Woke Canada: An individual who’s skin tone we cannot mention… assaulted staff at an Apple store in Toronto last weekend. He sat down at a computer and cranked the sound while playing music disrupting staff and customers. He then verbally assaulted a female staff member. Store security asked the individual to leave and he refused (store policy states that homeless and other individuals are allowed 30 min in store to loiter, use the wifi, use the products for personal use, and charge their own devices). Store security called Mall security who convinced the individual to leave but he returned and took a new iPhone from the store that was not returned. Police were then alerted and escorted the man out of the mall (with the stolen merchandise). He returned again and this time verbally and physically assaulted the store security manager while both mall security and police were called to engage. The individual threatened violence to the Apple security guard telling him he would kill him after work someday. This man was not arrested… the police informed the Apple Security that he could press charges if he wished but that no more would be done that day. No charges were laid by police on the individual irregardless of the theft or assault.
Security staff are trained not to engage. Their job is to be a physical deterrent and nothing more. They are trained in verbal deescalation techniques but no disarmament or self defence. If they witness shoplifting or assault they are to write a report but not engage the individual at all. If they do engage (which has happened when security gets frustrated by the lack of punishment for crimes) they are given time off without pay or fired).
The rate of theft is alarming, with several items over $1000 walking away daily while staff are witness but told to do nothing to stop it. I know this because the security officer who was threatened death is my Husband.
I don’t know if I can think of a company more deserving than Apple to receive that sort of attention. Peddlers of soma devices for petulant leftists for decades.
