      I spent a coupla months up in the bush in NW Ontario this spring hanging with an old buddy a trapper and float plane driver. We hit the Hodder Ave Greeks in Thunder Bay for a coney island slyder. Maybe another time I’ll give your place a try Doc.

    1. A lot of US coal is exported through the Port of Vancouver, BC. Apparently coal ships don’t club whales the same way ships carrying Canadian oil do. Strangely enough oil tankers going through the Strait of Juan de Fuca bound for US ports don’t club whales either. Odd how that works.

      1. Scar…One hell of a lot of Canadian Coal goes through that port as well. Have seen some pretty long trains heading YVR way on my travels through Central BC.

      2. Hiked the JdF trail both last & this summer. Saw lots of tanker traffic in the strait but not a single whale washed up on shore. Lots of curious seals swimming around near the campsites.

    1. I am hoping Peckford wins on appeal as the government cannot enact illegal mandates that violate the “charter” and then withdraw those restrictions and and then have a court say it’s moot. It was illegal, full stop.
      The restrictions were suspended, not cancelled leaving room for the government to impose them again. This is just imposing court/legal costs on the plaintiffs.
      It’s bullshit.

      As to that quaint little observation, “Some call her the Canadian Ron DeSantis.”, she only wishes she had a single vertebrae from DeSantis’ spine. Just one.

      I’m telling you, people, do not trust DS. Keep her feet to the flames at all times. She has a proven track record of waffling all over the place.

        I’m willing to cut DS some slack. She’s the closest we’ve had to a conservative in Alberta in the last 75 or more years. She’s a libertarian and therefore is ok on the abortion issue and gay rights etc.

        I’m not happy with the size of her cabinet but I get it. It’s politics. Keep your enemies close and solidarity in the party matters this close to an election.

        They are out to get her – here and across the country. Everything she ever said is now being dredged up and thrown in her face. The weasels on Chorus radio are pretty stiff with her forgetting that 18 months ago she was their star.

        So, yes she made some egregious errors in the past. She has owned these mistakes. Lets see how things play out.

        Alberta isn’t the place it was 30 years ago. Smith represents a real conservative option. If she can’t carry the day…..

          She’s the best of a poor lot but that doesn’t mean I’m going to cut a quisling any slack. I don’t care if she’s owned her past or not. Absolutely anything she says, writes, dictates, dreams, does, whatever, is immediately under doubt. I won’t trust a proven liar in my personal life, nor will I anywhere else.

          She needs to be under a microscope her entire time at the helm. She’s earned that level of scrutiny. If she can’t handle that, wah frickin’ wah. GTF out & appoint me.

          I alluded to the possibility of a change over the weekend. It happened. Nine of the 17 positions (a majority) open on the UCP BoD were won by candidates approved by Take Back Alberta. The BoD can apply tremendous pressure to DS, not limited to but including removing her party status & subsequently, her premiership.

          For the first time in years I am cautiously optimistic about provincial politics.

          BTW, if anybody from Alberta isn’t involved with or hasn’t heard about Take Back Alberta, have a look at their social media for the next meeting local to you. There are some good things happening. Get involved!

  19. In Manhattan, I preferred the Carnegie Deli (now closed) over Katz’s. Schwartz’s in Montreal, of course. Switzer’s on Spadina Avenue in Toronto was a family favourite when I was a kid. Yitz’s and Shopsy’s were good too.
