

    1. Iger was the one who started and brought the woke crap. He wanted to run for Prosident so he brought in many lefties. Also he never created anything. He just purchased IP. And then rung it out. Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars etc. Then bought Fox and left. He will not un woke the company. Watch to see what he does to KK and Kevin F. If she stays around and he gets more power its going to be double down on woke.

  4. Iger is a huge China-fluffer. FJB didn’t give him the Ambassador to the Mongol Horde job he coveted, so now he’s back.

    1. That’s actually what I think as well. He didn’t get what he was really after, and he may have even upset China somehow! He’s unlikely to persuade a now somewhat hostile congress (?) otherwise re a new job. And given the mess Disney has created for itself, and that Bob ‘Paycheck’ was unable to make it look better, he’s been enticed/coerced back…

Don’t expect any improvements for us, though… Iger helped START almost all of the Disney shit! Paycheck was always put in just to fall on his sword at an appropriate time. If he’d had any successes, this might have been delayed… I have a very small degree of sympathy for him, but not a lot.

The one who really needs firing is Kathleen Kennedy…!!! But rumour has it that she has some hold on Iger, and she’ll likely benefit yet again when all around her is rubbish.

I was asked to go with other friends to Disneyland aeons ago. I’m even gladder now that I never did!!!

  5. Iger was the one who started and pushed the wokeness.
He was always behind the scenes.
    Don’t buy into the bs
