Criminals: 1   Law-abiding Canadians: 0

After two years of psychological oppression, Trudeau has cowered the majority of Canadians into submission. Now he is going to ensure that the rest of the population can’t defend themselves:

The federal government’s promised national “freeze” on the sale, purchase and transfer of handguns takes effect Friday — part of Ottawa’s plan to limit access to firearms to tamp down on a spike in crime.

Under the regulations, people can still own and use their existing registered handguns and sell or transfer handguns to “exempted individuals or businesses.”

Requests to transfer a handgun submitted before today’s date will still be processed, the government said.

Precisely how many criminals is this going to block from having a handgun?

  1. “Precisely how many criminals is this going to block from having a handgun?”

    Precisely ZERO!!
I am willing to wager this will increase smuggling.
They have rolled back how much jail time for these charges.

    1. About 20 years ago we went to dinner at the home of affluent friends. In attendance that night was a guy who sold rifles and shotguns to sporting goods stores. He told us that he could go into any of a half dozen bars in our small southwestern Ontario city that night and get a new handgun in the box for about $300. Can’t imagine it’s changed at all since then.

      1. The Canadian Criminal Rescue Act.
Actually, its changed about 8.2% a year for the last two years…LOL.
Sox has likely now sown the seeds for an outstanding black market, and home-breaking just became substantially more potentially profitable.

    2. Well Bob , soon everyone who owns a firearm will be a criminal. It is very useful to brand a large constituency of people who don’t support you as criminals. Look how many criminals the truckers protest created. It never has been about the safety of anyone but the government.

    1. Butts is an idiot.
Think higher up the food chain.
Even higher than the WEF/Bilderberg/CFR types.

  2. Honestly, it is Canadian communities of color that will bear the burden of death. And the pure wool that is the justice system will get more billable hours. I do not think you can honestly talk about this issue on a public forum, there are too many elephants on the podium. But the dark web has great gore sites.

  3. “Precisely how many criminals is this going to block from having a handgun?”
About as many as here in the States… Against the law? Well of course that’ll sop ’em. SARC/Off

    1. What is most fascinating to me is how impermeable to facts and figures is the mind of a liberal.

        1. You can’t reason someone out of a position they weren’t reasoned into to begin with. This isn’t about public policy, it’s just hoplophobia.

    1. JUSTIN

      ZERO SURPRISE THERE….none.
Most of the materiel is likely sold to non-state actors for cash that will end up in some Oligarchs bank account. As it is, & as it has ALWAYS been.

      1. Ukraine has always been just a smidge corrupt.
Likely we are supporting a number of disagreements around the planet.

I’m certain the Delaware Dolt is all over it.

    2. It really does not matter where the guns end up.
What matters is that the military industrial complex gets paid billions, with cut to the politicians of every stripe.
      Period.

  4. Surprising exactly no one, a jury finds someone not guilty of murder, on the basis of self defence after shooting the victim 6 times, including twice in the head:

    https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2022/10/27/toronto-man-who-fired-six-times-in-daylight-shooting-acquitted-of-first-degree-murder.html

the shooter is currently in jail for an armed home invasion, so he won’t be another homicide in the public interest for a few more years

  5. Here’s a post I found on Quora

One year after Australia gun owners turrned thier guns in

Australia-wide, homicides are up 6.2 percent,
    Australia-wide, assaults are up 9.6 percent;
Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!

In the state of Victoria…..alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent.(Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not and criminals still possess their guns!)
    https://www.quora.com/profile/Scott-Bartlett-59/December-2015-Australian-Gun-Law-Update-Heres-a-thought-to-warm-some-of-your-hearts-From-Ed-Chenel-A-police-o?ch=12&oid=86578455&share=b8fb7ecc&srid=hNqvIk&target_type=post

    1. “Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not and criminals still possess their guns!”

Shocked! I tell you, I’m shocked!

  6. Even without the handgun sales freeze, there is zero possibility a LAGO in Canada could defend themselves using their handgun because they would be following all the existing storage and transport rules which make it completely inaccessible for rapid personal defence.

    1. RN, If I am at home, then it does not need to be “locked up in storage” plus, I’d have a loaded magazine close by. This will still be technically legal. Then, if I survive, they can arrest me. At least I’ll be alive to go to court to explain slowly about my split second decision, and then perhaps go to prison afterwards. Any purp that invades my home, will not be. Fortunately, I live in a very safe area, and don’t currently need to be “semi armed just in case” but if I do/did, need to be armed, semi or otherwise, I will/would be. The legal aspect I’ll worry about later, if I am still able to do so!

