The Derek Chauvin Appeal

Scott Johnson;

Derek Chauvin could not afford an attorney to appeal his convictions in the case of George Floyd. Chauvin’s insurance did not extend to appeals and the Minnesota Supreme Court denied him a public defender. Although I thought Chauvin could not have received a fair trial in Hennepin County, it looked like he wouldn’t be able to raise the issue on appeal either. […]

Virtually every time I wrote about the trial on Power Line I noted the riots that preceded it, the riots that occurred during it, and the concrete and barbed-wire construction around the courthouse that gave visible form to the lynch-mob atmosphere of the proceedings. National Guard troops were stationed outside the courthouse along with two armored personnel carriers.

Security concerns were such that the jurors assembled at an undisclosed location each morning during the trial and were driven to and from the courthouse by Hennepin County Sheriff’s officers in unmarked vans. The Star Tribune reported: “The unprecedented effort aimed at protecting jurors from danger and outside influence cost $21,905 in van rentals.”

One more thing. Governor Walz began deploying National Guard troops around Minneapolis and St. Paul as early as Wednesday, April 14, 2021-before jury sequestration-in the event riots occurred “post verdict,” as Bill puts it at page 29 of Appellant’s Brief. “Post verdict” should be translated as “in the unlikely event of a not guilty verdict.” Everyone in his right mind understood the secondary effects of a not guilty verdict.

He has an appeal lawyer now, and legal defense fund at a Give Send Go, for however long that lasts.

  1. Enough fentanyl in George Floyd to kill 3 large men or one small horse. The medical examiner had been browbeat by the prosecution to change his opinion. Floyd would have been dead whether or not Chauvin showed up. I gave 40 bucks to help him out.

    1. Floyd had 3 times the median dose found in people who died of fentanyl poisoning. That means the half the people who died of fentanyl poisoning had less than 1/3 of that which Floyd had in his system. In all likelihood it was 4 times the dose that would kill some people.

      1. So he could have had five times the lethal dose for him.
        Or more.

You know, because ‘The lethal dose of fentanyl varies from person to person.’

      2. How did you miss a stats class on the way to becoming a genius? Floyd had Covid so he was likely more susceptible to fentanyl, poor lung function and all.

      3. Follow the science, idiot. There is something called an LD50 (lethal dose for 50% of the population) for every drug studied and known.
Why are lefties so stupid and rude? Then again, you’re just a silly troll.

  2. I’m still curious if the prosecution was aware of the BLM activist on the Jury and failed to disclose it to the defence…

  3. They could have dispensed with the obvious show trial. The fix was in long before that, and everyone knew it. Based on the actual facts that emerged both before and during this ‘trial’, the behavior of the prosecutors, judges and even the police department itself was despicable.

      1. No, for being a thug who has abused the system and destroyed lives throughout his entire professional life. The same system that he cynically used to destroy lives of others now destroyed his life. Poetic injustice, richly deserved.

        1. I knew the ASS COLON would be in here making an ass of it’s self. A frequent flyer like the Floyd Thug deserved nothing less than to be pinned, after resisting arrest , that way he could not harm anyone else. The floyd thug had a history of harming others, so good riddance. Now go phone the assisted suicide doctor COLON, I will offer to pay the charge for you!

        2. Don’t leave out the long history of complaints about Pig Chauvin before he murdered George Floyd!

          1. I didn’t leave anything out. I was very clear. Chauvin used the system to ruin lives, and took a couple of lives in the process himself. Assaulted, abused, was a worthless thug all his life. Protected by the system that he cynically manipulated. Then the corrupt system turned on him. It turned on him strictly for politically correct reasons. Had his victim been white none would care. Epic poetic injustice. Richly deserved.

P.S. Floyd was a worthless piece of excrement and the world is better off without him.

  4. Chauvin will win on appeal and walk.

The fix was in to avoid even larger riots and a possible race war. I figured he’d do a few years, let things cool down. He might even get some sort of prosecutorial misconduct settlement.

  5. I will pass on throwing money at a thug cop and murderer, and I will laugh at this article’s pathetic attempts to cast doubt on the verdict. Barbed wire = mistrial GTFO here.

I have no doubt Hewitt and the other degenerates at PowerLine are incensed to the point of seeing double over the notion that not only can law enforcement be held accountable, but worse that we can’t just kill black people at will.

    1. Had Floyd been white none would care. Witness the cold blooded execution of Justine Damond, at the hands of a Somali enricher in blue. He got off after just a few years.

      1. Or the police lynching of Kelly Thomas, a mentally disabled white man beaten sadistically to death Casino style by a bunch cops, with a Mexican cop doing most of the beating. The sadists on blue escaped charges. There is plenty more. There is never outrage or a demonstration. Whitey is not a protected species.
