Trust the Evidence- Breast Implants: Deadly Devices

In the 1890s, paraffin was injected into breasts to increase their size. But the paraffin leaked, and the technique was abandoned. In the 20s and 30s, surgeons tried transferring fat – also not a good idea. And in the 50s, cartilage, wood, and even glass balls were used – the side effects were disastrous. In 1962, Timmie Jean Lindsey, in Houston, Texas, was the world’s first to undergo breast augmentation surgery using silicone implants.

  1. Was never a fan. I didn’t see a movement opposing augmentation, we just went straight to cutting them off.

  2. Yes yes! All well and good!

But tell me, would doctors have the guts to point this out to 10 year old Joe who fancied himself a Josephine and wanted “the works”?

    Okay okay…just being silly.

  3. It is not just about getting bigger chest for the sake of vanity. Augmentation and reconstruction has managed to restore a lot of quality of life to breast cancer survivors.

    Also funbags are fun.

    1. That’s highly debatable. And the last thing any woman who has had cancer, especially breast cancer, should be doing g is getting implants that may cause further cancer and numerous other problems. The fact is, by far most implants ARE done for vanity reasons. (And men often play a role in that. )

      1. No not really. Yes, there is a certain risk involved. The risk is small, the resulting improvements in life are often considerable. For a lot of women the risk is worth taking.

Also nothing necessarily wrong with doing it for vanity reasons. I don’t think it is smart or worth doing for vanity reasons (especially the grotesque overinflated modifications) but this should be an individual choice.

        Also funbags are fun.

  4. Recent experience with a family member. She had a lumpectomy (looks like they got it all) and a plastic surgeon was there to immediately replace what had been removed.

The “problem” is that the reconstructed boob is perkier than the natural one. Now she has to get them “balanced.”

Was this a deliberate marketing ploy by the plastic surgeon?

    We’ll never know!

    1. Breast cancer often leaves serious psychological scars. If she gets a nicer rack as an aftermath and thus feels better about herself, it is not a bad thing.

  5. I love 80085, leave them alone.
Small ones, big ones, saggy or round, stick them in my face and rub them all around.

  6. Money talks.
For decades now women’s “acceptable” shape has been defined by fashion.
    Fashion ruled by Gay Men.
    Follow the money flows..
Create insecurity to sell ’em salvation..
    Same old playbook.
The “cosmetic improvement” surgeries are just the tip of this.