  7. On average, the IQ of Canadians is at 99.
100 is the “ground 0” for average, functioning humans. 115 is above average while 85 is the bar for retardation.

    Canada is 99.
    85% Canadians are intellectually weak.

    1. As I always tell people… imagine the intelligence of the average Canadian, then understand that half of the country’s population is even dumber than that. And they vote. Liberal and NDP.

  8. All things considered, criminals are not interested.
They will keep their guns and acquire more of them, knowing that there is no defense.
    The politicians don’t mind.

    1. Progressive politicians will never mind: for them crime is not a problem, but an opportunity: the more criminals there are, the bigger the array of leaky money-pipelines it will take to “fight” them.

The kleptocracies currently ruling Lower Turdistan and the Disunited States are perfect examples of this…

  9. What is the specific deficiency with the previous gun-control scheme? Why doesn’t it work? Shouldn’t these questions be debated and answered before the state is allowed to make up new laws and responsibilities for itself?

IF we’re allowing the government to embark on an impossible feat how does it ever get reigned it?

    1. Period, Stop it, you are applying a logic that could never be applied to mentally diseased idiots. How far back do you want to seek an actual working gun-control scheme?

      1. The feds have been after anything with rifling for 155 years…I don’t need an example of a working gun-control scheme.

The entirety of Gun Control legislation here has been abandoned and declared a failure by the OICs. Shouldn’t they have to admit it’s (PALs / FACs, Licencing, Classifications, Registry, Press 5 to report a public safety concern, etc, etc) a failure if they’re going to supersede it all with bans?

My stance is that the objective of Public Safety is impossible and instead one should have every legal right and mechanism to prevent themselves from being a victim of violence at their disposal.

        1. “Shouldn’t they have to admit it’s (PALs / FACs, Licencing, Classifications, Registry, Press 5 to report a public safety concern, etc, etc) a failure if they’re going to supersede it all with bans? “

          Huh. Interesting point. Well stated.

  10. (Not exactly new news.)

The “You Don’t Need” crowd strikes again.

You don’t need to eat so much.
You don’t need meat at all.
You don’t need that much AC in summer.
You don’t need that much heat in winter.
You don’t need that single family home.
You don’t need a cat or a dog.
    You don’t need to procreate.
You don’t need to fly to your winter vacation.
You don’t need a car if you live in the city.
You don’t need a family doctor.
You don’t need all that money.
You don’t need to live that long.

When someone tells you that “you don’t need a handgun” ask them why they get to decide.

    1. I always love the ‘you don’t need that’ crowd. The only appropriate answer to ‘you don’t need that’ in 2022 is ‘come and take it.’

They get very outraged and confused when you say ‘come and take it.’ You are supposed to offer it up to them with both hands, from bended knee.

  11. Illegal gun acquisition has likely been easier all along for criminals and so nothing changes for them. The only thing that changes is that the Spawn-Fuhrer gets to screw over his political enemies while his media cheerleaders wave pompoms and the urban Eloi feel the illusion of safety.

  12. But as Wendy Cukier says, “If it saves just one life….”

Yeah, I laughed at that one too. Cukier and cooky must be similar words in meaning.

  13. Good grief, this is NOT about reducing crime or public safety.
This is NOTHING more than The Turd, acting like the petulant, spoiled man-child like he is and taking a swipe at his political enemies and detractors. He has an opportunity to stick his finger in the eye of his adversaries and snigger about it behind his hand, so of course he’s going to take it. Expect an increase of similar outbursts as it becomes more obvious that his reign is reaching its end.

  14. None of this matters.

Big huge announcements to give the illusion that the government is monolithic and will never be opposed. I see it as signs of weakness. Just like the vax passports. Thirty percent of the population … my guess… healthy, not buckling under, prepared and waiting for things to break has to keep them up at night.

    1. I love being in their heads (I was going to say ‘minds’. However…) rent-free. It must p!ss off Trudles something fierce every time he flies to/from Tofino over Alberta. We need a “F*ck Trudeau” sign visible from 30,000 feet and right under his flight path.

      1. DB, I’d donate to that for sure. We need to buy a farm under that flight path that the turd has put out of business due to regulations and fertilizer reduction. Then get further donations to illuminate that giant sign!
        I’m in for a grand….anyone else?

  15. is it time to start eliminating gov’t apparatchiks when they come to your door?
    asking for a friend ……

  16. To be clear, Trudeau will try to stop Canadians from owning handguns. He will also fail. This will go about as well as banning drugs.

And the next Conservative government can just undo it in the same way with the same degree of difficulty.
