Oh, The Humanity

Doomberg (behind paywall)

Despite historic spreads between the price of natural gas in North America and the rest of the world, the drama-teacher-turned-cosplay-Prime-Minister professed to be unable to find a compelling business case for the proposal (although he did leave the door open for further consideration). In Trudeau’s fossil fuel-free vision of the future, such multi-billion-dollar investments will be obsolete before they could generate an economic return. How embarrassing it must have been for members of the European elite to submit themselves to the whims of the ultimate “legacy” admission to the political arena.

Instead, the two countries entered into a bizarre agreement to develop a “transatlantic hydrogen supply chain”. […]

We were a little dumbfounded when saw these headlines. Surely, this must be a joke? Alas, like much of what emanates from the current slate of Western leaders, the two countries appear to be as serious in intent as they are unserious in understanding. While we could write an entire piece demonstrating why this effort is destined to be just another multi-billion-dollar boondoggle…

Via @max_gagliardi; As someone who has spent their career focused on the transportation, compression and cooling of gas, the delta here between nat gas and hydrogen is staggering

  1. …not to mention that you still have to use energy to isolate the hydrogen. Nat gas OTOH comes up out of the ground when you drill a hole in it.

      1. “Brain damage” appears to cause “Hydrogen enthusiasm”, however.

Any actual sane engineers out there care to comment on the fun and games to be had whilst CONTAINING Hydrogen?

  2. Trudeau is Putin’s bitch.
    A useful global warming idiot.

Some enterprising government funded fluffer should ask him about that.

    1. Bankruptcy will be spectacular because of this idiot as nobody wants their money handled by flaky people who haven’t a clue how anything is created.

  3. Remember chemistry class. Hydrogen burns with a distinct pop. Not sure we want that on a large scale.

  4. Come on now. We know that feelings and posturing is what matters, not what factually happens in the real world.

  5. It pains me when I think of Trudeau (aka Shit-for-Brains). It really does – as in how anyone so stupid could get elected three times. Yes I know the last two were only based on about a 32% popular vote but really. That many Canadians actually voted for this cretin. Sad indeed.

    1. Consider the IQ of the average Canadian. Now realize that half of all Canadians have an IQ below that. And most of them vote LPC/NDP because free stuff.

  6. It’s obvious that politicians and “experts” just babble on about policies that sound nice but are unrealistic and impractical. Most of the public are genuinely ignorant (not meant as a derogatory term) about science, energy and math. So the public is easily mislead by things that sound nice. They have no idea how these policies will harm their finances and erode their standard of living. Journalists are merely stenographers for big government but I assume they are as mystified as the public about science, energy and math. Journalists write what they are paid to write – no investigative reporting allowed.

So that’s how these idiotic policies get implemented and now, after accounting for lag time, we can see the results : energy poverty, an emerging food crisis and social unrest. Sleepwalking into chaos.

    1. I can envision ‘ them ‘ rubbing their hands with glee mumbling ” good, good, everything is going according to plan ” with a twist of their Snidely Whiplash moustache.

  7. And what would PM Zoolander know about a business case? Does he even know what the term means?

  8. Can confirm. Those who talk about Hydrogen as being the next climate saviour haven’t a clue what they’re talking about. Hydrogen was a byproduct in one of our chemical processes. If the company thought they could store it and sell it I’m sure they would have, wisely choosing to flare it instead.
Maintenance on associated equipment (bronze tools only please) as well as flare stack light offs were done on weekends to minimize plant personnel. Flattening 5 acres plays out better in the media then “10 killed in weekend mishap”.

I read somewhere they’re trying to powderize hydrogen with Silicon or whatever…but they’re light years from perfecting it.

  9. Burning hydrogen creates water vapor as I understand it. Well, if one were to follow the science of global warming, you might realize that water vapor is a greenhouse gas too. More potent than co2 in fact. Burning hydrogen in a large scale is worse for global warming than burning Nat gas. Or maybe that global warming stuff is just made up gibberish…

    1. // Burning hydrogen creates water vapor … water vapor is a greenhouse gas too. More potent than co2 in fact.
Burning hydrogen in a large scale is worse for global warming than burning Nat gas. //
Love your logic, but the end result is “just made up gibberish…”

The amount of water vapor in the atmosphere depends on temperature of the air which depends on the level of CO2.
So it doesn’t matter whether you spit, piss, water the lawn or burn hydrogen.

At any given time the amount in a column of air varies from an equivalent of zero to six cm of liquid water, with an average of about 25mm.
And it has increased about 4% as the temperature has increased.

  10. What is the waste product from the combustion of Hydrogen? H2O. Water Vapor. Much more potent as a greenhouse gas than CO2. Talk about “Gas” Lighting!

  11. Hydrogen fuel AKA unicorn farts.
No worries, there are plenty of big city liberals stupid enough to keep supporting Zoolander.
And plenty of ‘Free Shit’ voters.

Putin funds the ecomorons who ‘advise’ Zoolander. Starving and freezing Europe benefits Putin. Our corrupt MSM are too stupid to figure that out.

  12. Let’s sell our Nat. Gas to Europe until Canadian consumers achieve price parity with European consumers!
    Idiots.

  13. Relax. The Quantum physicist is just saving the resources for his ChiCom Masters, when they need it in 20 years.

  14. In the end, many Lieberal supporters cooking up this scam will get extremely wealthy and will ensure a good chunk of the money will be laundered into Party coffers. The fact that nothing beneficial to the subjects will result is irrelevant.

  15. The fact is, relying on coal is a better bet than relying on nat. gas as far as CO2 emission is concerned.
If we burned every scrap of coal and oil ever sequestered from the carbon cycle, we’d wind up with maybe 10 000 ppm CO2.
If we burned every scrap of nat. gas in the oceans and in the crust, we’d wind up with over 50 000 ppm, enough to be fatal.

  16. I want my home warm in the winter even if it’s only a section. I will burn used motor oil, cardboard, plastic bags/bottles and such that I now put out to recycle. I will not freeze in the dark. Fouck Greta. I am going to stay warm. I have limited back up but if need be I will do what it takes to stay warm. Don’t think I am alone on that one to keep my family warm/alive if it comes to that.
